I think we can win 4 of those.
people responding to this question in other threads that you had to get them to do it here?
Hopefully that's where Borges will be coaching next year.
University of Pheonix maybe?
Undefeated at home, 1-2 on the road. Don't know which road game we win but I could see a loss against any of them.
You think we beat Ohio?
Yes. And i think they get shut out against MSU. Wouldn't that just be so Al Borges of them to do?
7-5 if we are lucky.
I think we can win 4 of them as well. I also think we can lose all 6 of them.
I think we can win four for sure, but I don't think it pulls us out of the mediocre spectrum.
I don't consider 9 wins mediocre.
4?? Really after this game I can't see us beating OSU or MSU and honestly I think Nebraska and NW will b a shoot out like this game
You realize the team played really good football made some mistakes and didn't execute 100 but they played well. The coaching was sub par. We had out scored them 24-3 in the second half before holy crap drive. This is a good team but is not good enough to overcome many mistakes while the coaches are calling plays trying to limit them.
You realize those same coaches will be coaching in the upcoming games right?
I don't enjoy watching this team, unlike any other past team.Tired of the turnovers by Gardner, unable to open a hole for the backs, and just struggling every week against shitty teams we should be pounding. Not sure about Funk,Borges, or even Joke at this point.
If this season has shown us anything it's that the Big10 sucks and there's not a single consistent team in the bunch. Wisconsin and Ohio are the best and I actually think Wisconsin is a little better but had to play in Columbus and will probably miss out on the Rose Bowl because of it. There's no telling what will happen in any of our games from this point on.
Wisconsin was getting manhandled in Columbus until we went into Tressel-mode. If you think they're better than OSU, idk man.
Wisconsin was in know way getting manhandled by OSU. That is crazy.
Jared Abbrederis: 10 catches for 207 yards. Single-handedly made the OSU secondary look silly, especially Bradley Roby.
Now, I'm not saying Wisconsin mandhandled OSU or anything like that, but that game was surely not a one-sided affair.
we are more likely to lose any one of our remaining games and could lose all 6.
We have an unfixable Oline, so we'll suffer down the stretch.
we beat indiana, because i mean...please?
we beat msu, because i mean...plase?
we beat nebraska, because it's at home.
we lose to northwestern, because they're due.
we lose to iowa, because we seem to do that.
we lose to osu, because i mean...obviously.
you say "i mean" alot
You spell "a lot" wrong, a lot.
6-0 bow down in 1.5 months
I would cry laughing if we somehow go 11-1 this season. All the chicken littles would eat so much crow.
That's not happening and I will bet you my life savings
The only data I need is Borges being OC and the body of work against crap teams
I hate this. If we win out, that's great. But it doesn't change the fact that we've played terribly in many areas so far this year. You're judged on the whole body of work, not just the second half. Not even just W's and L's. Most fans on this site are saavy enough to know what constitutes good football and progress, and many are right to be critical after shit like tonight (and after Akron and after UConn). What don't people like you understand about that?
I think people are rightly pissed off at Funk. If the O Line does not show considerable improvement halfway through next year then I think we pull a Wisco and let it ride. The reason I say that time frame is the O Line is still very young although Magnusson showed some things yesterday and next year is when we will have a lot of still young but talented O linemen that should take a huge step forward. They will all be at least redshirt freshmen and many of them will be redshirt sophomores. We should be able to get a solid enough line out of that and if we don't then a coach needs to go.
What I will say about Borges and Hoke is that by now they should know one of if not the greatest weaknesses of our team is the interior O line so why the heck do we keep running at them expecting different results?
1-5 or 2-4 IF the Hoke and Borges keep insisting on manball/running into eight in the box.
At least 4-2 if they adjust to our personel and keep flinging it at Funchess.
Funchess, he of the two dropped TD passes, is the entire key to our season.
In before the delete and everyone continues to freak out
I doubt everything that is optimistic about our outlook. Currently, I need more beer.
Currently, I need more beer.
This is the only thing that has made sense tonight, thank you sir
We lose one of Indiana and Iowa, win one of Nebraska, MSU, and NW. Lose to Ohio. I was optomistic up until tonight, but it's clear we have no run game at all, and Gardner isn't the type of QB that can reliably carry the load. We saw two more new OL tonight and already benched another, so it's not like there are options to try to find something that works. Our D will keep us in some games, but ultimately not being able to run will lose us 4 of the 6 remaining.
