Jalen : C-Webb should apologize to U-M
Another twist in the soap opera.

Set things right.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
Obviously Jalen is all for that. It's Webber who doesn't wanna talk to anyone.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:19 PM ^
At this point, Jalen is the problem because he refuses to shut the hell up. I'm far more irritated with him than Webber.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:43 PM ^
You do realize that Jalen works for ESPN, right? It's literally his job to talk about sports.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:20 PM ^
What does that have to do with him bringing up the Fab Five repeatedly?
September 17th, 2014 at 2:44 PM ^
The more Jalen talks about what C-Webb should or shouldn't do, the more obvious it becomes that Jalen is looking out for his own reputation and doesn't really care about C-Webb and Michigan making up.
I love both of these guys more than I should. Move on Jalen. Your career is really starting to take off and shouldn't be defined by C-Webb's actions.
September 17th, 2014 at 6:00 PM ^
I have to agree with the Spicyweiner
MGoBlog has become a strange place.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:44 PM ^
The interviewer's questions are in bold, Jalen Rose's answers are not. Which means that this question:
"How do you feel about the new Fab Five documentary Chris Webber is going to do?"
was initiated by HoopsHype, not by Jalen. He answered this question; he didn't ask it.
September 17th, 2014 at 3:52 PM ^
"The Fab Five was a great time in my life. I love Chris and can't wait to see it."
September 17th, 2014 at 3:59 PM ^
"So about his project coming, best of love and can't wait to see what happens."
September 17th, 2014 at 4:02 PM ^
That's what's infuriating sometimes about Jalen. He's the most media plugged-in member of the Fab 5, and yet he has a bizarre lack of media-savvy. Random guys on messageboards can figure out how to diplomatically answer questions better than he can. He is the Joe Biden of Michigan athletics.
September 17th, 2014 at 5:23 PM ^
give canned, run of the mill answers. Now we hate it when they give their honest opinions.
September 17th, 2014 at 7:20 PM ^
...it's embarrassing at times, because Michigan has always been able to pride itself on having an intellegent, level-headed, passionate fan base. And in many ways we still do...but we're moving far closer to Penn State, who've ALWAYS been the whiniest fan base in the conference.
MSU has had the little brother syndrome "well, howcome we don't get...blah blah blah"
OSU has always had the embarassing nut jobs (no pun intended) that embarrass the rest of their fans because they're overboard and do shit that make everyone look bad. Remember when the Columbus news station went undercover to Michigan/OSU in Ann Arbor as OSU fans and then did the same in Columbus as Michigan fans? Then reported how awful the OSU fans were? That was OSU in a nutshell (again, no pun intended)
Then PSU...the whiniest of the winers. Every call, every decision, everything on earth was against them. They forever complained about EVERYTHING. In season or out of season.
Michigan we were the wine and cheese crowd, but we also were some of the nicest, classiest, level headed fans in the nation. They used to run poles and it was always Michigan and Texas. I remember someone did a big story when we played in the Rose Bowl and each fanbase gave glowing reviews of the other.
I just hope we haven't lost that...because as we know, part of being a Michigan fan is always finding a way to be the best in everything. We want the best fans, we want the cover of the video game, we want the best stadium, helmet, fight song, we want our records, we want the most wins. That's just who we are. Arrogant or not. It's us. Stuck in the past or not...it's us. There's a reason "THIS IS MICHIGAN" sent a chill down every Michigan fans spine. Because we cherish and live in our past...probably way too much. We're a muesum, but we don't care...it doesn't mean we don't want to win now.
Anyway, winning will help, but people have started to bitch, moan and whine about EVERYTHING. Hoke, Brandon, Jalen, student attendance, tickets, jerseys, patches, slogans, sponsors, headsets, clapping, schedules...EVERYTHING. Makes you wonder if winning would fix it all.
September 17th, 2014 at 9:14 PM ^
Yeah, not sure why Jalen would give the two boilerplate answers given from the Clays considering, ya know, he doesn't have those sentiments. It's the biggest scandal in Michigan history and one of the biggest all-time in college sports. You think he should just be indifferent about it?
September 17th, 2014 at 4:04 PM ^
...he's not the one bringing it up, he's asked.
