Izzo, Hollis unhappy with reaction to Nix-Zeller incident

Submitted by Cold War on

@joerexrode: To summarize, Izzo wasn't happy with how Nix-Zeller thing was overblown, and Nix had no comment. #groingate

@joerexrode: Izzo on the tape: "You watch it, you view it. But I didn’t appreciate the way it was handled. For Derrick, I think he's been through enough"

@joerexrode: More Hollis: "I watched many different angles ...I can state with confidence Derrick played the game the way it is supposed to be played"

@joerexrode: Hollis: "There should be no perception that Derrick plays the game any way other than with a spirit of good sportsmanship and effort."

I couldn't agree with coach Izzo more. Poor, misunderstood and unfairly accused Nix. You play the game the right way and all the haters just look for a chance to pile on when they so much as THINK you may have done something that pushes the limits a bit.

It's so unfair,

Tom

This whole thing is way overblown. I initially missed the nut shot but after watching it on several replays it was painfully obvious that this was not a serious incident at all. While I don't want my kids playing dirty I also do not want them to play with a lack of grit or determination. Only Zeller and Nix know the truth whether or not either of them meant any harm to one another.

Either way, I hate both schools and hope we smash on both of them before we make our March Madness run to the final four.

If you really think a lanky kid can control the forearm and upper arm of a 325 lb fatass to the point where he slightly nudges his balls... Well, I've got a Ford Pinto to sell you. Guarantee you'll love it.

Hey Cold War...why don't you proxy yourself into a chair with a cold one for the rest of the night. Two back to back threads? This is a pointless thread, one below isn't even controversial. Nix thing isn't even worth the energy to think. Below, if the veteran lived abroad, arm services establishes a dual residency, hence he isn't really a true Michigan resident any more. Where does the university draw a line on residency? That's a Pandora's box waiting to happen to always give exceptions.

Did you say "arm" services?  I do believe you mean Armed Services.  And no, being in the Armed Services does not establish dual residency.  Your records indicate one home of record, one "legal" state of residency.  If that is or is not the same as your state of domicile, then so be it.  During my 20+ yrs in the military, even though I was never stationed in the State of Michigan, I still filed a Michigan tax return.

Their kid got played by Zeller.  I don't blame them for being mad at the initial reaction to the incident by Vitale and all the others who jumped on board the "Nix as the culprit" train.  Hopefully this will teach Dickie V and other loud mouth announcers to keep their mouths shut when they don't have all of the information.

I think they're essentially right.  My initial reaction was similar to Vitale's...But later in the broadcast, ESPN put both "groinings" on back to back; and in my opinion - Zeller was executing a little gamesmanship 101.

Just too much evidence works against Zeller...His hand is on the inside of Nix', as such, if Nix had originated the force, Zeller's hand/arm wouldn't follow it to the target, certainly not simultaneously.  And check our Nix' hand/arm, it's completely limp at the onset, and the way the wrist bends initially suggests that it's being pulled, imo.  And while some folks like to compliment the "acting job" Zeller executed, ESPN had a great baseline look (behind the play) and the shocked look Nix gives TV Teddy right after it happened, it was all, "What the hell is this moron trying to pull!"

The most interesting aspect, imo, is that I was convinced that the first incident was simply a basketball play, wrong place wrong time...Now I'm less certain.

After the alleged nut shot, did you see how Zeller, not showing any pain while bent over turned around and looked at the ref to see if he was going to call anything.  His "flop" was just an attempt to try and get a call.

Nix spends all week talking trash in the media and then acts like a jerk on the court. I guess it's too much to ask the coach and AD to quietly tell him to get his act together.

Eh I'm in the camp that thinks Zeller completely flopped here.  That said, Izzo and Hollis have got to be the biggest pair of whiners in the league.  You don't have to respond to every single negative thing anyone says about your program.

Hollis:  "I watched many different angles..."

Izzo:  "But I didn't appreciate the way it was handled."

This must qualify as front page news in east lansing.  Hillarious.  Surely Hollis is pressing the NCAA to investigate.
