Ivan Maisel goes too far
It's one thing for UM fans to mock our defense, because we do it with pain and love and desperate hope for improvement, but Ivan Maisel is now calling out our defense and making a joke of it. This has gone on long enough.
UM Defense -- please make Maisel eat his words this weekend. Don't do it for the fans. Don't do it for the program. Do it for yourselves. You are way better than this.
... if insanity is defined as doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result, then the Michigan defense may need a competency hearing.
The three winningest programs in the history of college football -- Michigan, Texas and Notre Dame -- are a combined 13-12. The Wolverines are 5-3, thanks to their Brett Favre defense -- neither one knows how to get off the field

Its fair game until someone does something about it. I don't see this as awful or anything just the truth. Worse things have been said, just ask Charlie Villanueva.

Uhh if you think that is going too far, im guessing you stayed away from the MGoBoard this week.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
Read most of it.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:13 PM ^
Then you should really find something better to do with your time.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:23 PM ^
Wow, you got me with that one.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:53 PM ^
It was a lame response, but I honestly do wonder, with the nonsense that has been posted on this board the last week, I don't know how peeps can read this shizz.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:47 PM ^
Hey we are an easy target at this point.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:48 PM ^
Maisel is a touche-wad. It's not the first time this year, he has ripped on us and it won't be the last.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:27 PM ^
He's a bundle of clever comebacks?
November 4th, 2010 at 2:29 AM ^
I see what you did there.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:52 PM ^
What world do you live in that Maisel's comments go too far, but this http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/things-more-competent-2010-michigan-defense is kosher? If anything being made fun of by your own fans should be more offensive to the team.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
are making fun of some young men that are being forced into action way sooner than they should have. which is a giant shame.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:15 PM ^
It's an "interesting" topic of discussion because, on one hand, the players are probably harder on themselves than anyone but, on the other, these are 18-19 year-old kids that people are denigrating in some instances. I have tried to temper my critique with the latter in mind but I am probably an offender at times as well. Its always hypocritical though because I could obviously never perform at that level myself.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:24 PM ^
and used a player or two's name in vain but when it gets to calling them out in a way you would never rip your friend's kid, etc... it gets a bit far
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:51 PM ^
And being much more critical than some rando WWL "expert". Why the OP thinks that what's been said on this board is OK while what Maisel said isn't is beyond me.
November 4th, 2010 at 2:21 AM ^
it's RRs fault that all these frosh and sophs are playing...
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
I see nothing wrong with this at all. Just because we're Michigan doesnt mean that people cant make fun of us. Until the defense steps up then theyre fair game.
I hate it though. I dont like being the laughing stock any more than you do. Go Blue.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:51 PM ^
Honestly, I was expecting a lot worse. Our defense is bad. I'm sure many mgousers have said much worse while yelling at their TV's than "You don't know how to get off the field" and needing "competency".
November 4th, 2010 at 12:30 AM ^
he could have been much more harsh and still have been accurate.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
we got compared to Brett Favre. It could have been Ryan Fitzpatrick, Troy Smith, or something worse!
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:56 PM ^
Wow....i was expecting something that was....was.....i dunno...less true I guess. TRUST me....way worse stuff was written on this board in the 24 hours after last Saturday's game.
Hell....l if I didn't post stuff more over the top Sunday morning I"m pretty sure I yelled far, far worse at my TV Saturday night and I know damn well I thought it.
November 3rd, 2010 at 9:57 PM ^
he's paid to evoke emotion.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:06 PM ^
If you clicked on the link, he won
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
Being put in the same sentence as Notre Dame is a little more disheartening than anything else said.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:21 PM ^
it's not my fault the defense sucks....just for the record, guys.
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:22 PM ^
What incorrectly based reference did he make?
November 3rd, 2010 at 10:35 PM ^
Honestly, that's about right. This may be the worst defense in UM's history, and I feel like I've been saying that for 3 years now.
November 4th, 2010 at 12:16 AM ^
Sounds like he spoke the truth to me
November 4th, 2010 at 2:11 AM ^
i'm seriously in favor of a punt block formation on every play... i mean, it's what you do when you get really pissed off in football video games, right?
some of you need thicker skin if these comments are considered "too far".
we've already established that Greg Robinson has a learning disability. it's time for him to save his breath, and from the sideline, simply point at the opponent's QB
November 4th, 2010 at 2:37 AM ^
The look on people's faces when you sneakily break out the punt block and stuff them for -5 only to be resumed by the 4-2-5 interception machine is priceless
November 4th, 2010 at 5:02 AM ^
It really is up to our defense to prove him wrong, but that will be harder now with Floyd gone. We need a little perspective, these are young college men putting forth a lot of effort. They will be exciting to watch to next year with the extra experience.
November 4th, 2010 at 6:09 AM ^
...and if you are an objective U of M fan, you'd instantly know that RR is doing this to himself by repeating the same mistake(s) he did with Shafer. For all that RR knows about Offense, he obviously is deficient about Defense because what we are witnessing is absolute garbage. And sure, we have young guys, but there comes a point where you have to also question how they are developing/coaching these kids. The D looks like they are a hodge podge of drunken frat guys trying to play tackle football.
