It's not a purse, it's EUROPEAN!
January 8th, 2016 at 7:22 PM ^
Well, in the Univeristy of Toedo it's a purse. When in Toedo, do as the Toedoans.
I learned that at the Univeristy.
(Watch us both look like goofs when the OP edits his post!)

Locked in the mistakes for posterity! Watch him blame it on spell check.

The OP can always edit the post. But we can quote all five (!!) errors in a one-sentence post, for posterity:
Jack Miller to join the Univeristy of Toedo Coaching staff and purse a masters degree.
January 9th, 2016 at 12:49 AM ^
that Dorothy's dog's name is spelled "Toto", not "Toedo" ?
January 8th, 2016 at 7:52 PM ^
....and when in Tobago, do as the Tobagans do.
January 8th, 2016 at 9:01 PM ^
I didn't go to a Univeristy. I went to a Collage.
January 9th, 2016 at 9:10 AM ^
you were all over the place?
January 8th, 2016 at 7:19 PM ^
I thought Miller passed on a 5th year to pursue a different career outside of football. Interesting. Best of luck to him.
January 8th, 2016 at 8:10 PM ^
Outside of playing football was my understanding. Jumping into the coaching world sooner, if he was convinced he wouldn't play on Sundays, doesn't seem like a crazy choice.
January 8th, 2016 at 8:28 PM ^
He got a sales job in Chicago, I believe. Sounds like a nice gig fresh out of college. Can't blame him one bit.
January 9th, 2016 at 8:49 AM ^
Has been in Chicago working in financial services. We hung out in SLC at the Utah game and I work on Wall Street so we talked a bit about his career path. He didn't mention coaching at the time but good for him!
January 9th, 2016 at 9:16 AM ^
but does anyone else think he quit because Harbaugh was too tough? I know this is nutty speculation, and I'm not trying to be mean, but I always got the feeling that JM was a fun loving guy and maybe he was all "yeah, I'm outta here" when Harbaugh showed up, all 'time to work with an enthusiasm known to mankind' attitude.
January 9th, 2016 at 9:20 AM ^
I asked him about the new staff but it didn't seem that was an issue - but who really knows?
January 9th, 2016 at 9:21 AM ^
But my guess to that question is no. If he was already thinking about it and was pretty much out the door, even the hiring of a coach like Harbaugh probably couldn't change his mind. IF he had thoughts of playing on Sundays, I imagine that the prospect of a 5th year under JH would have been helpful to him. As it was, I'm thinking he knew he wasn't on that path and decided to leave anyway.
January 9th, 2016 at 10:02 AM ^
Honestly, I think so.
Miller was always one of the Hoke guys who loved to talk the talk but never, ever walked the walk. I am not terribly fond of guys who talk trash, but then never actually play very well.
Wish him the best, but definitely not one of my favorite M players.
January 9th, 2016 at 10:34 AM ^
I think of him as the guy/player who had to deal with the media during last season's Brandon debacle.
January 9th, 2016 at 11:23 AM ^
Sure you aren't thinking of a different guy? I knew jack at school and he could not have been more humble or down to earth. The concussion stuff really worried him and that's, in large part, why he left.

Seemed very humble and bright to me. We were at same hotel in SLC and pregamed with Jack and his buddies (OSU fans) before going to the stadium and then hung out at SLC together for a while before flying out, respectively. We swapped business cards and I offered to help if possible as he continued his FS career.
Still in touch and swap messages now and then through the season.
I asked him about the Minny 'concussion' game and Hoke and he took the high road and didn't say much but he did talk about getting out healthy and brain intact.
Good dude, wish him well at Toledo.
January 9th, 2016 at 3:26 PM ^
Nope.
He definitely had a lot of talk before games, especially before the MSU ones, both of which we were slaughtered in.
He also was very outspoken on controversial issues on Twitter. More than probably any player I've seen, on either side of the aisle.
January 9th, 2016 at 5:48 PM ^
A polisci major having a defined opinion on politics on Twitter doesn't mean he's talking trash...
January 8th, 2016 at 7:19 PM ^
Guess that great business opportunity didn't pan out for Jack.
January 9th, 2016 at 12:39 PM ^
or sometimes when you get out of school you realize the career you were aiming for isn't everything you'd hoped it would be. I know a number of architects and civil engineers for example who get out and get real bored with their careers real fast
January 8th, 2016 at 7:36 PM ^
Tough year in "finance" I guess. Michigan, Chicago...we hardly new ya

