Teach a Hoke how to recruit a Fisher he'll have OLs for a career
I wonder how the Michigan Poetry Team is doing this year. Will they make a good bowl game or will they be doomed to the Little Predicates Haiku Bowl?
Rivals.com has him listed as a soft verbal
I heard that they are looking at bringing a "mystery" 3* Quatrainist recruit up next weekend. True sleeper, great pad level.
He's got real potential for coupling and his iambic pentameter is very advanced for being a senior in HS
FWIW, He says that he has spoken to Hoke and OL Coach. He is not committed to Michigan, but they are still very much in it. He says all four schools are equal.
Buzz on MSU site from Mod that conducted interview is that he will still end up Blue.
We'll see. His parents did go on the trip to MSU which shows he at least took the trip seriously.
Josh Helmholdt has said that he was very close to Frey and that is the main reason he decommited in the first place. At this point I feel like he is very open but it is never a good sign that the guy decommited 3 weeks before signing day. We will see.
Jake seems to love M. But he doesn't even know who the DC will be. So why not check out contingencies in the meantime? This week, hopefully, a new coordinator will smooth things over.
...offensive (more specifically Tackle), I'm not sure how knowing the DC effects that as we already have the OC and the OL coach in place.
We do have our OC, and Sparty doesn't (I think Treadwell was OC). And If he goes to MSU, I cant wish him good luck. It makes more sense just to stay committed to UM.
I am sorry, but if he eventually commits to State I will not be able to wish him luck. Hopefully Hoke can do some damage control.
they you take this all way too seriously
As I read this I had leonard neemoy's voice saying it in my head like in Civ 4.
Negged for double post.
I understand the reason behind them but in this case he obviously was writing the post at the same time the other guy was and along comes Rule Nazi. It's an online sports blog for crissake!
Very disappointing, He is a good player at a position of need. Hope we can get him back!
Maybe DB can summon some more of that Jerry Jones he seems to have in him...?
hopefully we can get him back, great looking prospect at a position of need. hopefully we can get him on campus again and Hoke can show him the he is wanted MORE on campus now than before, we need this kid. GO BLUE JAKE!!
For saying the same thing as the guy two posts above you. Twice.
Well, I guess DB was right when he said getting the right coach was bigger than this recruiting class, way to go DB.
Countess, Posada, and Jones as soft verbals that are not counted in that total as they are currently on visits or have visits planned.
that's another guard. We seem to be guard-heavy now but lack Tackles. Luckily, our starting tackles next year might both only be sophmores.
Several decommits and signing period just around the corner. Have to becareful though don't want to be to so negative that I might be considered a closet OSU fan!
If you commit, you might be starting sooner than you think.
We can't have positive news,, everyone knows that Brandon and Hoke are the death of the program. Besides, everyone knows from that early M Go Board post that Bryant is a lock for Pittsburgh because they have Magee and Frey
that would be excellent news. Come on down CB!
the surprise would be Bryant not committing to us since he was one of the silents.
...is that recruiting is 70% of modern college football (if you have the recruiting you'll win unless you are incompetent like Fat Charlie was at ND, heck Bobby Bowden's success in his last 5 years was pretty much entirely built on recruiting) and that the last 2 months are *the* most important time. Brandon was from the fossilized 70s when things like this weren't as important, his failure to understand college football will hurt Michigan for years to come, and screwed Brady Hoke, a good man who didn't deserve this situation.
And unfortunately the same could be said for Rich Rod. When you start more freshmen than any other team in the BigTen (probably NCAA too!) on defense, you're bound for some trouble. These gaps in recruiting will and are hurting us.
...a massive attrition and a decision not to slow the implementation of his scheme. That's something that Brady Hoke appears to be avoiding, though the recruiting issue is still there for him as it was for Rich Rod.
The team is so young pretty much everywhere that this recruiting class blow can be taken, and can recover with next year's class.
on O when RR took over. Why would you not implement your scheme when that is what you were brought here for? Brady Hoke has almost his whole offense returning(team for that matter) including the Big Ten O MVP and would be an idiot to blow it up.
what proof do you have that each of the kids who have decommitted wouldn't have simply based on the fired coach, regardless of when the new coach was hired? everybody acts like the process killed them when there's way more evidence they have left because of a coaching staff change.
Hoke could have recovered with some new recruits if given time. Now it's just a lost cause.
Looks like the recruits we have (verbals) aren't real thrilled with Brady Hoke.
