Izzo Whining

Submitted by Ziff72 on

After the last week of everyone holding Izzo's nut sack I wonder if he'll be taken to task for acting like a bitch in the post game. I'm not a "you can't blame the refs" guy or a "no excuses" guy so I have no problem with Izzo blowing up the refs in his post game if he wanted or talkin injuries but.....

I thought his dancing around the whole press conference was ridiculous. Either shut the f up or speak like a man. "Butler is a great team, but Raymar was in foul trouble".....It wasn't the refs fault, but I could blow $10,000 in fines real quick" So there's a fine for coaches ripping refs so Izzo says I have nothing to say, because I'd burn $10,000. WTF is he saying?? That seems like bashing the refs to me....fine him for talking about getting the fine.

Beilein was hammered after the MSU meltdown, they even ripped G. Robinson's spring presser for excuses, Izzo needs to be given the same treatment by the bandwagon Green and White media.

He's pretty good at complaining about officiating.

The mocking treatment he gets from the Maize Rage is fantastic.

Yes. I don't care how skewed the fouling was, Butler made one field goal in the last 12 minutes of a game they shot 30% from the field, and you lost by 2 points. The game was their for the taking aside from the refs, you let the refs stay in the game by not playing good basketball and turning it over.

I was watching the game pretty neutrally as I try to root for the big ten when I can handle it. I really didn't see many fouls that izzo could even bitch about. butler was agressive and state got caught reaching in alot of situations. Whats there to complain about?

It sounds like he isn't happy with the way the game was called, but knows he won't change the outcome by going on a rant about them not doing their jobs correctly (whether he is right or wrong I don't know), he would only dig himself a $10k hole.

Just a guess, I didn't see either press conference that you mentioned.

Yeah, he's from MSU, fuck that guy!!

EDIT: No sarcasm, just kind of drunk and really don't like Izzo's damn face, or his wife that they kept showing. Lupe Izzo? What a crazy ass name.

I had an MSU fan in all his misery and pouting after the game make a bet with me because he was upset that I rooted for Butler....

He bet that MSU would make more final fours in the next 10 years then Michigan would make tournament appearances. I took that bet.

What do you guys think...good or bad move?

So you bet something, and he bet something something he doesn't have, so he can't lose it. Uhm, good bet.

And I'd get that $100 in a trust fund or something. Don't depend on him having it in his pocket that day. That's a lot of hours at the drive-thru.

After the game when he was being interviewed, one of the first things he said was that in the last play there looked like there was a foul on green.

It certainly seemed to me that MSU got more calls than its opponents in the games leading up to the Final Four (coupled with some incredible luck).

Of course he's upset his team didn't win, but he does seem to make excuses. Then again, I bitch all the time and make excuses for all sorts of stuff. But I doubt anyone cares about why I suck at Modern Warfare 2, so I won't bring that shit here.

im drunk. won money off the games tonight, including my pool. for some reason i feel like i'm going to wake up in the morning with a smile on my face, and the image of izzo crying to the refs about losing .00003 seconds

Izzo and his 'smelled a fart' face that he makes ~20 times a game is hilarious.

Nothing will happen to him just like nothing will happen UCS or Urban Cryer at UF. The NCAA won't cut off its nose to spite its face.

Izzo is now officially untouchable.

What he needs to realize is that Butler made ONE field goal in the last 12 to 13 minutes of that game and his team still couldn't win. What a little baby in the interview after the game.

Yeah, I didn't see anything wrong with the "lane violation" in the New Mexico State game Tom, yup your team is the only team that has bad calls go against them. I thought the Butler/MSU game was a well officiated game, especially at the end. They are not going to make that call on Green with 2.0 on the clock. Just like they wouldn't with MSU player pulling on Sims jersey in Ann Arbor this year. That's basketball for ya. Tom a great Tourney coach? I guess if you like being #4! He is now 1-6 when the door needs to be closed, not so good!

What's weird is it seems Draymond Green actually handled it as well as you could expect anyone to, and certainly better than Izzo did. In the press conference he basically said he should have taken it up stronger and that had Butler been the one shooting and MSU been called for a foul they would have been really ticked. Took responsibility, and understood why the call wasn't made, with no complaints about the non-call.

I still think that Izzo is a great coach, but he has won exactly one championship, and that was a decade ago. He is a very good recruiter who knows how to grab guys who will stick around for a couple of years and keep him competitive, but right now, I'm not sure his teams should be considered in the same bracket as teams like UNC, Kansas, Texas, etc. This whole tournament has basically been one long lucky streak - heck, without some weird lane violation, he might have been out in the first round. He had a nice run, but I never thought this team had a chance to win this year. You might say that is good coaching, but this year at least it looks like a confluence of fortunate events.

I only saw the last minute, but I knew that someone from MSU would initiate contact and that they would expect the refs to bail them out like they have the entire tournament. I hoped that because Butler is the sentimental favorite, the refs would call BS on it instead of calling a foul. That is exactly what happened.

State got what they deserved, four games too late. And now they are close to being the Buffalo Bills of the NCAA. It couldn't happen to a nicer program.

As for Izzo, I hope his next post-game whining happens in the NBA. Getting to the final four has increased his monetary value to as high as it will be. There is no way MSU can match what Izzo is presently worth on the open market.

Also, his "window" will soon close, because he will be too old and the offers will stop coming in.

