I've seen tickets going as low as $10 in the Student Section. Scour the interwebs, and please buy them so the Student Section is at 50% capacity.

Why do you want the student section at 50% capacity?

Students have fall break this weekend, and a lot of them are selling their tickets. It seems like every girl I know is trying to sell her ticket on facebook

well that makes sense, i need a fall break from work.

How can they have fall break during Homecoming?? Seems like a bit of bad scheduling.

I never got a mid semester break outside of the traditional breaks unless thew TAs went on strike.

I know this question is off topic a bit, but what is fall break. In my time at A2, i don't remember fall break, or maybe I was passed out from the weekend. So, not to date myself, I graduate in the 90's.

Students get next Monday and Tuesday off. It's usually in the middle of October
October 13th, 2010 at 5:57 PM ^
For some reason, I don't remember this while I was at school. Maybe, I need to stop drinking. This is actually scaring me that I don't remember this.

I think it started between 2003-2005 or something. Maybe later. You're not going crazy.
Well, maybe you are, but you shouldn't use this as a data point to draw that conclusion.

there was no fall break back in the day. we had to create our own long weekends (ie. skipping all classes on Mon). college - the best eight years ever...

It took me three years, but I finally got my schedule so my week finished with a 5 credit Anat/Physiology class at 2PM Thursday.

I am a current student, and it is a nice break to have after the first round of exans (roughly). I heard it was around this time because this was the highest probability of suicides for students, especially the first year students. So they throw a break for people to have the ability to go home without missing class. I do not know if that is the official reason for it, but it kind of makes sense...I guess.
Another question is why they would have a football game during this break and or why they would have a break during a home football game
October 13th, 2010 at 5:55 PM ^
is just that... bs. it's an excuse for EVERYTHING in college scheduling. they just do it to work around scheduling and because the professors prefer to take off for their chateaus as quickly as possible

And that's why we didn't used to have it. It was called "culling the weak".

This is correct. In 2001-2002, I was the business school representative to MSA and on the Fall Break committee.
All of your post is essentially accurate: for many first year students, it's their first prolonged period away from home, it's a long trek from Labor Day to Thanksgiving without a break (longest unbroken stretch during the school year), and suicides peak around midterms historically at Michigan (and at other schools, according to the available data at the time).
Fall Break was meant to address these issues. In addition, most of UM's self-selected peer institutions in the Ivy League, and many of the Big Ten schools (including Iowa, Mary Sue Coleman's prior posting), already had a fall break.
It was not a terribly hard sell once we got the proposal out of committee.

Whooaaa, are you from the past? You found a way to travel into the future??? Or are you a not-yet-born form of yourself who has found a way to communicate to us your desires to graduate from UM?
October 13th, 2010 at 5:55 PM ^
My fault, should be graduated, was rushing out of work.

Wow...this is somewhat aggravating as I've been checking for weeks to get a pair for a buddy and his father coming up from Miami FL on mgoblue and nothing was available except singles in the endzone, thus I caved in and bought (2) off stubhub last week for well over face....I'm not a person that likes to take chances on scalping tickets when others are coming in from so far. Plus I don't like having it weigh on my mind during prime tailgating time either. Oh well.
October 13th, 2010 at 7:31 PM ^
I am driving with 5 friends from Des Moines, Iowa on Friday for the game and was worried about scalping 5 tix. I knew no way in hell to get five seats in a row until I saw this message and was able to order through mgoblue. That is just one more thing to make this the best thing I have found on the internet for M football. Would plus one you if I knew how.

anyone have two student tickets for sale?
October 13th, 2010 at 8:32 PM ^
The tickets that are on sale at Mgoblue.com are likely the unsold tickets alloted to Iowa. When the visiting team doesn't sell their complete allotment, those tickets are returned to the home team, which them puts them up for sale.

I doubt Iowa returned Section 24 row 1.