Not everyone says "no comment" just to be politically correct or appease others.
I don't get it...we get pissed at Brady Hoke because he's not open and honest when asked questions. We get pissed at Jalen Rose when he is.
Make up your minds.
September 17th, 2014 at 4:25 PM ^
The questions aren't the same. If someone asks you "hey, how was your lunch, what did you have?" and you go no comment, you're a jerk. If someone goes "hey, how is your wife in bed?" and you answer, you're a jerk.
Brady Hoke not answering an injury question is not the same as publicly calling someone out.
September 17th, 2014 at 7:02 PM ^
If someone goes "hey, how is your wife in bed?" Aren't they the jerk?
September 17th, 2014 at 9:17 PM ^
"hey, how is your wife in bed?"
What? That's a very private affair that intrudes on someone's privacy. The biggest scandal in Michigan sports, in which said "wife" is writing a book and making a documentary about being in bed with you(!!!) is decidedly not private.
September 17th, 2014 at 10:51 PM ^
Preeeetttty gooood.
September 17th, 2014 at 5:09 PM ^
He agreed to the interview. Generally the topic is laid out and approved prior to an actual interview, boundaries are set, etc... Rose obviously felt the need to speak up on this. I don't care either way, really. As RR would say, it's in the past.
September 17th, 2014 at 7:09 PM ^
...but you can't expect everyone to say "it's in the past." It's not a bad thing to have an opinion.
Fans give their opinions every damn day, this blog wouldn't exist without a need to share opinions.
But Jalen Rose gives his opinion and people get pissed off about it. It's stupid. He's entitled to his opinion.
Now people can certainly disagree with his opinion or be upset with his opinion, but that's not what they're mad over...they're made that he has and opinion and shared it when asked about it. See how backwards that is?
It's not what he said, it's that he said something. Which on a website called MGoBlog is kind of weird for someone to get upset at someone else for having an opinion about something.
If the reaction was "I wholeheartedly disagree with Jalen," that would be one thing...but the reaction is "Jalen needs to shut up and stop answering questions."
At the end of the day, he was asked...he gets paid to share his opinion for a living...he's a grown man who's certainly entitled to an opinion that isn't bigoted, discriminatory, racist, offensive, hurtful, etc.
September 18th, 2014 at 11:07 AM ^
Webb is the last link in this sordid chain and his coming correct will bury it - Jinx wants the Michigan connection to the Fab Five to be cleansed so that they can talk about the era without the hangover and celebrate the on-court success without the drama. Need the short term drama to eradicate the long term drama.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:42 PM ^
Have to agree with everything Jalen said in that article.
A book and a documentary? Is he really doing this to clear his name? Or try to make a boatload of money? I suppose if the others were involved he'd have to give them a cut.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:44 PM ^
I agree with everything Jalen said too. I just wish he'd have said it directly to C-Webb, privately, and not through a Detroit News reporter.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:57 PM ^
actually it was a hoopshype.com reporter which is better worse not the same as a detroit news reporter.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:02 PM ^
a direct question. I thought we liked when people actually answered questions in interviews. No?
September 17th, 2014 at 3:39 PM ^
If the "we" you're referring to is the consensus at MGoBlog, then "we" like absolutely nothing.
September 17th, 2014 at 5:43 PM ^
My mistake.
September 17th, 2014 at 5:57 PM ^
Another mistake: people aren't betting on a Fab Five banner being raised. They are most certainly betting on Michigan games, and injury info is money.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:55 PM ^
I think he's tried to tell him privately. Jalen has said on his podcasts that they've been in the same places at the same time before but they don't speak to each other. They were all in Atlanta for the Final Four but Chris chose to sit in a suite rather than with the rest of the guys. I dont really see what good it does to say it to the paper either, if/when Chris wants to talk to Jalen, he will.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:06 PM ^
No offense, but when you say they've been in the same places (plural) and not spoken to each other, that seems a lot different than being at a huge stadium with a circus atmosphere and not being able to talk to your friend. Happens to me pretty much everytime I go to a sporting event where people are scattered about.
