Jabrill Peppers video: Calm down, people.

Submitted by MGoManBall on

In the wake of the current meltdown on the board about Peppers taking officials via his Twitter, I would just like to post this link to a video posted just yesterday featuring the young man.

Quotes from the video:

"I know one of my dreams is to run back a punt against Ohio State."

"I want to bring a national championship to Michigan."

"It's hard to say no to Michigan. That degree. If all else fails, then you got that degree."

"When people say Michigan, I want them to say Jabrill Peppers THEN Charles Woodson."

Someone can make this an individual thread if they want but Dan Dierdorf (likely a good friend of DB) just said that he is 100% sure Brady Hoke is Michigan's coach next year.

With that said, I don't think we have to worry about Jabrill taking that visit or even decommitting very seriously.

This video, which is sadly without an embed code so you have to go to BR to see it, probably would fall under the narrow list of exceptions regarding Bleacher Report. There is very little that BR could do to screw this up. If it were part of a larger feature which drew a conclusion about a totally different story than the one they wrote - which is more typical - that might be different.

Isnt it Michigans policy that commits who continue the recruiting process after giving their word are  NO LONGER Michigan recruits?...Way to Kick the dog when hes down!

Very dissapointing

We have certainly demonstrated this year that there is no accountability for the o-line, coach, head coach or o-coordinator, so why should any recruit give a shit about this staff's stupid, flaccid, ineffective recruiting rules? There is no way I would commit to a program that is sliding into the sewer. I am surprised we haven't seen more deco its yet. Hand should be a wake up call to all Hoke appoligists.

They are no longer considered commitments; that does not mean they are no longer being recruited and it doesn't mean they can't recommit.

There's been at least one situation in the past where a player took his outside visits on the sly and damaged the relationship to the point that he was no longer recruited. That doesn't seem in play at all here.

From 24/7 According to Juwan Bushel Beatty (his teammate, for those who don't know) and his HS coaches don't know anything about this.  Take it FWIW.  It's hard to judge much from 140 characters, and until he does an interview or something saying otherwise, I think we should just all assume he'll stay committed.  Not that the MGoBoard would ever do that

Edit: Ferns says that the official visit thing is legit, but he think he'll stay with us.

/Recommence panic.

The whole issue of reserving space for a guy is probably moot here, because I doubt there is anyone left available who Michigan would offer a scholarship to if Peppers decommitted...Of course it's true that Peppers could end up somewhere else.  This is cold comfort, but nobody's on board until he signs an LOI, and even then guys transfer, so you can't even cling too tighly then.

If you love someone, set them free, is what I suppose I'm saying...

How do people still not get this.

He doesn't pull any offers.

He just no longer considers them a commitment to the team.

They can talk to the coaches, and if they want to be let in the class, then they can.  The only times Hoke pulls any offers is when a player goes behind the backs of the coaches (doesn't tell them their intention to visit other schools), and even then they can get back in their good graces a la Dawson.

You can't be committed and also be looking around; it's one or the other.

If you look around and want to recommit, you can try. There's no guarantee the scholarship hasn't been given to someone else in the meantime, though. (Peppers probably doesn't have to worry much about that, but others would.)

If you've ever had a girlfriend the concept shouldn't be hard to grasp.

I agree there are many fair-weather fans. It's much easier to cheer for a team that is good. But if you look at many of the "negative" posts, many of the posters have been here for a long time. I've been a UM fan since my childhood and will continue to support my team. We are not fair-weather fans. It's just that many of us allow our passion to get in the way of rational thought sometimes. I know I'm guilty. I've been very spoiled by UM (I remember the one year we went .500 for the first time in forever and people were jumping off cliffs) and this season, the last decade, has really raised my apathy, hell sadness, to unhealthy levels. Think I'll take your advice and just take myself away from the forums for awhile.

BTW, UM swimmers are ranked #1! Yay, non-revenue sports!!!

Prior to the "official visits" tweet, Peppers retweeted a tweet about a Bama recruit who took official visits to Ole Miss, Notre Dame, and UCLA, but was still solid with Bama...

... to take his "visits" tweet in that context. I don't think he's going anywhere. Things are bad now but he's remained solid through most of the tumult this year.

PEPPERS STATEMENT THROUGH TOMVH

"I am still 100% committed to the University of Michigan and that is the place where I want to go to college."

"With the rumors about Coach Hoke possibly not being there I need to make sure that I have options and have seen other places."

- Peppers "For the sake of my future I need to make sure I have other options. No need to look into it any further. Go Blue and beat TDS." - Peppers

one site is reporting that John Harbaugh is being 'recruited' by UM.  Won't happen.  If we're in this place next year, I'll believe it.  The same article talks about USC and Texas talking to him as well.