I'm not a coach or anything but when your tailback has 20 carries and is averaging 0.6 yards a carry and only seemed to have 2 carries for over 1 yard it's time to try something different. I really think Funk lost his job today if not the last month. This is as unacceptable as Gergs defenses where
agree, running game kills us, we are no different than last year.
Fitz is the new Smith.
Fred Jackson needs to retire.
These backs run like they wear glass cleats.
I'm not really one to call for a coach's head, but changed my mind about Funk after this game. I can't remember a Michigan team that was to a man so completely inept at run blocking.
He won't be fired. He might deserve to be fired, but he won't be.
We are so easy to defend. Just load up the box to stop the run. Borges will oblige. Then wait for Gardner to implode on 3rd and 12.
I'm still hoping for an 8 win season and think it is very attainable. Just need to fire everyone and replace our entire team with 100 Jabrill Peppers
Replace the team with high school kids?
is quietly having second thoughts. I think we can wave goodbye to Hand.
We go 8-4 with losses @MSU, @Northwestern, and home to Ohio State. We win against Indiana, steal one from Nebraska, and win @Iowa.
Need more information, is Borges still the O coordinator for all of these games?
The first year was an abberation we will lose at least 4 games per year for as long as Borges is our OC.
One more win, if Michigan gets lucky. Beating Ohio and MSU is not happening. I may need to move out of Michigan. I can't stand the MSU fans anymore.
And a massacre against Ohio
Another year, another crappy season
Alternating Wins and Losses over the next 6. We end up 8-4.
Pain. My prediction is pain
The B1G sucks. If we lock Borges in a broom closet before each game, we could get to Indy. We do still control our own destiny.
They're going to god damned win 9 games.
That is all.
I'm personally looking forward to 2016 when we go back to a god damned statue at quarterback and the 8 4 star linemen recruited over the last couple of years are seniors/juniors etc. etc.
Michigan can probably hit 4 more wins, although I wouldn't be shocked if they lost to Ohio (which was a total homer pick anyway). Really though, I have no clue. A team this young and inconsistent, I wouldn't be entirely shocked if they went 0-6 or 6-0. Still a year away from greatness.
I predict the board melts down at least twice more this season.
Wins against IU, Nebraska and Iowa. Losses to Sparty, NU and OSU. If you made me choose an over/under on 3-3, I'd take the under. Not seeing how we win the projected losses. Can definitely see us blowing one of the projected wins.
After the way this season has started would a loss to any of the teams left on our schedule surprise you?
maybe IU and Iowa...but I'm not willing to say I am confident in those picks either. We will probably lose every road game as this is a stunning 4-5 in B1G road games.
6-6 sounds about right
Right now? I say 2 wins.
lost to Indiana by 20
We are nowhere near a good football team. Can't stop turning the ball over, no offensive line, possibly the worst in the Big 10 behind Purdue, and a D line that just isn't that much better.
Capable of winning all of those games, but there's no way I'd place a bet on which ones they pull off. We are capable of losing all of those game, still wouldn't bet.
Just hope the Tigers go deep so we have something else to think about.
Don't know why people would be disappointed at this point either. Most of Lloyd's yrs were not far off this (in win totals), it is way better than the RR era, and as long as Big Al is around, probably close to the norm into the future. Furthermore, seeing how deficient this team is in so many ways, getting 8 wins would be an accomplishment.
I don't see much difference from being last.
This team has structural problems that may take a few years and more good recruiting classes to fix.
Realistically we should beat Indiana at home. Toss ups may be IA and NU. I just think NE, MSU, OSU are too physical for our team to beat. Of course if the offense gets hot and Gardern goes on a throwing tear we could win most of these games but I think we only win at most two more games. Good enough for a 7-5 record which will be one game less than my 8-4 prediction.
Ugh, honestly I don't see more than three wins in there. If we play our best game, we will probably still lose to ohio and at MSU and NW. We could lose to any of Iowa, Indiana, and Nebraska, too. There are no more gimmes.
2-4 for a final record of 7-5. I think we somehow squeak out a win against Indiana, handedly beat Iowa, and then lose the rest. Not being pissy after a loss, it's what I truly see coming after watching the last 4 games.
Handle losing to Msu? Really? We can't get back to that. Hoke's finally raised our expectations from the RR tenure. Where we are now expecting to win games- but we've got to show up.
