item: Kaleb Ringer issues
I got a tip that Kaleb Ringer had gotten the boot from his high school team for disciplinary reasons, and this appears to be true. He's had a recurring issue that was finally too much and he's gotten axed. I don't know if this will change his status as a Michigan commit, but if he decommits at some point in the near future that would be why.
[UPDATE:BISB: Sam Webb just tweeted that Kaleb was not booted. Just sitting with a sprained knee. The plot thickens.]

Why you gotta be bringin' me down man? It's Friday.

were going after one of Sparty's recruits, which initially was assumed to be Burbridge. Further rumors on that rumor later claimed it was a LB commit. This may be why. Paper thin though, all of it.

I don't think they need another LB in this class. They might use the spot elsewhere.
October 21st, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
but what the hell do I know? The coaches seemed to come screaming out of player evaluations, hair alight, chasing anything resembling a LB early in the recruiting cycle. Losing the kid we were all so excited about and is now at Okl but shall not be named, then going down another with Ringer, I wouldn't be surprised if they still pursued a LB.

I would take a DT, too.
Ofahengaue is more of a SAM or WDE prospect, so it doesn't really make sense that they would replace a WILL with the 6'4", 205 lb. Ofahengaue.

I agree with giving that potential spot to another position.
Apparently the staff is also on a LB/DE type kid from Utah and he is set to visit for the ohio game.

1. Awesome name or awesomest name ever?
2. Kid is way underrated based on his offers. He lists a top group or Michigan, Florida State, Nebraska, Oregon, and the hometown team Utah. If you knew nothing else about him, that should be a four star lock, right?

1) I wouldn't even know how to pronouce that name. Maybe someone familiar with Samoan pronunciations can help us.
2) He also has offers from Cal, Oregon St., Wash, and Arizona. He might be underrated coming from Utah, but he does have a pretty good offer list.
He also has amazing hair like Troy Polamalu.

Oh the flowing hair, I can't stop looking at it.

don't know if its a common name, but in the early nineties there was a player on the Australian national rugby side, Willie ofenguawe who was originally from Tonga.

1) I don't know that Leviticus Payne will ever be topped. Like ever. I think I'm going to name my kid after him.

Jamal Lyles, LB, Southfield-Lathrup
October 21st, 2011 at 4:38 PM ^
or conjecture (based on the fact that he is the only LB commit not related to a current Spartan)?
October 21st, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
I believe Lyles himself mentioned it to a 247Sports writer a few weeks ago.

Much appreciated

He has offers from MSU(obvi), Iowa, Illinois and Stanford. Not bad for a guy who is a pretty early commit.
October 21st, 2011 at 4:15 PM ^
Thats not good. What exactly are the issues? Behavior, drugs, something of the sort?
October 21st, 2011 at 4:19 PM ^
He's a kid and we don't need to know what's going on in his life.

Take out the trash day.

Well that's a downer for the bye week. Hope the kid straigtens up his life in whatever it is that's getting him in trouble.

Sucks about Ringer though. Hopefully he can get it together.

I need some good news soon...Jordan Payton and a Purdue demolishing maybe???
October 21st, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Well, if UM rescinds Ringer's scholarship offer, at least he'll have Oklahoma waiting to swoop him up...
October 21st, 2011 at 4:24 PM ^
Sunk in a ditch!
I'm not overly concerned though...I hope Hoke does the right thing. Whatever that may be.
October 21st, 2011 at 5:50 PM ^
Some of it itches!!!
October 21st, 2011 at 4:30 PM ^
Hope the kid can resolve his issue(s). If not Hoke knows what to do. Hopefully another cb/wr could be gain. I like the current class of lbers in the class now and don't see a need for someone to replace the kid if,it comes to that.

Are you trying to tell us something in your failure to capitalize the "i" in "item"? As in, this is a minor, lower-case, understated issue? Not reading into it or anything, though. Just wondering.
October 21st, 2011 at 4:40 PM ^
True story here, I was going to ask, where did you hear this? link? then i realized...it was Brian! That's really too bad as I expected him to be a beast, hopefully he will figure it out and be one!
October 21st, 2011 at 4:43 PM ^
Dantonio is not Kaleb Ringer's high school football coach.
I hope he can get his life straightened out. Any chance that these issues are tackling players too hard, and too fast?
October 21st, 2011 at 6:09 PM ^
Very interesting, tell us more.
October 21st, 2011 at 4:47 PM ^
Dantonio is on the phone with him as we speak trying to figure out if the infraction is worthy of the spartans.
October 21st, 2011 at 4:48 PM ^
offer if he got booted off his H.S. team - especially for disciplinary reasons. With the 3 high quality guys in this class left at LB, I'd think we would use the scholly for another position for a top player (another OL, D-back, WR, or even QB if a good one came up).
The reality has now arrived that by signing day, not all of the class we've got commits from so far will be there to sign. This really isn't too surprising. Trying to be optimistic about this development, I'm hoping we can find a really good player to replace him in the class.

I live in the Northmont School District...i have not heard anything about this ...as far as i know he is playing against Wayne tonight
October 21st, 2011 at 4:53 PM ^
Says he is not playing against Wayne tonight due to his knee
October 21st, 2011 at 4:58 PM ^
Whoa ... that'd be the first time that a high schooler bent the truth!
October 21st, 2011 at 5:14 PM ^
But he has been hurt all year. I'm just saying that his explanation isn't out of the blue.
October 21st, 2011 at 7:01 PM ^
If the explanation isn't out of the blue, maybe Kaleb won't be either.
October 21st, 2011 at 7:34 PM ^
di'nt
October 21st, 2011 at 4:56 PM ^
If it really was for disciplinary reasons, better we find out now than after signing day. We've got a ton of good LBs already committed and with this staff I have no doubt they could find another talented recruit to fill the spot.

I hope they do go after another LB, I really like the idea of having some depth at that position going forward. Part of the biggest problem we have had with the D recently is directly related to depth
October 21st, 2011 at 6:17 PM ^
I hope it isn't true about Ringer but either way depth at LB is not a big concern going forward.
Demens and Hawthorne will be seniors next season
Cam Gordon will be a junior.
Mike Jones is a bit of an unknown but will be a junior
M will return 3 soph's who earned decent to significant playing time this season;
Jake Ryan
Desmond Morgan
Brennan Beyer.
Antonio Poole looks to be a redshirt freshman next season
Jordan Paskorz is listed as an LB but I have yet to see him
M will have 3 incoming freshman LB's
Royce Jenkins-Stone
James Ross
Joe Bolden
Linebackers in terms of depth and quality seem pretty solid to me
