Jacob Trouba Scored a Goal in USA vs Germany - World Juniors

On Thursday, the second day of the World Juniors, Jacob Trouba scored the 2nd goal as the US romped 8-0 over Germany, a day after Canada beat the Germans 9-3.  The tone was set when the US scored 19 seconds into the game.  Eight different players scored a goal.

The US faces a much tougher task Friday (9 AM Eastern on NHL Network, replay 8 PM EST) against Russia, who will want to do better after Slovakia surprised them by going to overtime before losing, so Russia only earned 2 pts instead of 3.

After Russia the US will face Canada on Sunday (4:30 AM Eastern on NHL Network, replay 8 PM EST) and finish the opening round with Slovakia on Monday (5 AM Eastern on NHL Network, replay 8 PM EST).

tomorrow morning. They are going to be out for blood after that poor performance against Slovakia. The fact that this game is in Russia doesn't make me feel any better. Let's hope our boys are ready.

We hate Michigan State. We don't like Penn State too. We don't care for Minnesota, Wisconsin or Notre Dame but we all hate O-S-U.

The US looked really solid against Germany. I caught most of the game and they are deep. Gibson could be the best goalie in the tourney. And with quite a few anchors on D and then some goal scorers wtch out. From what I've seen they're the team to beat. Although you could easily argue for Canada too.

Canada is by far the team to beat in this tournament. The US has a good roster, no doubt, but Canada is incredibly loaded. Probably the only place the US has an advantage over Canada is in goal - I think Subban is overrated while Gibson is arguably the top goalie prospect in the world who is eligible for this tournament (if not 1A/1B with Vasilevskiy of Russia).

I mean, seriously, let's look at the Canadian lineup - their defense has three former top-10 draft picks, an additional first rounder, and 3 second rounders. On offense, there are four former top-10 picks, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins, who would have won the Calder Trophy if he hadn't been injured and missed 20 games (52 points in 62 games). In addition to those guys, they have an additional two first rounders, 3 second, and a third. And 3 undrafted guys, two of which are projected to be top-5 picks (including Nathan MacKinnon who's anticipated to be the best rookie since the Malkin/Crosby/Ovechkin years).

The only thing I can see holding Canada back is that they play really undisciplined, as shown by the fact that they've now had 3 guys get suspended for at least a game (assuming the IIHF calls it right and suspends Lipon and Camara after their antics against Slovokia).
