irrational rationale

Submitted by bluefrombirth on

I had a conversation about the way the 2011 big ten season would shake out with a sparty fan today. I proffered that next years wolverine squad would win at least 9 games. He replied that he would be surprised if they won seven. I gave the reasons that it would be 9 wins as improved offense from all the skill positions which will be returning. with minimal losses in the o line with improved play from the defense ( come on seriously, dilithium 1.5 is good for at least 9, hes been good for 7 so far) at which point he laughed and said that we no one good on defense. he offered the reason that Michigan would not better is because the schedule gets harder. the addition of Nebraska does give his argument some merit. the real kicker was that he claimed the Irish would be a top ten Team next year ????? Of course after my shock i asked him why he figured that. He answered with a familiar tag line. Their quarterback will be better, they have offense returning, they were crippled by injuries, and their defense was young, but should get better. Of course i did not continue the conversation because it is quite easy to see that the logic was one-sided. the irish were bad because of the aforementioned reasons, but should be better for next year. Yet somehow, the wolverine team of 2010 that has all of these same things in common will not be better? the overall idea is that the young inexperienced defense is a reason to cripple your team, yet give some sense of relief because you realize that that defense will grow up and become the team they are meant to be. Alot of opinions on here have been negative towards some of the players, i believe they have tremendous upside. Especially Cam ( don't let the tight end get behind you) Gordon. T hat guy is a ball player. For someone that was a wide out 7 months ago i think hes doin a helluva job on defense. And while im on my soap box F@#k Harbaugh, RRod is my coach and he better be the coach next year. Neg me if you want, i didnt proof read or check the grammar, and i dont want 3 yards and a cloud of dust. I love Bo, but i like spreadriguez even more.

on a side note, i don't care about all the grammar nazification. this is a sports blog, no one is angling for a research grant here. If you don't like my writing style ( or lack thereof ) Don't read my post.

At least 9 wins next year, and national championship contention (including a win over Alabama in Jerry Jones-ville) the year after.

Way to hold your ground.  Sometimes there is no understanding sparty-logic.

lol funny 2 points for you sir...not really. When i am not writing in the blogosphere on the interwebs my papers are actually riveting and quite well written...but this is the intranets, not a dissertation.

i would like to introduce a new term into the lexicon for self important a holes. i beleive that douchebag and ass clown are overused and inappropriate for a certain class of individual. You sir have earned the distinction of being the first in a new category, you are a " cardboard applicator" thats right the working end of a tampon that gets thrown out after use. Good day sir.

Let's review:

1.  Never assume you can have a logical debate with a MSU fan.

2.  Ever...

3.  Schedule does get harder, for both teams.

4.  Notre Dame will be a Top Ten team next year - in South Bend.

5.  All points probably true, but could also be true of Michigan.

6.  Finally!  Common sense prevailed and you ceased discussion.

7.  Many of our players should have upside - how much is the question.

8.  I think Harbaugh gets enough action without your offer - but that is up to you.

9.  Rodriguez will probably be our coach next year, unless disaster strikes.

10.  Glad you approve of our coach!!!

Finally, I agree with your last point - it is a Maize and Blue world out there.

How guys who are still defending Rodriguez say it is impossible to argue logically with a Sparty.

Seriously, guys, we are crying about an alleged choplock order from Don Beilema, are getting our asses handed to us by anyone with a pulse (remember when MGoPosters and Scouties were telling the world how good UMass was LOLZ), and we are still making excuses for a coach who is about to be on his third DC in four years--yet EVERYONE ELTS is a bunch of crazy, non-football understanding idiots.

What makes a guy with a gillion points any more credible on the intranets? Isn't this a message board, open to opinion and discussion?

Oops, I guess some of us didn't get the memo that you have to have your opinions formed by Brian, Mispogon and Chunkums T. Clown in order to talk about Michigan sports.

I like your enthusiasm, but I like white space even more.  If 500 points was required to start threads, would we get all posters who write in paragraphs?

Here is a quick primer for those who can't figure out when to do a paragraph break.  Read the post to yourself aloud.  Every time you have to breathe, hit the enter key.  It won't look like Hemingway, but it will at least make your post more readable.

1. The schedule also gets harder for Sparty next year. They play at Ohio State, at Nebraska and at Iowa. Good-bye, 10 Win Season.

2. I am not optimistic about our defensive improvement next year. A) If GERG remains at U-M, issues with scheme will continue; if there's a new DC, players will be adjusting to the new scheme. B) After 11 games this year, there has not been the kind of improvement one would expect from players getting experience playing at this level; more practice will help some, but we're likely going from DEATH to merely "bad".

3. If DB decides to throw in the towel, go for broke, and hire a completely new coaching staff, all bets are off entirely. There will be both new offensive and defensive schemes, likely the wrong players for both, and three more years of inestimable sadness.
