IU Canned Music: D+

Submitted by TomW09 on
So, against ND I was pretty apathetic to the piped in music. Some good, some eh, but nothing terrible. Today was terrible. Kid Rock? I like Kid Rock, but that seriously was painful to hear. It was way too loud with those terrible speakers which made it sound like something slightly worse that two-year olds crying while scratching their fingernails on a chalk board while listening to the OSU fight song. They played Seven Nation Army approximately 6 times, which, GOD GET SOME ORIGINALITY!!!! Eminem was probably played 3-4 times. Several times they played a song for no more than 15-20 seconds. Really, if they are going to do this they need to know what is going on and when they should start playing and when they should just wait. Hint: Playing Seven Nation Army for 15 seconds before IU's 1st and 15 is unnecessary. This resulted in the fans, especially students, being distracted and not getting loud for the defense. Bob Seger: Yes. Twist and Shout: Yes. Piped in music between every play b/c the band is moving to the field: No. Save it for TV timeouts, PLEASE!

Watching the OSU game. It would appear that Seven Nation Army is OSU's "adopted" pump up song, ala Jump Around at Wisco and Zombie Nation at PSU. Shouldn't that be enough reason for us to not play it? We've, fairly obviously, avoided the other two, so I would prefer to axe it and find something of our own.

Seven Nation Army HAS to stop. Jesus Christ, that is an embarrassment. We might as well play the Penn State fight song. I'm a Mets fan, and last year someone decided to play Sweet Caroline during the 8th inning. The fans booed mercilessly until it stopped. I hate to say it, but the students have to take matters into their own hands here. Start booing if you have to. This is your team - make your voices heard.

It's Penn State's song because they have played it 12 times at every home game for the past 4 years. They chant it on the street after they win. They chanted it on College Game Day this morning. Yes, they stole it from the Brits, but still, are we really gonna play Seven Nation Army at home against Penn state next month? Amateur hour. Our football program is 130 years old. We have the best fight song in the history of sports. Stealing canned music from a team that stole canned music from some English soccer team should not be necessary at this point. Again: students, take control here.

Had to coach my kids soccer games, unfortunately not in the Big House today. I agree with comments about not making the opposition feel too comfortable in our stadium. I do disagree with the comment 7 Nation Army does not sound cool in the stadium, or on TV. If you can get 100,000 (OK 30,000?) people to say anything in coordination it sounds cool. (Agreed, all 108,000 singing the Victors would be awesome) If SNA was played more than once, it is probably too much. There are too many cool songs out there. With that many people, a wide selections of songs, some one will always complain. (Heck, we are 4-0, vastly exceeding most of our own expectations and we are still finding things to complain about on this blog.) (I think Any Given Sunday Al Pacino Inches Speech over the Jumbo Tron would be cool, if done properly, Bo's "The Team") Ufer? Blutto's Animal House Speech? Bo's speeches would be unsettling to opposition. Plus they would be our own.

The Bose speakers suck (IMHE). I think with time, they will get the piped in music selection, timing and sampling right. Right now they are just throwing pickles on the window (or cupcakes against the wall, if you prefer) to see what sticks.

Seven Nation Army is used by Penn State AND Ohio State, correct? And it absolutely baffles me that no one has put two and two together that MSU has been using Thunderstruck to come onto the field for over a decade. We're the leaders and best. This canned music is absolutely horrendously bad.

Today was terrible on music, I would like for them to try and change songs every week. I just can't deal with The White Stripes, Journey, and Metallic for the rest of the season and by that I mean I'll deal with it but I really won't like it.
