If you are going to say Columbus is a bad city simply for the fact OSU is there you need help. Columbus is a great city. I hope Jack can be part of The Jackets getting things right. Seriously if you are that consumed with OSU that you hate the city it is located you need therapy. It is borderline pathetic.

Columbus is an up an coming city. To gauge a cities value on how many pro sports teams is dumb. I dislike OSU as much as the next, but I am also not a high schooler who acts like calling names is cool. I guess I am mature enough to seperate teams from schools. You calling Columbus a shitty city or OSU a shitty school tends to make you as big a douche as buckeye fan saying Michigan is actually a crappy school. Learn levels of separation people.

In a quick peak online, Columbus is:

  • 6th in nation in most burglaries
  • 1st in the nation for bed bugs
  • 8th in the nation for worst winter weather
  • 11th worst city in the nation to be young in

Bed bugs, really?  Anyways, surprisingly it's only around 50th for most dangerous overall, but it is ranked as the 9th most dangerous city when you just look a places with a population over 500,000.

With that being said, it's great you have something to be proud of.  You love Columbus, yay for you.  I just think these statistics are not in your favor in swaying us to think differently.  That and the fact ITS WHERE FREAKIN' OHIO STATE IS AND THIS IS A GODDAMN UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN BLOG!!!!!!!!!

In other words, this really isn't the place to talk up anything Columbus and think you're going to get through to any of us.  You may think you're looking high and mighty "not acting like calling names is cool" (despite saying we're borderline pathetic and douches), but dude, you're outnumbered by a few thousand here.  You look like the douche to us.

Ahhh Trolling is when you don't agree with the masses that have major issues with a city. Sorry Again if I can seperate being a fan from hating everything Ohio or a certain city. Also please look up trolling because if what I said is trolling then I guess 90% of these boards are one bug Troll Orgy. I have been to Ann Arbor and frankly miss how it is that much better then Colombus. Please help enliten me. I am not saying Ann Arbor is bad just wanting an explination on how it is so much better then Columbus.

trolling - posting inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.

What you did was essentially trolling, but you wouldn't have been ganged up on if you had worded it more maturely.  You came out swinging, saying we need therapy, are douches, pathetic, etc....  If you had came out and just said, "hey, I'm from Columbus (or once lived/visited there, whatever), and it's not as bad as you all think once you get past the OSU thing and this why, yadda yadda yadda" we would've been much more receptive to you.  Trolling is as much about presentation as it is content, and you, sir, came off as a troll (and honestly, there's very little you could say to me now that would  convince me you're anything but a Buckeye fan).  Just something to remember for the next time you post.

As for Ann Arbor, it may pale in your eyes compared to your beloved Columbus, but the rest of the country (not just the folks of MGoBlog) think differently.  I'll resort to rankings again for this:

  • 1st in the nation for "Smartest Big Cities"
  • 7th in nation for best places to find a job
  • 2nd in nation for best college towns/cities
  • 14th most bike friendly city in the nation
  • 6th best digital city
  • 4th in Forbes most livable city list
  • 1st in Forbes top College Sports towns
  • 4th best city in nation for families
  • 9th best art destination in the country
  • 10th best place in nation to visit with your dog
  • 1st in nation for healthiest hometowns
  • 4th in Forbes list of smartest cities
  • 3rd best city for walking

I could go on forever because I found a lot of them. To be fair, I tried to look up bad lists that Ann Arbor is on, but all I could find was 3rd worst roads in Michigan (which I would very much agree with).  Maybe Ann Arbor isn't your cup of tea, but you'll be hard pressed to find anyone that has been to Ann Arbor who didn't enjoy.  Except for maybe some Sparties and Buckeyes, and I'm fine with that, because I don't want them to like my city, it's not for them. Anyways, sorry if I offended you, but I just don't like Columbus, and OSU is my only reason why, and many others here will side with me.  Nothing you can do or say will change that.  Can we move on now?

My response was simple I started by saying Colombus isn't that bad. Sorry if my opinion of people who dislike a city based of a school being located there that is that of there rival to mean indicates help maybe needed. You took offense because I am right. I am far from a Buckeye fan and frankly find most Buckeye fans annoying. I also find most over the top Michigan fans annoying.

