Jake Locker to Return for Senior Season

Submitted by NorthSideBlueFan on
Wow! I am pretty sure if I was predicted to be a top five pick and the top QB selected in the draft that I would have come out (especially in an uncapped year!) When you consider what happened to Sam Bradford among others, the risk seems far too great compared to the reward of staying for one more year. I know what Bo thinks, but in today's day and age what does the board think of Locker's move?

A kid is an idiot bc he wants to go back and finish his senior season? Really? How did it work out for Carson Palmer or Peyton Manning? Jake could certainly use the seasoning under Sark. I watched every UW game this year, and while Jake made great strides, he's got a ways to go. UW makes a bowl next year.

Jake Locker would fall flat on his face if he joined the NFL next season. He's over-rated like nobody's business. Tons of talent and potential, but totally not ready. He'll be exceptional with another season under Sarkisian, but he needs that extra year. The Huskies went 5-7 this season. 0-12 last year. Maybe 2-10 his first year. I know the coach sucked, but come on. Remember this was Locker's first season as a pro-style QB, too, so I'll say it again: he needs that extra year with Sark. As for the potential for injury, keep in mind that he signed a big baseball contract awhile back. It's not like he's hurtin' for money. Plus he can always invest in a fat insurance policy.

The hype and excitement aroud him is at its apex now. Not to mention (once again,) but the NFL is uncapped in 2010 and 2011 potentially will have a rookie salary cap. Rerpotedly, his Angels contract is only for $300k over six years to retain his rights, so that is nowhere near rich. Lastly, how did Drew Henson's baseball career work out? He was considered a no doubt can't miss prospect...

Yeah, I agree. His contract with the Angels was a vague, if you decide to play baseball in the next 6 years, we have your rights. Nothing more than that. I definitely agree that he needs more time to become a better NFL prospect. If he was to declare for the NFL draft after this year, he'd be a bottom round pick at the highest, and probably better off playing the the minors for baseball.

I think he would of without question been the #1 QB after all of the combine and testing, and very rarely is there a draft where there isnt a QB taken in the top 5. So really he has no where to go but down in my opinion. However I like the decision simply because it shows there are some players out there that play the game for the game and because they love it, not just the money. He loves being at the University of Washington apparently so why leave a year early? I would like to see more of this around the NCAA especially Michigan

Let me see, stick around for another year under the tutelage of a guy who has helped put 4 (5 if you count Booty) QBs into the NFL in the past decade. Considering 3 of those guys are starting and a 4th would be if Kurt Warner didn't have Jesus on his side, where's the problem with this decision?

When did Locker become such a highly rated NFL prospect? I heard McShay had him in his top 5, but I haven't the slightest idea why. Not a knock on Locker (I think he is incredibly talented) but he is more of a dual threat QB and hasn't really done much of anything numbers wise at UW compared to the other QB's out there (though in fairness he has played on terrible teams) to justify such a high ranking. Why would the NFL be drooling all over him at this point?

I guess my question is, Why? He's never been a terribly accurate passer and doesn't seem to have the sound mechanics necessary for the next level just yet. Again, he has all the talent in the world, I just don't get why he would be ranked ahead of much more successful/polished college QB's. The kid has also had a ton of pretty serious injuries throughout his career that I would think might scare teams off if they plan on investing that kind of money in him.
