Former Michigan linebacker Jake Ryan, a two-time captain, has earned the Pat Tillman Award at the East-West Shrine Game.

The Pat Tillman Award is presented to the player who best exemplifies intelligence, sportsmanship and service.

According to Buccaneers.com:

"Ryan led the East team in tackles with five and recorded one of his team’s four sacks. An inside linebacker, Ryan took smart angles to the ball carrier, proved to be a great tackler and was efficient in pass coverage. "

JMFR could really perform well in the NFL as an OLB in the proper 3-4 system where his versatility is valued and deployed correctly.

I don't believe it's unreasonable at all to think that he could wind up a successful NFL OLB for many years. He has good instincts and is explosive to the ball (especially in the pass-rush). Some NFL caliber weight training could really help him get strong enough to fight through run blockers too.

I was lucky enough to watch Tillman run the Sun Devil defense on our way to a Rose Bowl in my freshman year. He was an incredible player and an even better person. Congrats, Jake.