Only asshole coaches whine, right?

http://www.annarbor.com/sports/michigan-hockey-coach-red-berenson-wants…

but wait! that's not it!

http://www.michigandaily.com/content/2009-02-02/eisenstein-column

And Tater - Red hasn't won a 'ship in 12 years. Are we the Buffalo Bills of college hockey?

Look, the thing I hate most in sports is whining about the refs. I hated it when this board blew up in whining at the end of of UM/MSU hoops game earlier this year, and I think Izzo should keep his mouth shut. But lets be aware of our own hypocrisy.

say there is a pretty big difference between complaining about the refs, with some pretty subjective rules, where, yes 2 points may be the margin of victory or defeat, but those 2 points are part of 60 or more points (for each team) and complaining about a puck being kicked in and counted (specifically against the rules), a net not coming off but a goal not being counted because the net came off (I was closer to the net than the ref that made that call, the net didn't move) and a whistle blown when the other team had possession, that negated a goal, when NCAA rules specifically state that a rebound does not count as possession, in OT, in a one and done tournament game.

But then, that's probably just my bias against basketball because I do not know how to call anything. But in my opinion Red is doing it because the integrity of the game is getting tormented and murdered and he's put too much of himself into college hockey to allow that. If he were complaining about a minor penalty (of which many questionable ones happened, 2 of which cost us a goal) or a no call (read parenthesis above) I would be upset, because as much as I hated the overall reffing, the whole regional over, both teams can probably make the same arguments about horrible calls or no calls, those kind of things cancel each other out and are subjective and so there is no point in bitching about them. That's how I view basketball fouls. Everyone is going to get some bad ones, that's the game. When something is obviously wrong though, that needs to be addressed. If you noticed, because of the kicked in goal in the second article you mentioned, Red had more/better cameras installed, (theoretically) across the league. That helps and hurts everybody. That's the integrity of the game. That's why Red is upset. That's why he's talking to the NCAA. He's not complaining to get good calls for his team, he's complaining to get fair calls for everyone. I guarantee you that if Miami had been the one that had the goal (wrongly, by the rules) blown off, Rico would have been livid too. I can't guarantee you this, but I'd bet a good deal of money that even if Michigan had beaten Miami, Red would be complaining about that whistle.

But again, maybe someone that knows something about basketball can chime in, because this is just what I know from observing the game and knowing nearly nothing about it.

I didn't read most of your thesis there, but I did catch this gem. "just my bias against basketball because I do not know how to call anything." If you want to compare two things, maybe you can at least understand both of the things are you talking about in order to make a good comparison.

Refs make judgment calls. Ref are sometimes wrong. Coaches are affect by those judgment calls and sometimes get pissed. What Red did was the same thing that Izzo did, and it's what 99 percent of every coach in every sport does.

Let move on here.

JustGoBlue

April 4th, 2010 at 2:20 PM ^

I don't think you can say that because I'm admitting that I don't know much about basketball, my whole point is false. This argument isn't based on my knowing basketball, I'm just allowing the possibility that my ignorance COULD affect things, if I thought it did, I wouldn't have posted. What Red did is not the same. Red got a system put in place so that refs can make calls more fairly, whether it hurts or helps Michigan. Izzo complained to help his team. If he were complaining to put a system in place to get rid of obviously wrong calls (ND's kick-in goal against Michigan, when the rule at the time, stated that any puck off a offensive skate does not count as a goal). Was that the refs fault? Not really, they could/should have had better positioning, but that's about it, the current replay didn't allow them to do anything. So Red complained and he got better replay. That's better replay for BOTH teams. That's the integrity of the game.

If Izzo were to complain in order to change something, for the future, a rule, a replay system, whatever, that would make the game more fair for EVERY team that played, he would deserve kudos and great respect.

Yes, your comment makes me a little irritated. I put thought into most (read: some) of my posts and to have someone dismiss it because of ONE sentence that I include, to make sure everyone knows I'm not the be-all-end-all authority on the matter and that I don't think I am either, is irresponsible and disrespectful of you, in my opinion. I get your what you're saying, it's all in my post in slightly different words, I just added a perspective. Thanks for wasting both of our times. Happy Easter.

EDIT: And for the record, I don't mean to cast any judgement on Izzo, just to try to defend Red.

JustGoBlue

April 4th, 2010 at 2:29 PM ^

he lost a game on a horrible call. But he has campaigned to change hockey and he has changed hockey. To say that all of his complaining is just to complain is simply incorrect. I'm not saying Red doesn't complain, he complains about the officials a ton in a "I didn't care for the officiating in this game", "One thing I won't miss when I leave is the officiating in the league" way. You can't deny that. But it's not all the same. To say that the complaining in the daily article is the same is wrong, because Red did create a change and the game is fairer because of it. To ridicule him for making the game more fair is ridiculous.

I do NOT know there is a change he can even make here, other than hopefully making it so that if a team isn't going to get a goal, in the NCAA tournament, the coach at least gets an explanation for it.

Red is a HUGE whiner, he's a coach, it's part of his job, I don't disagree with that. But I do disagree that, in this case, it's the same thing.

I'm sorry for defending a coach that has done something right.

I'm not ridiculing Red, I'm not sure where you're getting that from. I'm pointing that, as you say, all coaches complain about refs. Izzo doing so doesn't make him any of the things people on this thread seem to want to accuse him of.

I think defending a fellow human (that happens to be a winning coach at a rival school) is a bad thing, if morality is defined by mgopoints.

Whoops. I guess I'm a bad person then.