One huge plus for this staff is they came in right away willing to work with the RR recruits as opposed to saying "well, we're doing this and that's that". Since coming back off the ledge, realistically I'm seeing an 8-4 season... Should bounce back against Indiana and get the train moving again... We get that bye week right before Sparty which allows us to get two full weeks of preparation of them... Hopefully something will have changed on offense to where the defense isn't put in garbage field position to try and prevent points.
I think we'll beat Indiana, because its Indiana. Beyond that, we could lose every single one of those games. Hell, we could even lose to Indiana. Our secondary is going to get shredded next weekend.
Indiana - W
MSU - L (MSU might not score a ton of points, but god that game could get really ugly. Narduzzi will have a field day on our O-Line)
Northwestern - L
Nebraska - W, but only because its at home and Nebraska always falls apart in big road games. Kind of like us....
Iowa - L, another ugly, ugly game against a team we are infinitely more talented than. Road woes continue.
OSU - L, if we play at all in this game like we did today or over the past few weeks, then this game is already over. Meyer wouldn't hesitate for one second to hang 90 on us if he could. He'll be the guy that starts going for 2 after he's already up by 50. Even if we play our best game, I think they'd still beat us at this point.
They may beat us because we are not good. But OSU will get creamed by AL or OR if they make it undefeated.
So what? At least they got something to show for..what do we have? Ohh yea " A Michigan Man" as a coach
I'm just perpetually disappointed
Our personnel is better than this. It has to be. We need a long mirror and we have to assess what we have and use it. If we cannot run the ball between the tackles. ...then stop doing it. Beat Indiana. Beat Sparty...we are then right back in track. The whole staff needs to get there head from the seat of their pants and make this look like Michigan is supposed to look. This season has been a real disappointment thus far. Good news is that we have our goals in front of us and nobody is unbeatable. We will have to play out of our minds against Ohio...but that is the effort that will be expected given thay game. Michigan can still have a really great season. It starts with hard self evaluation. There are some staff changes on the horizon if they dont look better in these next few weeks.
Indian...win because of this gut wrenching loss.
MsU....win. Just an even matchup...we catch a break.
NW....win...they are worse than us.
Nebraska...win. We are at home.
Iowa....win. Playing our best ball at right time.
OHio....win. We play the game of our lives.
B1G title game....loss. Reality sets back in.
I haven't seen anything ouside of the ND game that would make me think it's likely we'll win any more B1G games.
"This Gators defense is Ballin'" #GatorNation
Thats a little unsettling. We need to puck our shit up. Indiana is a win if Hoke truly loves his job. The MSU game is our make or break game this season.
Jesus Christ people get off the fucking ledge
I know where you're coming from, but even an objective, realistic UM fan has to be scared as hell about the rest of the schedule. What reason do we have for optimism? We have dodged bullets against craps teams so far this year and finally faced one that wasn't quite so crappy. What will happen against the decent teams that are coming next?
The OL is the root cause of most of the problems we've had so far, and it isn't going to get better overnight. No ability to run or pass protect with any consistency spells more ugliness.
I'll go Win vs IU
Somehow pull a win over Nebraska
Lose on the road to NU and Iowa, lose at home to Ohio.
8-4 sounds just right, which means going to a New Years Day bowl against an SEC team we have little to no shot against.
If I had to do this right now, just based on how other teams seem to match up against us, I would go with Indiana, Iowa and Nebraska being rather winnable. Michigan State and Northwestern would be a good each way bet - if we can play those mistake-free and exploit the known weaknesses well, we win. Right now, even in light of last night, Ohio State might be the only game I walk into scratching my head thinking, "I don't know...", but obviously, there is still plenty of football (and time to work on things) between now and then.
Our entire offense is Denard, er, I mean Devin.
He is consistent in his inconsistency. So he will have at least one more out-of-body-ND-experience game where he plays out of his mind and we'll knock off somebody big.
Of course, he'll also crash and burn the rest of the games.
3 more wins, that's it.
No more wins for us, we are the worst.
of you say we lose to MSU. I we beat Iowa, MSU and we should beat Indiana but I like our odd against MSU and Iowa more then indiana. we play bend to break D but flop against passing teams with it.
Losing in 4 OTs at Penn State won't change that.
job Borges etc etc We could lose the balance of the season. W against Indy ?. They spanked Penn. St.
The team looks like the 3 stooges right now. I feel like RR is running the show again. We need another bye week.
The_Knowledge disappears until September, when he or she will soar again. Also, Hoke pooped poop.
