Irvin Vs Walton on NBA TV (Summer League)

Heat playing at the Magic in the Summer League right now. Game is on NBA TV. Irvin got the start, played 11 minutes and had one three in the first half. Walton Jr. played 9 minutes with two points.

definitely looks like he belongs. Always thought he would have a role in the NBA, doesn't force anything and is a dangerous catch and shoot player. The release may be too slow, that is the only thing that would keep him from at least being a solid backup PG IMO.

Irvin on the other hand looks bad. Form on his shot looks awful from 3 pt range and looks like it will not translate. Hopefully he can defend and rebound better than he did in college. Otherwise, I don't see it happening.

Walton looks comfortable and has played well (and he's getting a lot of love from the announcers). I know the argument is that Irvin would have to make it on his defensive abilities, but he looks bad out there.

but with how he's playing on offense, he has to have a Jonathan Isaac level impact on D and he just isn't even capable of that on his best day. Sad to see from such a high level recruit. But he will still be making good money playing basketball somewhere in the world, and has a UM degree. Proud of him and what he put into the UM basketball program

It was great seeing Irvin end his up and down career on a positive note.  But I don't see his game improving much and can't imagine him getting any real shot at the NBA.  He just doesn't have the game.  Hopefully, he can find somewhere to play but it won't be the NBA.  He's always got his Michigan degree as well.

Hoping Walton can make a team and have a relevant career.  It will also be tough for him, but he's got a fighting chance.

Don't judge him off one bad game shooting from 3.

He's started and played 20+ minutes in both games, so they clearly want to see a lot of him.  The second game (against Orlando), he went 2-4 FG (1-2 from 3) and was the only player on the team with a positive +/- despite playing the majority of minutes.  Meaning that in his 25 min they outscored Orlando by 4, in the other 15 minutes of the game, his team was outscored by 17!!

Zak plays hard, he plays pretty smart and he's a very good, versatile defender.  He thrived in his corner gunner role as a freshman at Michigan.  He could find his way onto a roster as a 3 and D guy if that's his only offensive responsibility (remember he hit 42.5 percent as a freshman) and he can play good D.

He will be brought on somewhere for a 2-way contract. Looked like he was the best player on the court most of the game and absolutely crossed a few guys. Something I noticed was anytime he and Perrantes(UVA version of Walton) were on the court together, Walton got the ball to bring up and start the offense. Definitely a coaches decision.

that Costello and Kalin Lucas are starting for Orlando.  Costello seems to be playing pretty well and nice to see D Walt outplay Lucas and end up with more minutes.