Jeez. Take a breath. Decommits are inevitable in a cc. So are new commits. Give the guy at least a week, for crissake.
By the time we take a breath, this will be the worst recruiting class in history. This is a small class and we can't afford to lose 1, let alone 2 or 3.
And I don't see anything being done about it, do you?
It hasn't been a week yet since he was hired. Let him finish talking to the players on the team and getting his staff. I will start to panic if next weekend's recruiting activities are canceled.
I am more concerned about the staff not being set yet.
So no one is allowed to discuss it?
Then you might as well put yourself out of your misery now. Everyone knew the cc would cause attrition. DB all but guaranteed it. Did you really expect otherwise? Have you not witnessed other ccs? There's no way that all commits will be equally compatible/comfortable with the new coach. JH and Les would have lost a couple commits, too, believe it or not.
Now guys like Goudis and Crawford are seriously looking at Miami or have already committed. You know, a school that also just went through a coaching change. Only they handled their change with regards to the short term as well as the long term. Unlike DB, who seems to have abandoned the short term in favor of hopeful stability in the long-term.
Miami lost the bulk of their class including several 4 stars before regaining their footing. Give Hoke time to regain his footing.
I love how Spartanmag is the first one to break that story. On the bright side at least the staff is filling out. How we have not paid some top DC a ton of cash yet is beyond me. With the amount of money we saved from getting Hoke instead of Harbaugh or Miles we should be able to get the very best DC.
Funk Soul Brothers?
Hoke has certainly made his mark this recruting period. Filthy.
Wait a second. Havent you been reading the board lately? Hoke is, without question, the most awesome of awesomist coaches and we are LUCKY......LUCKY I tell you to get him given the crush of teams looking to hire his away from San Diego.
Don't you let the silly recruiting decommits fool you into thinking the players are underwhelmed by his selection. He is the bombdiggetty of coaching excellence.......
This is all on DB.
Oh i know. I've grown weary pointing that out to the board........
At some point Hoke's "recruiting prowess" is going to have to start showing. I agree though, DB shares the brunt of the blame for what could shape up to be a major recruiting disaster.
I think you have to blame DB more than Hoke just based on the timing of the hire. How is Hoke expected to come in with two weeks left and establish a relationship with a kid who may have been coming primarily to play for RR? That's s tough call for a kid to make.
I agree. Hoke has done a horrible job recruiting. He has no new recruits in the past 5 days, while you've been busy posting over 100 comments on MGoBlog in that same time period. You're such a productive machine!!
I don't have time to run down all the reasons why Michigan would be his best choice. Hoke should run these by him. If he is considering MSU then good riddance.
He just has cold feet. 18 young men tend to have very little foresight. Didn't we all. Our recruiting right now is "fluid" as the now overused popluar phrase implies.
I would like the bleeding to stop.
Now would be a good time. Or soon.
I'll trade in Fisher for Bryant though. Seems Posada is still solid with us as well. Hopefully it remains that way.
How about we just get them all to sign on National Signing Day...I think there is enough room for them all. With 7 commits + 3 soft verbals, unless we're trading recruiting classes with Alabama, I think we are in dire need of Fisher, Bryant, and Posada
How are we supposed to reestablish strong recruiting ties with top Midwest recruits when we bring in coaches who have recruited at SDSU and Ball State? Yes, I know Ball State is in the midwest, but might as well be a different landscape.
I'm not giving up on this recruiting class.
I'm not giving up on Coach Hoke.
I'm not giving up on Michigan.
I curious what the value of UM's football brand is to teenagers now? After the last 5 years of poor performances in clutch moments (except for 1 FL game), probation, the coaching carousel, et al...I wonder what the perception is of UM for top tier talent? When I take off my maize colored glasses, the landscape looks pretty rough.
"Hey, you know that guy, his name I think was Charles Woodson? Yeah. I recruited that guy to Michigan." :Flashes National Championship ring:
That should be his recruiting pitch.
Just curious: how many 16-18 year olds remember Charles Woodson at UM? I bet most are more impressed with recent recruiting efforts-not something that happened when they were 6 or 7.
The question remains valid, where are Hokes major recruiting ties?
how Goudis Fisher supposed to be?
quit freaking out about 17 year old kids
And we only have 19 days left until signing day and 7 solid commitments. Apparently you aren't in the "we need more talent and more depth" crowd. Good to know.
At this rate, we are going to have like 10-12 guys in this class. Not much room for error. On the bright side, we will have more schollies for the 2012 class. Positive waves.
