Jake Ryan records 6 tackles, 1 sack, 2 TFL tonight

Thread title says it all. Very solid performance by the young man. He was second on the team with his 6 tackles. The leader had 8. Hopefully a sign of things to come for him. And before you ask, yes, Jake Ryan deserves his own thread.

I'd have to say he is likely smarter and makes better decisions based entirely upon his decion on which college to attend.

Yeah he was a member of the 2010 team, but all 4 of his playing years were under Hoke. Him, Devin, and Hagerup were the last of the Rich Rod players to actually play (or practice under Rich Rod). Morgan I believe is the only Rodriguez recruit still around.

The moment GB drafted JMFR I thought that it was a great pick up for them. They needed a player like him to fill the LB void they have and he's off to a great start. Nice seeing our boys excel at the next level.

He's pretty much in a struggle to be the first guy off the bench. Sam Barrington has one ILB pretty locked down. And the Packers seem like they're going to keep Mathews inside on early downs (could change but it transformed their D last year).

There are about 4 guys competing to be the main backups. Ryan seemed to get the most time, so they were taking a long look.

This is correct unless JMFR shows that he can be a star. They would rather keep Matthews on the outside but are reportedly still splitting his time between inside and outside this year because they don't have a good enough 2nd inside linebacker to justify not playing Matthews there after how well he played last year.

Unless Devin Gardner latches on somewhere else, Jake Ryan might be the only guy on that list w/a shot at sticking long-term in the NFL. (Did Hagerup ever latch on w/a team in training camp via free agency?)  Furman was drafted late by the Broncos -- he might have a shot to make the roster if he can show his worth on special teams. Marvin Robinson got a look w/the Cowboys in training camp last year, but I'm not sure what happened to him.

Even if you drop the standard from "Got a cup of coffee in the NFL" to "Was a solid starter or contributor at UM", that class looks bad in hindsight: Gardner, poor guy (what might've been?); Ryan; Jibreel Black, Courtney Avery, and Drew Dileo were also decent contributors at various points; Hagerup was good when he had his head on straight ... Stephen Hopkins, maybe. And that's pretty much it. Seven guys, if you're generous, out of 27.

Thank God we're putting that era of UM football behind us. HARBAUGH!

Once he'd cleared the waiver wire, Pittsburgh put Devin on their IR list (injury "undisclosed").  They gave him enough time in the game that they were clearly looking at him, and whether the drops were related to already being injured, or he injured himself or aggravated something in the earlier passes (which were strongly defended and/or not catchable), they must have seen enough in practice to hold on to him for the future.

Hope he grows his hair long again so that Green Bay could look like it has a pair of Thors in its linebacking corps.

But in all seriousness, this is awesome. All he did here at Michigan was make plays. Hope he carves out s long, successful NFL career.

but he didn't seem to get much from the announcers when he made a good play (a few) or when he looked lost and made an obviously bad move. No matter the context they seemed to only talk about the Pats and how their guys messed up or beat the defense. Still, it was cool to see!
