I didn't think LA would actually trade either JMFJ or Doughty and would build around that core, but now that he's been moved once, I'd love to see Holland make a play for him this offseason if Lidstrom retires.
Jack Johnson traded to Columbus
Nooooo..... Man, he must be pissed. Going from LA to Columbus, and to a horrible team as well.
lead to more Meechigan jerseys at discount town venue.
hey buckeye fans that root for the Cbus BJs, now you get to root for a michigan alum in brutus' back yard.
When he arrives there he will probably be all like "Where'd all the good people go?"
"You're being traded to Columbus."
"You're being traded to Cleveland."
being traded to either city sucks equally.
Ended up in la because he demanded a trade from carolina, I was told by someone close to him. Im aware there are articles that indicate otherwise. But, he had a thing for playing in certain places.
Granted, this was years ago, and he may have changed his outlook.
if not, this could be an interesting scene. No way he wants to be there.
This is completely false. Jack was traded because Carolina demanded he go pro after his freshman year at Michigan. He decided to stay so they used him as trade bait. Get your facts right before you say something like this.
That's not saying a lot for Cincy. The bar is low given what a shithole columbus is.
Without his middle names I wasn't sure who you were talking about.
This drives me nuts...We trade a 1st rounder for Kyle F*CKING Quincy and Columbus gets Jack Johnson for the same thing...Seriously, WTF Holland.
I know the Wings have a great team, make great moves. But this to me is a MAJOR miss, especially someone like Johnson that is bigger and physical which the Wings could really used. To top it off the guy is skilled as well & a hometown guy....My rant is done!
I am firmly of the opinion that all Detroit sports teams shun local talent and have done so since the Pistons hired Dick Vitale from U of D. I think they have all taken a blood oath to pass on picking up GOOD players with local ties (Drew Stanton doesnt count here obviously) hence:
Tom Brady? No thanks
Jalen Rose? We'll pass
Marty Turco? Ha ha...we already have a goalie
To be fair, we did pretty well for ourselves with the goalies we had instead of Marty Turco.
I've felt that way sometimes too with some of the moves the Wings have made (still can't believe they passed on Merrill for a Domer of all people last year), but when it comes down to it that's not necessarily the case. The Wings do have Drew Miller and Justin Abdelkader, and the Lions have Backus and Stanton.
I'm a bit upset that we didn't get Jack here since he was evidently on LA's auction block, but I'm not sure we could have gotten him anyway. LA is looking for more offense, which is not something we really gave away in the trade for Quincey. Maybe in the offseason something will happen. It'd be absolutely awesome if Jack had the oppurtunity to play at Michigan Stadium.
The Pistons drafted Mateen Cleaves - that didn't work out so well.
Now that Jack Johnson is with them, wonder if the Blue Jackets will consider some new between-the-periods dance-offs.
I hope you enjoy stopping odd man rushes Mr. Johnson. As far as fan dances, unfortunately I've been subjected to this guy too many times to count. Unfortunately this is what passes for entertainment at Jackets games.
You got the headline wrong -- I think the correct term is "banished to Columbus." Holy balls is that team terrible.
Pure Wings fan but I was in LA last year and went to a Kings vs Preds game. Mainly there to watch a hockey game but also have been rooting for LA solely because of Johnson on the team and keeping up on how he is doing. He is in better shape then I am but still sucks having to leave a great team and nicer city (especially with money) to go to columbus (money or not)
THIS IS AWFUL. There's just no way around it.
As another Michigan man stranded in Columbus, some people here really should lay off the RCMB-esque ranting. Downvoting the posters here who've had the temerity to say that Columbus isn't Satan's anus is similarly bad form. Seriously, we're better than this.
Anyways - yes, it's not perfect and the area around campus is as trashy as the fans. The Olentangy smells worse than an OSU fan's cooler. From an NHL standpoint, it's a toxic situation. The Jackets are an ever-present threat to bolt the city and even though I don't follow hockey I still really want that not to happen because it'd kill the Arena District downtown. Columbus is a very middle-of-the-road city and is surprisingly tolerant by Midwest standards. There's a lot of cool neighborhoods, and also more Michigan fans than you'd expect. And a lot of decent cool people there - almost none of whom are OSU fans. (The dirty little secret in Columbus is this: Liking Michigan isn't the worst thing you can do here. No, the worst thing you can do here is flat out not care about the Buckeyes)
So, take it from an 8-year resident of the burb - it's got flaws, yes. It's still better than Flint (where I used to live) It's a nice place to live 9 months out of the year.
And, the cherry on top of all this?
I'm certain all of you had a great time on Nov. 26 after we beat Akron State 40-34. I'm equally certain that no one here had a better time than I did that afternoon, marching through OSU's campus singing The Victors at the top of my lungs.
I agree with everything you said. Even though I hate Ohio, the worst thing about Columbus is the fact that too much of it is run by Ohio. Oh, and stupid Ohio fans. Some of them aren't that bad.
As far as the Blue Jackets, they are terrible and seem to be getting worse. I'm going to the game tonight to witness this fact first hand. I think the NHL gave Columbus the All Star game next year hoping it will shore up some financial and fan relation issues. I have a bad feeling the team will be gone within a few years after that.
Apparently if you're a CBJ season ticket holder, you'd have gotten a letter of apology from the team GM this season. Like we've discussed, the Jackets moving has been hanging over the city's head for- well... ever. At some point things will come to a head, but in order to move you need a clearly better destination. Are there any probable candidates at this point?
I don't know of a better location. Does the NHL dare use the "c" word (contraction you perves). I know the NBA hates it.
On a different note, I need some advice. Does the CBJ getting Johnson give me an excuse to buy and a venue to wear a Big Chill jersey? I love those jerseys but couldn't picture myself just wearing one around town. I know wearing random jerseys to sporting events is generally frowned upon by MGoMembers.
I know next to nothing about hockey, but my gut instinct is to say that any league is loathe to contract a team because it's a visible sign of admitting defeat. A casual fan won't know which teams in a given league are hemorrhaging money but he will take notice of a team being revoked from existence. Never let them see you sweat, right?
Re: the Big Chill jersey. You live in Columbus, right? The jersey says Michigan on it, right? Absolutely you should wear it around town. The looks of indignation on those inbred mouthbreathers alone justifies the price tag and I'm not even being facetious.
