I guess...they ARE still very funny. It's just not quite the same. I had good ideas too.. "When I read the thread title, I thought I was going to be linked to an article about Charlie Weis' 2nd attempt at a gastric bypass surgery" or... "...I thought the South Bend McDonald's had named a new sandwich that was essentially 4 Big Mac's tied together with 12 pieces of bacon the "Irish Meltdown" in honor of Charlie's everyday lunch." the jokes really write themselves.

This really is not that different than comments by Michigan fans about Rrods ability to recruit athletes and get his kind of players (especially on offense). Some people buy it, some don't.

Agreed. This looks eerily similar to some of the posts about Drew Dileo after he committed. I, personally, trust the coaches not to waste scholarships. Other people trust the recruiting sites and didn't like the offer. It is what it is. Fact is, some guys are under rated, some are over rated, and we won't know who is what until they get on campus.

...but on mgoblog, the majority of the comments are usually in support of RR and the kids he recruits. Of what I could stomach over there, which was about the first twenty posts, there was only one post defending the offer. If mgoblog looks like anything close to that, Brian stops the thread and sometimes does a 24 hour moratorium on commenting. To give credit where credit is due, though, the line "is English your second language" was pretty funny.

They sound just like Michigan fans after the RR hire. Soon they will fall into the, "Our coach knows what he is doing" category like we have. Or maybe they are free thinkers and won't be trapped by that meme.

The establishment you continue to be a part of. If you were really interested in being anti-establishment, you'd go start an anti-RR blog to point out how wrong the mindless masses are. You're like the guy sitting in starbucks complaining about the evils of multinational corporations.

Not at all. You can be skeptical and raise questions and a lot people have on this board. It's what makes this board worth visiting. Have you considered that the "negs" that you consider groupthink are reactions against the tone of your posts more than the substance of your posts? For instance, in this thread you've implied that people who disagree with the substance of your posts are automatically mindless sheep (twice now). Is it possible that they're independent thinkers like yourself, they just disagree with you? I think you can totally be skeptical of RR based on what you perceive to be the lack of results the last two years. Just don't assume that those that disagree with you are just following a mob mentality as a mass. It's disrespectful to all of us on the blog and annoying to boot.

It's not exactly unusual for this to happen when you have a regime change. The new coach comes in and it's not like he can make up a year's worth of work in a week. So he continues to recruit the guys that he has a relationship with. You salvage the class as best you can and then you start working on the juniors. If, a year from now, he's still battling William and Mary for recruits...then it's time to melt down and pitch a fit. They're pissed because he didn't go get some five-star recruit that he's never met before?

Thanks for sharing some of this hilarity with us:
He (Heggie) might have been a great fit at GVSU. *
When has Kelly showed the ability to coach at this level?
Just another example of why NCAAF fanbases should relax a little with the recruiting obsession. The quicker these Irish fans realize they are in no way qualified to evaluate football talent the more rational they'll become.

While I can't stand their fans, that annoying Leprechaun and the overall gingerness of their coeds, I hope that Kelly does well there (but not against us.) Let's face it - there are a lot of similarities between them and us, and it seems that the overall college football world hates them like they hate us. Yes, they are living in the past, but I'd like to see them get back to prominence....if only because that W against them every year would look that much better.

how 1 recruit or lost game can cause so much hate and anger in a fan base (we have experienced the same, so I'm not just talking about ND). That recruit, Heggie is like a hated kid on those forums. They should at least trust their new coach on this one.

But honestly this isn't much different than the conversations we have here, or (i'm guessing) the conversations on every fan board other than Texas and Florida this year. The locals actually seem very confident about the coming year. They've somehow convinced themselves that their 6-6 swiss-cheese-defense-equiped team will somehow get better in the first year under a new system, despite losing their 3-year starting quarterback, best receiver, 4-year starting tackle, and both safeties (remind you of a certain fan base in '08?). Maybe Irish can dissuade me, but I get the feeling that the confidence in ND Nation stems from a feeling that the coaching was the one thing holding the team back for the last... um... 13 years. (P.S. Nice post title; )

I enjoyed how various posts included only the title, but you totally saw how the conversation progressed: So they all watched his film eh? *->You are fucking dense. *->And you just like to rant. *

My favorite part of the meltdown:
Why WOULD any top player come to Notre Dame? Putting aside academics, which I grant you is a big deal for some, is there anything ND can offer that the other elites can't (bearing in mind that Florida, Texas, and SC are all top state schools as well)?

Location? Weather? Girls? NFL prospects? Fun, collegial atmosphere?

If Notre Dame didn't have its incredible tradition (which its administration is doing its best to destroy) would ANY top recruit even sniff at us?
Indeed.
