Jake Butt Mentoring Teammates and Local Youth

So happy that he is still here. Great person off the field, and great teammate on the field.

His work with current teammates: "He said McKeon is going to be "thrown into the fire of these four-hour practices" and is helping the early enrollee from the Class of 2016 with route running and his overall game.

"When they install all this stuff for you as a freshman it becomes 'mush brain,' as we call it," said Butt. "So I'm trying to help him turn that 'mush' into something valuable he can use."

He is also mentoring Alec, who is a big fan, but also and unfortunately, has a brain tumor.

"Then, Andrew David, our kicker, was visiting Mott (Children's Hospital) and met Alec. He asked me to sign a hat for him. Then I saw him at 'Signing of the Stars,' and that was special, special for me. The kid is 12 years old, a special kid, and I can't imagine going through what he's going through with a smile on his face."

Alec, whose father is deceased, has a brain tumor."

Class A guy. He'll be a good ambassador for the NFL. Also, my initial imagining of Butt's mentoring to his teammates: "what you want to do is be bigger, faster, and stronger than anyone else. Then all you have to do is get open on every play and never drop a pass, and you have a chance of amounting to something here." Will miss this guy. Best tight end we've had in a while. Koger had potential but was underused IMO.

Jake seems like such a good guy.  He's a great leader for this team.

Also, that poor kid Alec-- he lost his father and now is dealing with a brain tumor?..Wow.  I'm glad Jake can help bring some joy into his life.
