IU Snowflakes

Submitted by Generic MGoBlogger on

Just a pathetic effort on all ends... IU wanted to hand it to us in the first half turning the ball over on every possession, but there was no effort made to get guys open. Nobody stepped up with Stauskas being held in check, and the offense was just stagnant.  However, I think this team needed a little wake up call after being on top of the world for the last two weeks. Frustrating but not the end. Pick it up for Nebraska and Iowa on Saturday.

This board is hilarious. Robinson gets blame but Stauskas gets a pass? He did nothing to make Ferrell work on D. And if he was hobbled then it's on Beilein to bench him or him as a player and say Coach I can't go and I'm hurting the team. This board always has an excuse for Staukas. He a good player and good players have bad games. It's ok to call them on it if you can do it to others.

That's comparing apples and oranges in my opinion. Stauskas is our stud, yes we needed him to step up tonight and he didn't so we can obviously blame him for that. But Robinson is now consistently playing like shit in big games. For a guy that thinks he's a first round draft pick he has to be able to dominate a guy like Etherington and he never did that. Nor did he ever dominate valentine or many others. He's just not as good as he should be. His potential is through the roof but he is consistently disappearing in games. Levert has become a better option offensively than Robinson. And even Walton has for that matter.

I disagree. Last year Trey got criticized for his bad play way more than Stauskas ever has. And if you want to compare offensive output, Nik and Caris have the ball in their hands majority of the time. I will continue to say this about Robinson as a player, he needs plays run for him and Beilien doesn't especially in this system. He's not a shooter, he's a slasher and he gets missed a lot on the cut across the lane from wing to box on the opposite side on the court. Even when he looks to post, he rarely gets the ball. People forget that although he plays the 4 in this system, he's only 6'6 and not that big body wise.

Walton has shot the ball well and is excellent in transition, but he lets anyone burn him off the driblble. Also, why can't he get into the paint and create shots for us?

Needs to be pointed out:

Jordan Morgan was a beast in the first half and kept us in the game.  Had something like 8 boards in the first half and altered many shots by their big dude.  Everyone will focus on the FTs late (IU missed a couple front ends as well...) but without Morgan, this would have been very ugly.

I agree we need someone to step up a be the guy when Nik has a bad game. Last year it was Tim. I really hope it starts to be Walton. Love a PG who can just take over games. I think this loss motivates us for Nebraska, and we blow them out.

My Sunday was ruined or even sad since I knew they would lose. Had they won it would have been a nice cherry on top to end the week. Now it's back to business and focus on winning the Big along with winning a NC

We're at our best when the offense runs through Nik. He adds so much as a scorer, but also as a passer, double-team demander, and distraction to other defenders. Today he literally just stood there on 80% of our possessions. On one play it was so bad where LeVert needed to swing it around the perimeter for help, and Nik made zero effort to flash out for the ball. He let his teammates down today. If you're gonna be The Man and throw up three signs and blow kisses, then you need to lead by example and show up every game. It's one thing to be "off" for a game; it's another to not give full effort.

man this place goes nuts sometimes.

- the effort today did not suck. they were within striking distance till the end. not a great indy team, but its not bad, and any conference road game will be tough. plus, yogi is probably all big ten and played all world.

- M was a little overrated. if sparty had that week we just had i'd have been fuming about all the asterisks on those wins. it was a great week, but we were rather fortuitous. i like where this team is headed, but that wisco/iowa/state stretch was something only top 5 teams do. thats not M yet. maybe soon.

- commenters speculated stauskus was sick. i find that rather believable. and this kid is so far from deserving criticism it doesnt matter why he was such a non factor today.

- GRIII couldnt be more frustrating. i doubt i was the only one screaming "where was that all game" when he went hard to the hole with ~2 min for 3 pt play. if beilein can solve this riddle (he will), M is as legit as it gets. i loved morgan's play today. walton is blowing up. lavert and stauskus are A's on the wing, and our bench could be outstanding with horfort, spike, and hopefully irvin makes the leap soon. but its all about GRIII. this team can win a championship this year if he plays at 80% of his potential.

long rant- gist: the teams in great shape, chill out over one loss.

So last year, we lost to Penn State on the road, then later on made the national championship game.

These things happen for reasons that we can debate over till kingdom come... but still, these things happen.

I realize that the offense didn't have the greatest day but the disappointing thing to me about the game is Ferrel.  Going into the game, you knew Ferrel is the one guy who's a decent shooter.  What happens - he goes 7-8 from three.  How do you let Ferrel get that many shots, especially when he's making them?

Your own question, Ferrell is a damn good player. Couple that with him playing at home, and our history at assembly hall, this seemed like an easy loss for us, seemed pretty predictable to me. Hell, we won 10 in a row...this team still relies waaaaayyyy too much on jump shooters, with that, we could go far in NCAA tourney, or we could lose in first round.