Now, if they actually have been in, say, a restaurant or someone's house or something and not spoken, that's more telling that there may be a true rift between them. But I'm not sure that's the case.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:13 PM ^
Webber could have sat with the other 4 guys if he wanted. He chose not to sit with them.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:37 PM ^
Yeah, they publicly invited him to sit with them. I'm sure he knew where they were.
September 17th, 2014 at 4:22 PM ^
The other posters that replied made my point more clearly than I could.
Both Jalen and Chris work for major television companies that cover the NBA regular season, All Star weekend, playoffs and finals. They cross paths, it's inevitable and Jalen has said so on the Grantland podcasts. Chris has plently of opportunities to talk to him, he just chooses not to. The proverbial ball is in Chris' court.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:19 PM ^
outside of being part of the fab five.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:51 PM ^
here we go again
September 17th, 2014 at 12:55 PM ^
He's not going to, and he likely never will, but we will continue to hear about this from Jalen every 6-8 months. I love ya Jalen and appreciate what you have done/did for the University but that ship called, "doing-the-right-thing" has sailed a long time ago for Mr. Webber.
September 17th, 2014 at 2:49 PM ^
I don't know how your browser is formatted, but is it really so difficult for some of the readership to distinguish Jalen's responses from the reporter's questions? Jalen didn't bring it up. Hoopshype did.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:59 PM ^
This shit happened 20 years ago. Half their lifetimes. A generation of Michigan basketball has come and gone.
Time for Jalen to move the hell on instead of bringing it up every two weeks, rehashing this same tired argument and soap opera. Picking at an old scab over and over.
Webber took money. Life goes on.
September 17th, 2014 at 9:22 PM ^
There's another Jalen thread. Time to move the hell on instead of bitching about it every few posts, rehashing the same tired complaints.
September 17th, 2014 at 12:59 PM ^
Let it die guys, or just hug it out like on Starsky and Hutch.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:01 PM ^
C-Webb refusing to apologize is pretty much keeping Jalen blacklisted at Michigan. That would piss me off too.
September 17th, 2014 at 11:05 PM ^
Man they some punk bitches
September 17th, 2014 at 1:02 PM ^
Who the shit cares anymore?
Maybe if this was 2011 and the Fab Five film came out and the program wasn't quite yet on the level it's at now. That 2010-11 started the ascension, but we didn't know they'd rise so quickly.
We're at a point where, unlike Football, we don't have to look back to past players/games anymore to feel good.
We can look at the current program's coaching staff and players and love every bit of the way things are right now.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:24 PM ^
I would say a lot of people who watched the fab five. Jalen will always be a part of, and asked questions about, the fab five. Its his past and he obviousely wants to try to make things as right as possible. Its not stealing any thunder away from the current team.
September 17th, 2014 at 9:24 PM ^
Yeah really. Wolverine Devotee, in 20 years when someone brings up Denard, are you gonna say, "Who the fuck cares about that guy? We have new players who are good."
September 17th, 2014 at 11:07 PM ^
Short memory
September 18th, 2014 at 12:10 AM ^
Yeah, that's not really my point so...
Denard isn't going to continually whine in the media about wanting to be honored, having his number retired and all that other stuff. I've seen no other athlete do anything like this when it's been over two decades since they last played for their team.
I've criticized Jalen on here before. I admire the Fab Five--I have a photo of them in my room! I'm not disrespecting them or what they were as a team.
I'm just tired of hearing about them, and I'm tired of hearing from Jalen every 6 months.
I'm with the Spicyweiner as well.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:31 PM ^
I'm not as emotionally worked up by this story as I was a few years ago. The return of the program to prominence has helped the healing, as 1993 is no longer our last Final Four. Still, I'd like to see them patch things up.
September 17th, 2014 at 1:32 PM ^
And I am only 29, but you can imagine how watching the FabFive was so special to us as our fanhood was developing. It really was a special time. Personally, I care because I would like to see the self imposed sanctions lifted and see the team recognized (yes I know its only banners) for their dominance during that era.
We have things to feel good about now, yes, which is great! But, something that seperates Michigan from other institutions, when it comes to sports, is the great tradition and legendary players of the past.
Thats why I care.
Aaaaand, we can retire Burke's # annnnnytime!