SPORTS are a release from life and when you get caught up in the fanatacism of it all I truely think people need help(my opinion). If you want to fight someone because they like another team....seek help. If you are going to talk crap about a city you may never stepped foot in because your teams rival school is there.....seek help. You said I could ahve worded it differently...guess what. This post could have been worded differently or not posted. Sorry I wasn't trolling as you so call it. I was stating my opinion. You all started swinging on Colombus and I deceded to defend the city because it is actually a nice city. You all went Jr High School so I called you out for it and you ended up butt hurt.

parts of Columbus are nice like the ones way  way from the University. But I live in Ohio , born in Ohio, and have alot of family in Dayton which is closer than where I am in Akron. But the university is a shit hole, it is the just horrible. I have always told my Ohio friends how beautiful Ann Arbor is compared to Columbus. The city of Ann Arbor owns C- Bus with money. the way people act toward each other, and just having clean streets. Anyone who says Columbus is a great city must be from Gary, Indiana or some other murder capital of the world. You guys think the MSU game was a trash blizzard, welcome to Columbus everyday all day.

Who the hell are you and why do you have such a hard on for Columbus?  This is a Michigan site (if you hadn't realized), and some people here are either going to joke around about not liking anything OSU related or seriously have disdain for it.  Hell, if the other schools can say our city "is a whore", then why are you expecting us here to speak nothing but positives about their city?

As for me, if hating Columbus because its home of OSU is borderline pathetic, well then I'm just happy my patheticness is only considered borderline.

and it fucking sucks.  the bud light plant stinks, the oldngrungy river is just that, old and grungy.  the downtown area is nothing special.  the interstate and interstate bypass is fucked because of the short ass on and off ramps.  it is almost a mimick of indianapolis but not a nice.  the fairgrounds where the crew play look like it is primarly used to graze cattle, sheep and goats.

What is boderline pathetic is you coming in here defending what a fucking dump of a shithole columbus is.  It has nothing to do with being a homer.  cbus really does suck.

MattisonMan

February 24th, 2012 at 1:36 AM ^

I wouldn't call it a shithole, but it's closer to that than 'great'.  This having nothing to do with the inhabitants.

It's like saying your ex is dating an asshole.  Of course many will have some bias, but that doesn't mean you're always wrong.

OSU is just icing on the cake. It really has nothing to do with that. Its going from LA and Hollywood to Ohio. Its going from a playoff team with great players to a Columbus team in rebuild mode.

Edit: he is also finishing up his degree at USC. Not sure if he is finished. But that could also be a disappointment.

I'd bet 99% of the league would be pissed getting traded from LA to the Columbus. Defend Columbus all you want. No one in their right mind would say it compares favorably to LA as a place for a young milionaire to live. Oh, and the Blue Jackets are far and away the worst team in the league.

is Detroit an improvement on LA for his quality of life?

then why is everyone throughout the the thread trying to engineer a scenario where he comes to the Red Wings? Uh huh... we're all just so concerned with him playing for a bad team, nothing to do with the fact that we're grown ass men who are incapable of viewing the world through any prism other than MICHIGAN FOOTBALL. That's the ticket!

From a Red Wings POV thank god San Jose didn't get Carter and Nash like people were speculating. As a Michigan fan that sucks for him, he's put on a horrible team in one of the worst possible cities

I'm sure you will get boooo'd at home but there are many of us that will be pulling for you, here in cbus. My season tickets will finally get some use! Now if the Jackets would just trade their general manager, I would be very psyched!

Whoops - the LA Alumni group is offering tickets for the last Kings/Wings game of the season featuring a "meet and greet with Jack Johnson".

Maybe he'll fly back for it anyway.

Look, I have no love for OSU, but raising kids down here I want them to be able to see major league sports -- the Crew and Blue Jackets. The Jackets have been mismanaged so long there's been talk of losing the franchise. And now I have a Jacket to root for.

I love the Crew and Clippers. I've been fans of both teams for so long. I always loved going to see the Clippers in Cooper Stadium and I do love their new ball park at Huntington Park. Beautiful ball stadium and a great place to watch a game!
