He gets some money cash. That's why they don't put current players on it. I have no idea how much.
Its Official; Denard wins NCAA football cover vote
Not nearly as much as he deserves, I'm sure. Really gonna miss this kid.
Where can I buy my copy NOW!!?
We now have had a player on every console generation of NCAA Football.
And will people stop saying he's the third cover man? He is the fourth. Walter Smith on the Genesis, Woodson on 99, Howard on 06 and Denard on 14.
What a great find!
The fix was in
Can someone please start a Gardner 2015 campaign?
I 'd rather have Devin eligible for the 2014 season.
Denard just won the cover for 2014...
The joke was if Gardner is on the 2015 cover, he wouldn't be eligible for 2014 season.
I was thinking you were talking in video game years. lol. 2015 cover = eligible in 2013-14 seaon, but not 2014-15 season. I get what you're saying now.
Check out the Michigan Photo Store for the Denard photo from the EA Sports cover...
I don't even play video games, but for some reason this contest became personal. Way to go Denard.
Pay my man!! Seriously though could not have a better ambassador of the sport. May the Denard mythos live on...
Kork Coupons. I love you.
Until proven otherwise, I am going to assume it was my vote that put him over the top.
We Trident'ed 'em!
That would only count as one vote...
It's so unfair that they didn't include me in the vote, I was only doing rabies!
Haven't bought an NCAA FB game since Desmond graced it. And that was for PS2. Wonder how that winged helmet looks on my 360 that (unfortunately) is simply collecting dust.
The man loves branding and getting the Michigan out there and what is better than getting it for free. This can also be a big recruiting advantage. Not saying the coaches are going to bring it up, but how many of those kids are going to have that game in hand and see the winged helmet on the front. It's all about exposure.
Until next year to buy it since that's (presumably) the first time they'll have playoffs in it, but I guess I'll have to buy it this year too now. Go Denard! Go blue!
Good for him. Congrats.
Awesome, good for him. Now that he's on the cover and everyone knows what he looks like, can EA include his dreads in the game this time?
He won't be in the game. Devin will be the QB and will probably have a pretty high rating.
Granted I'm on the phone app so I cant see who down voted, it could have been potentially a Sparty or Ohio fan. They tend to linger around here.
I usually buy it every two or three years, but looks like I'm getting a new game this year!!
I got 11 and got 13 as a gift and was waiting for 15 for the four team playoff, but I guess I'll be getting it three years in a row. Denard is worth the $60.
Havent bought a ncaa game in forever but def buying this
... to Mr. Robinson and the UM supporters... I feel that this is a pretty cool ordeal. This is something to be proud of, as he represents his school, conference, and college football as a whole. I proudly wear the scarlet and gray, but Denard always seemed like a quality individual; one, who has earned my respect. Wolverine fans, please enjoy the fact that each time I play my favorite video game, I will have to physically grab a case that bears the maize and blue and have to deal with that. Best of luck in March...
I haven't bought one in awhile, but I will be buying this one as soon as it hits the shelves!
When the alternative is putting Swope on the cover and selling half (exaggeration) as many games, yes I think they'll deal with a few butt-hurt sparties and buckeyes. As far as the ND fans go, no one, including EA, likes them, so they don't care what they think.
Was the vote between Denard and a TAMU guy? That doesn't sound like a "regional" thing to me.
Can't wait for next year's vote.
Happy for Denard he deserves it more than Swope
before you shoot the messenger please hear me out from what OSU and other big fans seem to think about Denard. I'd like to get the average Michigan fans take...here's what I hear a lot:
People outside of the mich bubble don't seem to see that although Denard was a great athlete, he was basically a kick returner playing QB. As much as most UM fans love him, mainly for providing all their offense, he really slowed the their offense's growth by 2-3 years.
They sat their best QB, by far, for years and put him at wide-out, and didn't implement the pro-style that the new coaches were comfortable with... once Denard was a junior and hadn't become substantially better at passing, there was no reason for Hoke (who was just coming in) not to switch back to the pro-offense.
I think a combination of not wanting to upset the fan base who loved Denard was a big part of it...but I don't think UM would've had a much different record his junior yr and I think it could've been better his senior year, if Gardner would've been made the starter and the pro-set was established, with Denard being moved to wideout. Today UM would be going into their 3rd year with the offense they really want, Gardner would be much better at this point, and Denard would probably have developed into a deadly receiver by now as well... but as it stands, UM is heading in to this season trying to fully implement a new offense. (minus some pro-set stuff they mixed in a little last season).
I'll hang up and listen.
Denard was basically the sole reason Michigan stayed relevant to the national sports media while going through five and seven win seasons. For that, I will always thank him. Also, to one of your points, they did quite a bit more pro style stuff last year than you seem to think, so I don't think the transition will be that bad, especially since they ran what they wanted with Gardner for the last half of the season.
What is your take on ohio never having a cover athlete on a EA NCAA game?
Kind of amazing schools like Boise State with Jared Zabransky and Utah with Brian Johnson who have done nothing after college. Zabransky didn't even go into the NFL.
I'm getting old (41)...haven't played football video games since Tecmo Bowl days...so I had no idea OSU hadn't made the cover of EA.
Braxton did get the national cover of SI, but not sure how I feel about that with the whole curse thing.
That's an argument. But going into his junior season and his first season with the new coaching staff, Denard was coming off breaking all kinds of records in his first season as a starter, and Gardner never really impressed as a QB in the offseason. Michigan didn't have any proven RB or any real playmakers at WR, so it made sense to stick with Denard as the focal point of a spread run offense.
Since Denard is no longer a NCAA player can he profit off his image being used by EA? I would assume he could be this is the NCAA we are talking bout. Also Congrats Denard
That's the only reason current players can't be on it. They have to be compensated for their image and that would be against NCAA rules.
is a classic:
[EDIT: using more unnecessary words
to see if moving the picture down will
cancel the slimming effect.]
[Nope. For full un-squished picture that does him justice, use the link in the OP.]
No way EA could have gone with the TAMU guy whose name I, along with probably most CFB fans outside of Texas, can't remember.
Much rejoicing about virtualy nothing.
Anyone else really want to see what that A&M fan who was claiming that his inside sources at EA said that Swope was the winner thinks about this?
I don't even have a PS3 but I'll buy one in case he gets royalties based on sales.
That's a great cover and a fitting end for a good student and athlete. Surprised that they keep referring to a "tense" race with Swope considering once the voting discrepancies came to light the difference was still pretty significant.