But the truth is there is no reason to predict that we will win any of our remaining games. We almost certainly will, mathematically speaking, but the only good game we've played is ND, so that should be viewed as the outlier, not the norm.
Our body of work speaks for itself and I'm going to say that we win three because most of our opponents are equally average. The one game we have almost no chance to win is OSU. They are better at every position (save linebacker) and have a coach who is infinitely creative and flexible on offense, unlike ours. And I hate Urban Meyer.
"...and have a coach who is infinitely creative and flexible on offense, unlike ours."
And THAT'S what I fucking hate!! We're the exact opposite! Last night was like I was back watching Lloyd except with much less overall talent! I just do not get it. Why the fuck do you continue to do things that are so utterly predictable and doomed for failure!! We need a major upgrade at OC. Up until this game I was in support of Borges, but this game completely changed my mind. We're the reincarnation of Lloydball in every sense of the word. Terrible, just terrible.
Never make predictions within 6 days after a tough loss or big win. It's unreal how fickle sports fans are, and we're certainly no exception.
Not adjusting my expectations yet. Didn't see a loss here but maybe this is 'Iowa '11' for the team. If M had been well beaten and thoroughly out played, then I'd be worried. But this was a bedshitting. Something that happened once in 32 games under Hoke and probably won't happen again.
IU - W
@MSU - U/D
Neb - W
@NU - U/D
@iowa - W
OSU - L
Tend to think they'll split those 2 tough aways. Just don't know how, yet.
8-9 wins. I think we beat Indiana. I think the MSU game is a toss-up, we do have a bye right before it, but until Hoke gets his team ready for a road game and actually wins one, I think we lose. State looks better but still have obvious holes. IF gardner can be turnover free, i think we could steal one from MSU. I think we beat Nebraska, lose to NW, lose to Ohio, and Iowa, really, could we lose to Iowa? I could see a VERY close win.
optimist all season saying 11-1. I will continue to be optimistic and say 9-3. Still this will be a disappointing season. Hoke can't continually day the season is a failure unless we win the B1G champinship and not produce. He is failing, period. This is year 3 and he hasn't even sniffed a division title. He has been horrid in road games. Changes need to be made on that coaching staff. If he refuses to make them he needs to go. At least the RR teams were showing progress year to year.
Let's not go crazy now... while the offense improved, RR's defenses got worse by leaps and bounds each season.
The road record under Hoke is abysmal, when you consider we haven't beaten a single team on the road that's been better than .500 during the regular season.
I just hope O'Brien can produce a game just like today's against ohio. Someone has to knock those twats out of the top 5. Purdue and Illinois aren't going to do it.
Yeah if he does, Ohio only wins by 28
I can't be fucked to draw up remotely positive scenarios for this squad anymore. We just got dominated in the trenches by Akron, UConn, and now Frat Boy Walkon U. 27 carries, 27 yards rushing. At this point there is no excuse in the world to justify such dysfunction and fuckery on offense.
Maybe with the way Hoke can recruit, by 2015 we'll execute like teams as such UCF, Indiana and Temple.
Anyway when does hoops season start?
If the coaching staff is now in for legitimate criticism—which I think it is—there's no reason that the S&C staff should be immune. We don't appear to have any obvious advantages in strength, speed, or conditioning than any of our opponents, including Akron and UConn. We have guys who are more talented athletically perhaps, but their talents seem to be consistently neutralized—or neutered, if you prefer—by teams with supposedly lesser talent.
Denard-like rate, we will be lucky to win ONE game. If Borgess continues to call games like yesterday...and Gardner continues to prove he is color blind, we lose all six.
Either way, at best we win 8 because IU is dreadfull, Sparty is Sparty and Nebraska is led by Pelini. We can't beat Ohio unless their two deep all gets injured between now and then.
It's really sad that we sign all these high 4-star and a couple of 5-star recruits and they are getting turned into 3-stars by members of this staff. It reminds me a lot of the Carr years. The staff would rave about some safety or linebacker only to have them get burned time and time again and the team couldn't tackle anyone or cover a receiver tight.
That crap last night in the last minute of regulation and the entire OT was just stupid. Where did the play for a field goal or run out the clock mentality come from? We were supposed to be better than them, we have 20 more scholarship players than they do! The players can't execute and the coaches can't manage to put them in a position where they can execute. We got beat by a true freshman and a defense that gave up a ton of yards and points to Indiana.
The next 6 weeks will be very scary.