I'm sure for now a lot of kids are considering going elsewhere until Hoke reaches out to them or they figure out if this is a good fit for them. My guess is that most of the recruits will come back into the fold by signing day. What is important now, though, is for Hoke to get his staff together NOW and then start trying to convince kids to come to UM again. A big-name DC would definitely help, especially one with ties in the south. I doubt it will happen, but he needs to keep the pipeline open to kids like the Pahokee crew.
If the player doesn't want to come, i think it's better for him to decide now. I don't want to see more attrition 1-2 years from now.
I just got on mgoblog to follow the coaching change and am happy to say I am now going to remove myself. Everyone is too negative. Give hoke a chance for god's sake. I would have no interest coaching for uofm because I wouldn't want everyone constantly calling for my head.
We are not going to miss u
The reason everyone is negative is because it's a fact that EVERYTHING FUCKING SUCKS HAVE YOU BEEN LIVING IN A CAVE
Check ya later, bro
DAMN IT, BRIAN!!! I told you to change the f'in' banner...now we've lost Blichty! Now, look at our 2011 class! Thank you, Mr. Sharp...I mean Cook
Let me be the first to say that because of Dave Brandon we lost Blichty.
This fucking sucks...
WHAT THE FUCK, IS OREGON GOING AFTER EVER RECRUIT IN MICHIGAN????
From a distance I understood Greg Frey to be one of RichRod's "good" coaches (as opposed to Tony Gibson and GERG). I wonder if Hoke considered keeping him?
- - -
It will be interesting to see how this plays out. I can certainly understand why Fisher would want to look around, but Hoke has (by all accounts) always put emphasis on "the trenches," so this player would seem to be more important than most.
Shame we could not have kept Frey and Tall. They are both very good coaches and did an exceptional job coaching the lines.
I get a coaching change and there will be defections. But defections after the coach is named are telling. I understand if you are a slot receiver or a dual threat QB, but kickers and lineman? Why couldn't we have kept one or two more assistants that would have give us some continuity in recruiting?
My expectation is that Hoke salvages a decent class as we keep getting told what a great recruiter he is. It is much easier to keep a kid committed than to go our and get a new kid. I understand he has had little time, but as we keep getting told, this is a special place.
He can't be judged for a few weeks but he better not sleep for the next two weeks.
To answer your question. Fred Jackson is awesome, and the rest of the assistants were fired because they were no Fred Jackson.
I remember when Nick Saban was hired it changed the recruiting landscape of college football. I do not think of Nick as the greatest coach in the world but he gets darn good players. We hired a coach that stood no chance of keeping any recruits. This is terrible because there are some things or positions we cannot do without. The losing days are over. It is derespectful to Bo and the Michigan family.
it's not the end of the world. We have 3 really good tackle's returning. If we don't get him back,we will have to get 2 to 3 tackle's next year.GO BLUE!!!
Where are you Tom?.....
God help us all.
Ok, I don't want to be the voice of reason. I think it would be VERY impressive for Brady Hoke to keep this class whole. If he got 18 recruits I would be unbelievably impressed. I would consider him one of the greatest recruiters ever if he pulled that off.
The reality is that he is not a known name. The fact that he knows local high school coaches will help next year not this year. He will literally be forced to close only those who are currently committed and try to push some others over the finish line. I don't know where this confidence comes from but I believe he will do a great job. I think if Jim Tressel couldn't close his first class very effectively then Brady Hoke will have a very tough time with his first class. If Hoke does a better job than Tressel did closing this first class, then watch out gentlemen...
I will also say that the defensive coordinator hire is much, much more important than Jake Fisher...
Great. First RR goes and gets himself fired for abysmal performance and now he is up and costing us recruits. For shame:)
The firesale has begun.....
What to do yo expect when you hire your coach 3 weeks before the first signing day! Hopefully BH can try to salvage what we had and pick up a few other 3 stars? I'm still holding out hope for a great DC hire. DB, it's time to spend some of the extra money you saved on BH. If BH can get an outstanding recruiting class next year I won't be too unhappy about the way this class seems to be shaping up! What would really help recruiting for next season will be finishing with 9 or 10 wins and victories over MSU and OSU!!!!
Great tradition. Great Education. New coach that preaches toughness on the O and D line. Need depth on O and D line ... decomitt. Say What. Not really clear on the D guys. I can understand a slot or minature RB leaving but D??? If they don't get what A Michigan degree and playing football a Michigan means, then maybe its their loss.
we need him
