What does this mean? Who will replace him? Will we see a Ross-Bolden-Morgan LB lineup?

Fuck.

ANN ARBOR, Mich.University of Michigan football senior/junior linebacker Jake RyanWestlake, Ohio/St. Ignatius) is out indefinitely with a torn anterior cruciate ligament suffered in Tuesday's practice, the team announced today (Wednesday, March 20).

"You always hate when anyone gets injured and unfortunately we've dealt with our share of injuries in the last 12 months," said Michigan coach Brady Hoke."We will support Jake to make sure he has everything he needs to get through this.I know he will attack his rehabilitation just like he does everything else and will be back when he's ready."

Ryan led the Wolverines in 2012 with 88 tackles, 56 solo, 16 stops for loss, 4.5 sacks and four forced fumbles.

He earned All-Big Ten second team honors by the media and was the Roger Zatkoff Award recipient as U-M's top linebacker.Dating back to 2011, Ryan had tallied a tackle-for-loss in 17 of his last 19 games.

After hearing this F*ing news I jumped off my kitchen counter with a noose around my neck.  Lucky for me my counter is only 3 feet high  and I had 6 foot of rope but I meant well.  I decided to come here to vent instead of trying again.  JMFR you will be missed this year!  I'm still hoping to play Ohio in back to back weeks at seasons end!

While trying to navigate away from this horrible news, I accidently bookmarked it. Not the thing I want to be able to find easily. I'm not past the denial stage yet!

Wow...So many "F-Bombs" again and again on this site.

I won't allow my 12 year old to read about his favorite team on this site because of the lack of common maturity when posting.

Dropping the "F-Bomb" every other post just shows a lack of maturity and credibility.

When are the administrators going to start cracking down on the language?

It just lowers this blog site's reputation and credibility.

Its not like the Rich Rod days when we had no depth, two years ago people were crying to have Cam Gordon see the field, hes a senior, we have depth, lets see what Gordon can do and just chill, the program is in good hands...

First off, before I start venting, I hope Jake has a speedy recovery, and we can see him on the field whenever he is ready. His presence on the field is going to be sorely, sorely missed.

Michigan must be second to Purdue in terms of bad injuries to key players. Countess tears his ACL, Denard has a bad nerve injury, Fitz breaks his leg, now Jake MF Ryan tears his ACL.

I know we have solid depth at linebacker, and Ross/Bolden/Morgan will be great. But this is like a swift kick to the balls, and then when you're lying on the ground crying in pain, you get kicked in the balls again just for the hell of it. Torn ACL's are bad no matter who they happen to on our team, but in terms of having to replace production, this could not be any worse on the defensive side of the ball. Its probably the equivalent of losing Gardner, Gallon or Lewan on offense for next year (for the love of all that is holy, knock on wood).

At any rate, Cam Gordon is going to have to step the fuck up, and Mike McCray can probably kiss a redshirt goodbye. His level of talent might have gotten him playing time anyway, but now he's going to be expected to contribute from Day 1 instead of hoping for mop-up duty. Not the kind of pressure I want on a true freshman. If only he could have been an early enrollee. We've got a LOT of tackles, sacks and TFL that we've got to replace right now. If there's any silver lining, at least it happened now instead of Fall camp.

Given the situation, I feel closing with the following is only appropriate: FUCCCCCCCKKKKKKK!!!!

Extremely unfortunate, yes, but we have a lot of good depth at his position and if he doesn't return in 2013 it just means we'll have him for another year. Also, maybe he can make a freakish Adrian Peterson-like recovery, I wouldn't count on it though.

If this is not an early April fool's joke, then the AIRBG is doing some sidework in the off season. AIRBG you sir, are an asshole. Godspeed Jake.

Bad news...but I think he could return for the big ten season, right?  6 months from now is late september. i don't think his season is gone...

Theoretically, he could return by the start of the conference schedule. But that's an absolute best-case scenario. I don't know much about ACL tears, but I'm guessing a six month recovery time would mean it would have to only be a partial tear and no other damage to the ligaments around it. And he'd need to absolutely bust his ass off in re-hab. Not that I'm worried about him not doing that.

It's certainly possible that he could be back by the conference opener. But if I were you, I'd brace for the possibility that Jake won't see the field until maybe bowl workouts next winter. And at that point, they might just not want to risk anything, so they'll tell him to sit out until winter workouts. Very real chance Jake won't play again until App State 2014.

Hopefully we won't notice...countess' absence showed up late in season. The packers lost half an O line and won the Super Bowl. This is a biatch, don't get me wrong but last time I checked this was a team, team, team game.

Shift Bolden to Sam? Or move either Beyer or Clark to Sam? Gordon will start but there needs to be rotation. can't expect McCray to step in right? Thoughts? We do have good depth here at least.

i'm not sure these press releases allow one to understand the exact nature of the injury, prognosis for recovery or time table for recovery. obviously, this is all protected, confidential information.

worst case scenario he is out for the entire year,- there is a lot of linebacker depth and a lot of options. cam gordon has been touted recently and might be ryan's replacement.

if devin gardner has a serious injury, there may be no viable options and the prospects for a winning season would be dubious.

This is atrocious news. I had him pegged as being an absolute animal this year. I feel so bad for him.

Not worth a post of its own on the MGoBoard because it's unsubstantiated speculation but...

Per the 11w comment section, there's this from former OSU player Reid Fragel:

Reid Fragel tweeted "Karma at its finest" about 45 minutes ago. I worry that was in regards to Ryan, I hope not.  He's one of Michigan's best defenders-so when Michigan and OSU play, Michigan will be light one of its best players, therefore the Game will be a little less awesome=Everyone loses.

That could be about anything but what makes things a bit darker is this follow-up from an MSU fan

if this is in regards to what I think it is, then yes, karma is an AHole

The same MSU fan also tweets:

Jake Ryan torn ACL....no more flow, a tweet that is favorited by Fragel.

Now, certainly the MSU tweeter is not representative of all Spartan fans and I'd like to think that Fragel isn't representative of all his former teammates, but... yeah.