He was going to study for the insurance and investment exams. Probably a wise move to get back to where his passion truly is.
January 8th, 2016 at 8:16 PM ^
By that do you mean the actuarial exams? Because with those you gotta take about 10(!) four hour tests.
Yeah, I'd go for the coaching gig.
January 9th, 2016 at 8:51 AM ^
No. FINRA exams like the Series-6, 63 or 7
January 9th, 2016 at 9:16 AM ^
Aren't too bad...I did pretty well on them and passed the first time. The 7 is no joke...a very smart friend of mine failed it the first time. I haven't taken it yet, but it is next on my list.
Side note, if you've taken it...any advice?
January 9th, 2016 at 9:18 AM ^
The S7 is as much an endurance test ad it is a test of intell - it's long and many repeated concepts just worded differently.
I'd say take a prep course and get the options tree down pat. Otherwise it's really just whether you can stay patient during such a long exam.
I have S6/7/63/24 - the 24 was incredibly hard
January 9th, 2016 at 9:25 AM ^
I found the S6 a little like this, very situational and tested your application of a concept, not just memorizing it.
Yes, your assessment is very consistent with what I've been told. Options are a big deal, apparently. CFP is my eventual goal, so trying to rack up the certifications is a goal.
January 9th, 2016 at 9:50 AM ^
Good luck, I'm sure you'll do just fine. Once you get options down you'll want those questions.
Some of the Muni Bond & Tax related questions are pretty dry as are the questions on the regulatory side - 40 Act, etc
So you must work for a Finra firm if you've taken what you have and are looking to take more, right?
January 9th, 2016 at 12:12 PM ^
Yes very best of luck to you with the S7. That's the only exam that I've ever failed in all of my scholastic and professional test taking. I studied for it for 4 months and it was a beast. I also did everything that Kaplan instructed me to not do in order to pass. I crammed without breaks, I studied non stop. I didn't rest well or eat the morning of the exam. I didn't stop testing or studying until like 4 am the morning of. I went in and the first half of the exam was wonderful. The second half I must have drawn a complete blank because everything on the screen looked foreign. Options are great questions to help boost a score once you understand the concept of them. Definitely an exam of endurance. Good luck. Preparation is key.
I now have the 6/63 7/65 and had the 24 but stopped with the managing. CFP is a pretty cool designation. Good luck on your schooling and exams!
January 9th, 2016 at 12:22 PM ^
I can relate.
I did not pass the S24 on first run after getting 80s (aka, "over studying") on the 6,7,63
24 was the first test I failed in my life and was in my 40s ...same, I'd crammed and studied but the test kicked my ass.
On second run 32 days later I crushed it but it was brutal. I spent the month between fail/pass running every day, studying for 4-5hours max and quit drinking alcohol altogether for the month.
January 9th, 2016 at 3:01 PM ^
Yeah the 24 was a very odd test. More about knowing what to not do rather than knowing anything about what needed to be done. REIT stuff was an interesting refresher though.
I was so in shock when I didn't pass the 7. It shook me to my core. I was sitting there wondering what was life about haha. I only missed it by 1 point and after talking to the testing center. They said I probably passed it if I hadn't changed answers and just stuck with my first mind. It happened... I learned my lesson. Studied and took a break and if I knew it I knew it (which I did immediately after taking the first exam). LOL I was reciting shit back to the scorer asking her to let me try again because I knew it.
Luckily I had other things to keep me busy for that month of agony waiting to retest.

If he ends up any good as a coach, I could see him sticking in Toledo for the long haul. He's from there and seems like a homebody

Assistants usually bounce around because of turnover with their HCs. Probably even more true in the MAC as the good HCs all get poached and the bad ones still get canned.
January 8th, 2016 at 9:03 PM ^
That's why I said if he's any good. Quality assistants are potentially retained by new staffs. But Toledo has not had a ton of turnover over the last 25sh years. They've made good coaching decisions. Candle could be there awhile

"I've always had a knack for coaching," Miller said today. "I’ve been heavy on the cerebral side of the game and this is a great opportunity to expand on that and to influence young men."
It sounds like a pretty neat opportunity for Jack and hopefully it works out for him. Even better, he gets to do it more or less down the street from home - I believe he is a native of Perrysburg.

My only comment on this is the same thought I had when I first heard Jack Miller's name. That would be an awesome alter ego name if I were a superhero

I wish him well but really regret not having him return at center -- Glasgow could have replaved Kalis at gaurd.
