Jalen; "Four of the Five gentlemen are confirmed for tonight."

Submitted by dinsdale613 on

Jalen Rose spoke to Mike and Mike on the radio this morning and said that 4 of the 5 members of the Fab 5 will be in attendance so far.  Webber is the only wild card.  Jalen pointed out that Webber lives in Atlanta and works for CBS sports so it would be very easy for him to be there.

Mike Greenberg also asked Jalen if Webber doesn't want to come because he doesn't want to talk about his Michigan career.  Jalen said that should not be the case because Webber is a member of the media now and also because his life has not really been adversely affected by it.  He is very succcesful and has nothing to lose at this point according to Jalen

I'd much rather have Glen Rice and Terry Mills there for their good luck than the Fab Five. Rumeal Robinson teaching the kids Free Throw pointers in the shoot around.

It's not that he's in prison, it's what he's there for and what he did to his own mother.  Unforgiveable.

But Glen Rice, hells yes. He should totally get his sweet-shootin', Sarah Palin-banging, epic tourney MVP self over to the game.

Thanks to Mgoblog for perpetuating this initiative into my head. I had a dream last night that I facilitated the reunion by hanging out w/ Webber the day of the game. We were supposed to meet the other 4 at Blimpie Burger (maybe they opened an ATL location??), but their delayed schedule led to the reunion at the court.

Props to Jalen for caring. That dude is a Wolverine through and through. For Jalen, Michigan is a family. If you don't smile when you see Jalen, Juwan, Jimmy, and Ray together, then there is something wrong with you. Hopefully Webber shows too. You can tell those other 4 really want to be reunited. J-Rose is the man.

Whether you're for or against a Fab Five reunion, let me just say: if I'm a kid on the current team and I hear there's a chance that one of the greatest Michigan basketball teams of all time will be there congratulating us when we win... well, I'm gonna be pretty damn excited, controversy or no.

Are you trying to say Webber is not a gentleman? Blasphemy! He is a gentleman and a scholar..

..and kinda seems like an egotistical jerk. But he's a grown man and makes his own decisions. If he doesn't want to support his teams( fab 5 and the current team) on the biggest stage they've been on since he was at Michigan, then so be it. We still have the other 4 who will support them and the school forever, along with millions of other loyal fans, alumni, etc. Go Blue. Beat Louisville.

He doesn't have to say a word to anyone...just enjoy the game with your friends, congratulate the team after the game and get in your car and drive home.

You're CHRIS WEBBER. You can get in and out of an arena without talking to media. Hell you ARE media!

It doesn't matter whether or not he goes. And it doesn't matter what you or I or anyone else thinks about the issue.

I do believe that Webber is kind of in a no win situation. He upsets some by being there, and others by not. He himself has acknowledged this is not his day, but the current team's day in the sun.

The best option, in my mind, would be for him to come, sit with his friends, enjoy the game, cheer on the team, and answer every single question with "Today is all about Michigan's victory . . . not about me. Comments on myself can wait until another time. Let's all just enjoy their great win."

When Rumeal Robinson would be mentioned in a better light than C-Webb. You guys can be complete hypocrites and unreasonable at times. Rumeal is a complete dirtbag of a human being and should be disassociated with Michigan forever for what he did to his mother alone. Not to mention his other transgressions...

I am not sure that it will be much more than a distraction.  They seem to be doing quite well without needing any special appearances around and then of course the comparisons if the worst happens.

Personally, I'm looking forward to the sanctimonious crap Jim Nantz will spew the moment they show the four or five of them on TV. Still boggles the mind that CBS gives their worst CBB play by play guy the final four.

Separate question:  Will Coach Fisher be there?  I know he's no longer associated with Michigan (he's the Head Coach at San Dieg State) but it would be cool if the whole gang was there!

