It feels like the night before Christmas

Submitted by Webber's Pimp on

Thats right folks. Tomorrow is the day we open up our present (and it's Mitch McGary all wrapped up with a blue bow). It's been a long time coming. I've been following UM Basketball since 1985. The last 13 years have been an absolute nightmare for even the most die hard of UM fans. We've experienced basketball purgatory first hand. I look back at those Daniel Horton teams under Amaker that never made the NCAA's. Or thinking that Lavell Blanchard would be the next Glen Rice. Or the back court of Avery Queen and Gotfredson. Or losing out on Alex Legion only to get him and then lose him again. Or thinking that Petway was the next coming of Harold Miner. Or pinning our front court hopes on the likes of JC Mathis. Or feeling hopeless when Manny Harris opted for the NBA.

Lord knows we've paid our dues. And all of that bad shit finally ends tomorrow. The future has never looked brighter...

That's not really true. For one, Morgan has more of an under-the-basket, true center game than McGary does. If MM comes, expect him in more of a mobile PF role.

More importantly, point guard is the biggest need on this team and it's not really close. The early vibes emanating from Burke are very good but they need to be if we're going to continue momentum this season. We have seen Stu run the point and it's not good.

As Brian stated the real turning point was that State game in January with the big moment when Novak made that four point play. I know what you mean about Manny but he and Deshawn started the revolution. Whatever happens tomorrow Michigan has a lot of momentum. I hope Mitch has decided/decides to come here but in the end I want players to come to Michigan that really want to be here and play not only for themselves but also for each other. Whatever happens Mitch I hope you have a long successful career in college because you couldn't have a better choice of teams and coaches to play for.

And you would be right, the much maligned (as recruits) Zack and Stu were JB's foundation pieces, two recruits where he said to the world the most important thing he looks for is basketball brain and desire.  Yes, the athleticism in recruiting has improved but Novak and Stu have their signatures first on the stone that marks the beginning of the new era.  They are the guys who stuck, who led, who are helping transition the young guys (a benefit they never had).

I want Mitch to go Blue as badly as anyone else but the program is roaring forward with or without him.  This team made the NCAA with 3 freshmen, a sophomore and Novak and Douglass.  It's nearly insulting to pretend their fortunes are in the lap of any recruit.

Slow down. As stated above, no one knows anything for sure yet. Let's get his decision, get him dressed and on the court before we start heralding the start of a new era with Mitch bobbleheads and angels singing and pooping maize-colored basketballs that smell like roses and taste like soup.

I'm smoking the fattest blunt ever with Mitch right now, and he just said he's picking Duke because he doesn't want to play for a program that counts their chickens before they're hatched.

It's starting to feel to me like the night before Christmas when you spend all night writing down the video games and the transparent purple controller you're going to get for your birthday next month because you just know you're getting that N64 tomorrow with the standard controllers and Mario Kart and Goldeneye, but your best friend already has like 12 games so you have to quickly upgrade your library.  Then you wake up and you got Yoshi Story for Super Nintendo.

What I'm trying to say is, please let this subject marinate tomorrow without anymore jinxing.  I think we've successfully jinxed the jinx that originally jinxed jinxing the announcement, which leaves us currently with no jinx. Hold it together.

Webbers Pimp, I liked your little history lesson. The only thing I don't agree on is Petway being the nexy Minor. Minor sucked and was terrible. So Petway was Minor...wait Minor was a guard. Yeah so that was the only fail.. and jumping the gun. But I enjoyed the rest.
