Iowa Does it For Farmers, America

A very good post about some very determined Iowa fans spending a VERY significant amount of time and effort to show their patriotism (and support) is posted here.

From 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, the volunteers taped down the cards to each of the seats. Because of strong winds Saturday, additional tape had to be used. The volunteers were taxed, and needed every available minute to finish the task.

A very cool effort worth kuduos (and 5 minutes of reading).

would want to do this when they play Nebraska.

Iowa has always been a big ANF supporter going back to Hayden Fry's days when the farming crisis of the 80's began.

It's a big part of the economy there. Don't get it twisted though, it's not all small farmers working dawn to dusk to provide for their families. A lot of the larger farms are owned by people/groups who are extremely wealthy and are taking advantage of the insane government subsidies given to farmers.

I always thought we should play Iowa for Mary Sue Coleman. Not the Mary Sue Coleman Trophy, the actual person. She could stand on some podium and the winning team could run  up to her and just carry her around. Would be pretty funny.

I was sitting right beneath the score board in the south endzone and I was very skeptical this would work out.  That said, this was really sweet.  Stanzi was also in Iowa City.  Saw him at the bar Friday night.

I was in Kinnick for the game, and I have to say that it was pretty impressive. I had heard about the plan prior to and was very skeptical as to how it would end up looking, but I must admit that it was very well executed. I don't think the pictures do it justice. I would love to see Michigan pull something like that off. Even aside from the cards they had everyone hold up, each section alternated between black and gold, which made for a pretty cool effect. Kinnick is a pretty good experience, and I highly recommend making the trip to Iowa City for the Nov. 5th game!
