Not to split hairs but it’s actually "presumed innocent until proven guilty"

A conviction (or acquittal) means absolutely nothing about whether or not you actually committed a crime. Just ask OJ Simpson... or Ryan Braun

Here are a couple other hoops recruiting notes (I posted these late in a previous thread, so many probably didn't see them):

Esa Ahmad, who had garnered some Michigan interest and was thought likely to pick Ohio State, committed to West Virginia.

Eric Davis, who at one time held a Michigan offer but probably doesn't now, will announce his choice next Tuesday. He took official visits to just UNLV and Texas, so they would seem to have the best shot, although coaches from Michigan State, UNLV, and Texas were all at an open gym at his high school yesterday, so the Spartans apparently aren't out of it.

The only 2015 prospect that Michigan still seems interested in is Perry Dozier. LaVall Jordan had an in-home with him yesterday, and it went well:

I've heard nothing linking Michigan to Swanigan recently. This report mentions the following schools as having visited him this month or with plans to do so: California, Iowa, Kentucky, MSU, Missouri, and Pitt. If he were still a target, why no visit from a Michigan coach?

EDIT: Here's another report of a player Michigan has visited. Unless something like this comes out regarding Swanigan, it's not happening.

Illinois is hurting with yet another highly rated recruit spurning Champaign. Sounds like Groce is kind of crabby about this.

OSU is also hurting . . . they missed out on the top three recruits in Ohio. Esa Ahmad just turned them down and committed to WVa and Huggins.Carlton Bragg left OSU out of his top 5, and Luke Kennard committed to Duke.

It is very hard to turn a program around. We are extremely fortunate that Michigan is doing such a great job of recruiting nationally, with three 5-star recruits coming for visits. I don't know the likelihood of commitments, but merely having Dozier, Leaf, and Battle on campus is great. If Beilein starts to sign goes of that caliber, watch out. I think we will then regularly be entering the recruiting and playing level common at Kansas, Kentucky, Duke, and Louisville.

Battle has been on campus before, but I haven't heard anything about another visit. Dozier and Leaf are both expected to make official visits to Michigan. You may be thinking of the in-home visits that Michigan coaches will be making to visit them.

Seth Towns, by the way, is another key Michigan target getting a visit from a Michigan coach today.

You are correct . . . in home visits scheduled. I conflated the fact that Dozier still needs to make an official visit in order to receive an official offer.

One thing is true, regardless. Michigan appears to truly be in the hunt for some very gifted players. IIRC, these are all top 25 type players, and we haven't been in the running for so many, although we did end up with Mitch for a couple years (grumble, grumble, NCAA, stupid rules.)

In recruiting. They're bringing in a great 2014 class with the #18, #26 and #79 players (a 5 star and two 4 stars) and have already locked up two top 50 and one borderline top 100 player (all 4 stars) in the 2015 class. Matta is outrecruiting Beilein despite Michigan's superior player development and performance in the past few years. I'm not sure how he does it. It's a mystery. But Beilein's 2014 class will probably outperform its ranking and he'll probably still reel in an elite player or two in 2015 and/or 2016. And the transfer Robinson should be another diamond in the rough. That's more than he needs for another Final Four run.

"Matta is outrecruiting Beilein despite Michigan's superior player development and performance in the past few years."

Umm, they are saying the same thing in EL about our football program.

OSU has not had anywhere near the 2 year run we have had but the past 6-8 has been excellent as a whole.  Not like they are coming out of nowhere.  I've been surprised how good OSU basketball has become - 20 years ago it was a joke.

p.s. I upvoted you for listing all the recruits and agree with you - they are not hurting one bit.  Illinois on the other hand, they seemed to be turning the corner in the last 1/3rd of the year and they could have really used this recruit, it was down to them and Villanova as the final 2.

This is all about the Big East debacle a couple years back...at least that brought things to a head.

Temple got back in the Big East and then the 'Nova administration and Jay Wright freaked out. They realized, imho, that Dunphy and Temple would be able to compete for recruits on a more level conference playing field. The 'Nova response was to re-break up the Big East with the "Catholic Seven" schools. This earned them the eternal enmity of North Philly (not that Villanova was popular in the first place in North Philly).

Certainly no cameraderie these days Temple/'Nova...thus Brunson's FU in signing with them.

First thought, basketball recruiting is weird

Second thought, poor John Groce, seems to be doing an ok job at Illinois, but Brunson may have been a good kid to get to really help him take the next step there.