So were Nick Saban's in year three... He won a National Title that year because he is an elite coach.
is that 2011 might be Hoke's apex at Michigan.
My preseason prediction was 9-3. We're closer to going 6-6 than 9-3.
See, this is the ridiculous kind of comment people are making to creep further toward the ledge. Not just you, the board in general. We're 5-1 and you say 6-6 is more likely than 9-3? With the games remaining you really see 1-5 more easily than 4-2? (edited for poor math skills)
This fanbase couldn't survive another coaching search for at least 5 more years. I wish we had grabbed Cam Cameron when we had the chance though (OC).
Loss: NU, MSU & OSU
Win: Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska
Now, given data for a 5-1 start, still seems pretty reasonable to say that we expect the above given:
Inability to play well on road
Gardner being our single great offensive talent
Protecting defensive secondary (bend don't break)
The question is whether this team folds after this or comes back and learns from it and both the coaches and the players do better. I don't know which way this goes, and neither do any of you. We can only watch and see. You and I will find out a lot about the coaches on this team based on how they finish this year and how much they know about coaching and motivating and teaching and disciplining and supporting players.
Let's face it. We are a 7-5, 8-4 football team like usual. Long gone are the days of being "Michigan."
We are now a program that scrapes to 8 wins, has tough matchups with the MAC and FCS opponents, and shows no sign of changing that anytime soon.
It really sucks agreeing with you, but..... I do,
3-3 is the best we can expect. I'll go with 2-4 with Indiana as the best bet followed by IA. I highly doubt wins over state or ohio
Honestly, 5-1 or 4-2... Staee is a must win if we want to get to the B1G Championship... Yes the B1G Championship is still a possibility... Better beat Indiana and Iowa or we have no business competing for a B1G title... NW doesn't scare too much anymore as they looked terrible against Wisconsin. Hopefully we have a strong showing against Nebraska, and Ohio still looks beatable... We still have some serious issues on the offensive line, but we still have so much talent in Gardner, Fitz, Gallon, Chesson, Dileo, and Funchess. Defense looked encouraging in the second half, but major issues need to be addressed with the secondary.
There is too much talent on offense and defense to count these guys out this early... Now coaching is a different story. Borges and Funk need to get their acts together if we want to get even remotely close to 5-1 and a B1G Championship. Playcalling and turnovers are what will need to change if we want to finish this season strong.
Fergodsakes, it's long past time that we should look at another team on the schedule and confidently pronounce that they don't scare anybody. Or have you forgotten the confident pronouncements about how depleted Penn State was?
The Akron and UConn games weren't aberrations. They showed what this Michigan team really is: inexperienced at too many positions, mistake-prone, lacking enough difference-makers on all three units, with a coaching staff that's a bit overrated and strangely unwilling to take advantage of an opponent's weaknesses. All of it together is the classic formula for mediocrity.
I can't believe that people are still trying to pencil us in for Indiana like it's a no-brainer win.
DG line - If anyone thinks we are going to lose a game then I don't want them on my team. It doesn't always happen, but never prepare for a loss.
Of course, he also said Borges stayed aggressive in this game down the stretch as well. My mind is all over the place.
At this point, I see 7-5, but 6-6 is a distinct possibility. 5-7 and 8-4 much less likely, but possible I guess. 8-4 is the ceiling.
This was not "the plan" when Hoke was hired. Our record the next few seasons, and ultimately Hoke's job (again, in a few years) will depend on how hard he pushes to keep Funk and Borges. I wonder if he even realizes that....
IU and UNL are the most likely wins to me, and I can see us getting a win at Iowa too. If we beat NW I would be surprised. I don't see us beating Sparty or Ohio. UGH! I hate everything.
2-4 without a miracle of Borges being fired, 4-2 with a miracle of Borges being fired.
This staff still hasn't lost a game at home. The big money backers are cool with that.
That anyone is predicting a win over Indiana. I see one possible win, MAYBE Iowa. The rest are surefire losses.
We could win em all, we could lose em all. More plausible is some wins and some losses. As long as we win 2 of those, it won't feel bro. I believe we all know which 2 we need to win.
Indiana and Iowa - right?
Indiana - Toss up
@MSU - Loss
Nebraska - Toss up (leaning loss)
@Northwestern - Toss up (leaning loss)
@Iowa - Toss up
Ohio State - Loss
So 2-4 or 3-3 the rest of the way is my "optimistic" outlook.
prepare for the NFL
