Jail for Rucker

Submitted by dahblue on

Looks like Rucker is headed to jail:

While a DUI, on its own, is (unless injury results) not the worst thing in the world.  Drinking and driving drunk while on probation is a big deal.  Dummy.  Pretty wild that MSU "absolutely" expects him back on the team.  Halfway House disguised as football team.

...this is just a sad commentary about a young man who clearly has some serious issues playing out and a weak willed coach/institution who will make whatever ethical and moral sacrifices necessary to win football games.

Honestly, Rucker needs more than jail and an enabling coach/institution are giving him. He's going to have a life after his 4 years at Sparty and I don't see how any of their approach here is helping the young man.

Remember that Korie Lucious (only 19 y/o, by the way) was allowed to plead a DUI down to a traffic ticket.  Don't be shocked if the law, such as it is in Spartyland, takes it easy on Rucker.

You would think a guy on probation for assault would know enough to at least not drink and drive, but then again you probably figure he would know enough not to beat up engineers for no apparent reason.

Just a sad commentary on State's football team, but ah well.  I'll care more in the offseason, but right now bring on Iowa.

Offseason indeed...Which leads me to ask, should there not be a "Spartan Cup"?  It seems that so much of their criminal activity takes place in-season.  The Fulmer Cup, on the other hand, "rewards" criminal behavior in the off-season.

Why limit the Cup to off-season acts?  Is an October criminal not just as much a criminal as a June criminal?

However, I really do think their fan mindset IS that way because so little has been done from a discipline standpoint lately.  Their glasses are becoming so rose-colored, their starting to reason and justify away the need for punishment.  The chronic second chance mentality has perverted their sense of reality.

I really can't believe it's reached as deep into the program as it has.  Even Izzo, who I really respect, surprised me by not saying anything about the "sexual assault" accusations against his guys.  I get the whole "Duke" thing, but I figured him for the type of guy who would at least say "I'm suspending our guys b/c by their own admission they put themselves in a bad situation.  Charges or no charges, that's not our image or what we're about."

It's very disappointing.  I want to enjoy beating them for the "team" they are, not the "delinquents" they are.

I think their problem has grown because they're not called to account for what's gone on.

I agree that Izzo slipped with the rape allegations (and maybe telling Dion Sims to "concentrate on football" rather than admitting a problem), but he runs a generally clean ship in a dirty sea.  Dantonio, however, wants only to beat Michigan.  Nothing else matters.  Nothing.

He lied about Jenrette (who went through the same juvenile offender program in FL as Demar Dorsey) when Jenrette was charged with B&E while a Spartan.  Jenrette was "taking care of personal business" (or something to that effect).  No questions from the press even though they would later write a multi-page researched investigative piece on Dorsey's action while in high school and long before committing to Michigan.

Dantonio refused to discuss bringing Winston from prison to practice.  The media never pushed the issue.

Now, one of his assistants "absolutely" expects Rucker to be back on the team.  When?  After he gets out of jail?  Will they count the games he misses while in jail to be the games for which he's suspended.

I hate to bash the local press.  I really do.  They need to finally ask the questions of Saint Dantonio.

Unfortunately, it looks like it's going towards the worst case scenario for the kid...

"East Lansing District Court records show Rucker's written waiver was processed Wednesday.

He is suspended indefinitely and isn't listed on the depth chart for the away game between the Spartans (No. 7 BCS, No. 8 AP) and Northwestern this week."
