Iowa QB Jake Rudock graduate transferring to Michigan?

Submitted by SAMgO on

There are rumors flying all over twitter about it this morning and a couple trusted posters on scout have said that they heard from solid sources that he informed Iowa that he will be coming here for his RS senior season. This would obviously be a major shake-up to the most important position on our depth chart.

Here's his player bio

If true I think he would end up starting. Not sure why guys transfer if there is a good shot they would not play at all. I think the O'Korn situation is different because he is not a senior.

Not sure if you're saying this, but whether he decides to transfer because he thinks he has a good shot to play has nothing to do with his actual place in JH's meritocracy.

One would think his experience would be a positive for sure, but there's nothing I see that makes me think the competition is anything but wide open.

he not happy at Iowa and he wants to get better. If his goal is to get to the NFL, a season working with Harbaugh and company improves his chances. If he was just interested in starting, he'd go elsewhere. Obviously the coaches can't promise him more than an open competition. If he thinks he can play in the NFL, then he should expect to win the job here.

Bellomy posted the signed transfer papers he got, which gave him permission to speak to other teams. It specifically said that he could not speak to teams that are on Michigan's schedule next year. Maybe it's different if you've already graduated, not doing your last semester? I don't know what Rudock's situation is.

Once a student graduates, they are allowed to walk away from their school, no questions asked and no paperwork required.  If they have 1 year of eligibility left, and if they are accepted to a graduate program that their previous school does not offer, they may use that year of eligibility at their graduate school.

Misc stats from the Iowa website:

  • Ranked second in the Big Ten in completion percentage (61.7%), fourth in pass efficiency (133.5) and sixth in passing yards per game (203) and total offense (217.7)
  • had fewest interceptions (five) among Big Ten quarterbacks with 250 or more attempts
  • ranks eighth in career passing touchdowns (34), passing yards (4,819 yards) and total offense (5,213)
  • one of three FBS players since 2008 to pass and rush for four-plus touchdowns in their first four career games (Robert Griffin III, 2008; Johnny Manziel, 2012; Jake Rudock, 2013)
  • ranked fifth in the Big Ten in total offense (208.7) and sixth in passing yards per game (190.1) in 2013

To be fair about 100 QBs in the country would have compared favorably to Devin's stats of 2014.  They were awful.  2013 Devin was another situation.

It we want an easy comparison, Rudock is a less mobile version of Gary Nova without (IMO) as much oomph on the ball but far less turnover prone.

What happened to "If you're for us... Be FOR us!" What happened to HARBAUGH!!??

Honeymoon ended already before the 1st Spring practice?

If this Iowa QB is accepted in a transfer here I'm guessing it's because HARBAUGH thinks we need him? You geniuses (and I'm always in your corner Bronx) can mock his Iowa accomplishments all you like...I'm still all in on HARBAUGH!

On the other hand, if Rudock doesn't end up coming here, then you were all right about him, of course....

The thing with the twitter chatter is that they're referencing a Steve Deace Iowa interview for a lot of it, but this morning he came on Michigan's scout page and said he heard that it's happening. Obviously nothing's 100% yet but it seems like there's a good chance this might actually go through.

He's got a conservative radio show in Iowa and is a Michigan fan but apparently talks Iowa sports a lot too. He's not usually an insider but has been posting on the scout board for a very long time. This morning he said "On Jake Rudock to Michigan... I'm being informed from a solid source the family has told people on the Iowa side of things that he's transferring to Michigan."

So take that FWIW, but it's definitely quite the interesting new development.

Just because he's verifiably nuts with the church and state stuff doesn't mean that he doesn't have a good source on whether or not Jake Rudock is transferring to Michigan. He does some sports talk too, after all, and I think it's safe to assume that he looked to someone other than jesus for the info from his post this morning.

Why bring politics in it?

While I disagree with the premise of that article, his political/religious beliefs have absolutely nothing to do with his credibility as it pertains to possible knowledge of a grad transfer in college sports. This is why politics are banned here. They are never (or rarely) relevant to sports.

For instance. I may think Obama is crazy on political issue XYZ. That doesn't stop him from possibly having far more connections to the Chicago basketball scene then I do. Perceived stupidity in one area of thought does not mean stupidity across the board. (Note this is an example, not a reflection of my political leanings.)

He's not expressing a political view. He's making a verifiably false (and offensive) statement. There's political views, and then there's crazy. This man is crazy and his article is evidence of that. His article is no more of a political statement than Mel Gibson saying Jews start all wars (also verifiably false and offensive). Neither statement deserves to be respected as a legitimate political opinion. Both are equally deserving of contempt.

I don't see what his political opinions have to do with whether or not he would have inside sources regarding Ruddock.  He may be a nutcase but can still know people who are connected to Iowa's program.
