Jaguars GM wants Henne to be 2014 QB
I absolutely do not understand the desire for people to crap on former players (whom they probably have never met) on a message board.
It satisfies the primordial need to emit threatening sounds towards much larger men from the safety of anonymity.
I'll admit I hated Henne in college, he was rude to me on more than one occasion, but I've left it in the past and have heard he's a different guy now.
If he wins the job, I hope he (and Denard) shines. I'd also like to see Mallet take over the mantle once Brady leaves.
A similar example: anybody remember Matt Hasselbeck? The Packers drafted him in 1998 and traded him to Seattle in 2001 since at the time it was clear that Favre wasn't close to *cough cough* retirement. (Holmgren was coach in Seattle at the time, but had also been coach of the Packers when Hasselbeck had been on the practice squad.)
said that the puzzling lack of a QB pick by the Texans was explained when the Pats picked a QB in the 2nd round.
Perhaps it was the same talking head who later said there were rumors that Houston was getting Mallett. Perhaps because what he said earlier started the rumors.
What occasions? What did he say or do to you?
Yeah, that's not because Tressel outcoached Carr or anything.
Explain in detail exactly how and why Chad Henne is a punk.
himself into the position of being an attractive QB, if he takes advantage of this opportunity to be the starting QB for a season. He has to know that Bortles, as the #3 overall pick, will take over by the start of the 2015 season, regardless of how well Henne performs.
This will probably be Henne's best remaining opportunity to show what he can do. I wish him the best!
With the likes of Dante Culpepper as the guy they throw out there to ultimately be hated by the fan base before the top pick comes in to play.
Henne got a second NFL contract for legit money. Can't find the details on his first deal, but best guess is he's made roughly $10 million, at least. If he plays just okay this year he'll probably make even more. For playing occasionally and not being all that great as an NFL qb (not a knock on the guy, that shit is super hard), he's doing pretty fantastic.
I would gladly take that cash even if I had to listen to the 8 Jacksonville Jaguar fans alive tell me I suck for the rest of my life.
I'm not trying to directly hate on Henne, moreso making light of a situation that will almost certainly occur. If Jacksonville continues to suck, which is really quite likely, people (fans, ownership, whomever) are going to want that top draft pick to come and try and shake it up. Archie Manning said it best, you don't draft a top guy to sit him.
signed a 2 year, $8 mil contract last year.
I'm still waiting for a Henne to Robinson TD pass- that's all I need then Bortles can take over
Henne to Denard then back to Henne for a TD
Henne is hard to get rid of...the guys down in the Jacksonville coaching staff really like him.
Drafting both Marqise Lee and Allen Robinson in the second?
Living in Jacksonville now and somewhat following the team since December, not everyone was happy with the Blake Bortles pick. From what the local media said, it was about a 50/50 split among cheers/boos at the Jags draft party when the pick was announced. Jacksonville just disposed of former first round bust Blaine Gabbert (10th overall in 2011) to San Fran, so you can understand why they are weary of this selection. The Jags have a lot of needs, not everyone is sold on this year's QB crop, but they opted to take Bortles, who some believe is a Gabbert clone. Gabbert was rushed in to action when he was drafted and it failed miserably.
It seems like when a GM takes a QB very early in the draft, that's a big risk. You're going to build your team around that guy and if he's a bust, fans are going to call for your head. They have a lot riding on the Bortles selection and they don't want to make the same mistake with Bortles that they made with Gabbert. So ideally Henne will be the starter this year to give Bortles time to adjust and learn and be more prepared to take over.