I find it impressive that 20 years later Jalen is STILL the leader of this group.  He's running the point on media exposure, travel schedules and tickets for all five guys.  Leader and Best

Terry Mills is quietly getting as many 1989 guys as he can to get to the game. I don't see him on TV begging for Sean Higgins to show up, or publicly lobbying for Demetrius Calip's attendance. And those guys all have rings!

The Fab Five needs to realize this isn't all about them. This isn't their moment. This isn't their spotlight. Jalen has had a consistent problem coming to terms with that over the last decade. When you don't have rings to cling to, when the only banners you put up can't hang anymore because of one of your own, I guess the next best thing is clamoring for attention and waxing poetic about your "legacy" and "impact on culture."

There are 12 guys on this team trying to win a championship tonight. A coach who has waited his whole lifetime for this moment. A program that is finally free of the shit the Ed Martin scandal brought on this program. And we're worried about if Chris Webber is going to show up?

Why do we need this distraction?

Well put. I find this whole PR stunt to be in incredibly poor taste, and have lost quite a bit of respect for Mr. Rose because of it-- and am quite disappointed in many of our fans, as well, for taking the bait. After M beat UF, a friend texted me right away, wondering if C Webb would show up at the Final Four. Honestly, i wanted to punch him. How freaking... IRRELEVANT. /rant

Jalen, I appreciate you. But stop going on radio shows and doing podcasts telling everyone you're trying to get everyone together. Do that in private, and if it works out, good for you.

Who cares if Webber goes or not, and this whole Fab5 is getting old now days, in 10yrs they gona be talking about Trey Burkes team and their crazy journey to the final game not Fab5....so if they show up good for them, will put the kiss cam on them and see if they will kiss.. Yes those guys made a difference but come on this is getting redicoulous talking about them when the current team has some crazy talent

Serious question here guys, help me understand.  Is there any particular reason why you choose to celebrate a team who didn't win it all and was involved in some pay to play type stuff over a team that actually won it all?

I am not knocking or criticizing.  I just think it is odd that it happens to be this way.

For one it wasn't the whole team that committed the violation, just webber. The fab five changed the college game forever. There's a lot of people still on the fence about this. Im all for them showing up tonight and any answers to any questions should be about tonight's team.

I am conflicted about this issue, if it really is one. I loved the Fab Five when they were at Michigan. But in the aftermath of their careers here the tarnish wore off a bit. It would be nice to see all 5 of them there but more important is to see some of the players from the "lean" years early in Beilein's tenure or even those that played under Tommy Amaker. Those are the guys who were most affected by the actions of at least some of the Fab Five.

Even better what about the guys from the 1989 championship team? Those guys won the only NC we have. They've been there when they weren't expected to be, much like UM this season. We were written off as being the biggest upset prediction for the 1st round and the 2nd round. After that we were supposed to lose every round as the other team was supposed to be the better team. I'd rather see Glen Rice, Rumeal Robinson, Terry Mills, etc than the Fab Five who played in a game they were expected to but with all that talent just couldn't win it all.

Just one fan's opinion.

I really don't think Jalen is doing this as a publicity stunt, and definitely not with the intent to shift focus away from the current squad.

Jalen's going public and putting pressure on Chris to show up.  If having an outpouring of support from the fans and alumni, a visible plea from the other four members of the Fab Five, and once-in-a-generation circumstances of his alma mater being in the championship game aren't all enough to get Chris to attend a game...then nothing is.  and then we, Jalen, and everybody else would know.

I'll have some degree of closure as to the status of Chris Webber whether he shows or not.

Chris Webber almost single-handedly ruined our program. It took how many years to get to this point? Why the worship? And why is it okay for our fans to love him but look down on OSU for welcoming Tressel back to campus? I hope he stays home and stays quiet. This isn't about him.

a seasoned coach who knew exactly what he was doing by covering up all his dirt. He was a grown man who had everyone tricked.

Chris was a 19/20 year old kid!!! Who fucked up and made some poor choices. Unless you walk on water you shouldn't judge either of them however it's been enough time for everyone to move on.

It's not like OSU who waited all of what not even 2 years
