Iowa looks impressive tonight. Is it a case of Iowa being that good or Penn State being unchallenged? Iowa's front four have dominated PSU the entire game. The interesting part is that they are all fairly small and agile yet not being pushed around in the least. Two weeks from now could be a challenge.
an open thread where you can engage people watching the games with this question:
As for your question, Iowa is good.
This is purely speculative, but doesn't it seem like there's always one team that can beat Penn State that's not supposed to? Iowa these past two years, and Michigan before that. Almost looks like a pattern.
I believe Iowa has won 7 of the last 8 from Penn State. That'll leave a mark. Same team that required two blocked FG's to beat Northern Iowa at home.
Should be a tough game once we get past little brother.
Ferentz owns Joe Pa!
I'm thinking mid 20's. Your move AP.
Iowa just beat the #5 ranked team in the country in an away game, while we struggled with Indiana at home. Last week Iowa beat another BCS team (Arizona). They will almost certainly jump us. If Houston wins against TTU, I have us at 21 and Iowa at 18. If Houston loses, I have us both moving up one more spot to 20 and 17. The interesting question is how far will PSU fall? I think they will fall below Iowa but ahead of us.
I want Iowa to be ranked high enough to feel the pressure. It does scare me how strong Iowa's front seven were. It will be the first big test of the year for our running game with a banged up OL.
The bad news is Iowa's defensive line, but I think we can run on them if we focus on running laterally instead of between the tackles. Hopefully, their D-line will get tired by the second half. Rolling Tate out will also help him avoid the pass rush.
The good news is that Iowa does not seem to have an explosive, high scoring offense. They are only scoring 25 PPG versus our nearly 38 PPG.
Iowa will definitely be favored, but it is a game we can win with the right game plan. We also need to stay healthy. Oh, yeah, and learn to snap the ball without Molk.
I can't believe that is the same team that SHOULD have lost to Northern Iowa. And two weeks from now we have to play a night game against them at THEIR place? With our defense? Oy.
I was kind of glad to see Penn State go down. They shouldn't have been ranked that high. LOVED the aflac trivia question. Which coach has the most ever victories against JoePa? Many thought it was Kurt Ferentz but it's Lloyd Carr with 9 wins.
I wish I could just run a script to +1 any time I read a post by you because you are the absolute King of YouTube.
Since I can't: +1
C'mon, back me up MGoBloggers
King of YouTube? I like it.
Don't misquote me my friend, because I do believe that I said 'Absolute' King of YouTube.
I think Ferentz is second behind Carr with 7 or 8 wins against Big Joe.
has got to be the most boring team to watch, if you're not an Iowa fan. That said, they're tough, disciplined and strong in the trenches. The Iowa game will be much tougher than I thought after week one.
Looked fantastic. I don't know if that's a function of Penn State's offense not being very good or not but they were truly impressive on D.
