We are currently dealing with the same situation with my father.  Hopefully there are no complications and the amputation will allow Norm to live a somewhat normal life going forward.  Thoughts and prayers are with him and his family.

Best Wishes to Mr. Parker.  That has got to be hard.

This has got to be a message to coach Robinson though--lose this game, and the hair is coming off!

Norm Parker is a hero in this state. As much as I have a large amount of hate for Iowa football, this kind of thing is terrible. I wish him the best in his recovery.

Norm coached my uncles football team at St. John's Catholic HS in Ypsilanti.  Coach Parker was a mentor and a very positive influence in his life.  My uncle went on to become the head coach at Willow Run HS and eventually the AD after heart problems ended his coaching career.  My best to Norm and his family.  May he have a speedy recovery.

The Cubs legend (should be Hall of Famer, but neither here nor there) has lost both of his legs to diabetes. He's still the man, so I'm sure Coach Parker will continue living a fulfilling life as well. Best of luck to him.

Shameless plug: Diabetes is a serious disease and unfortunately it will continue affecting more people, and at a younger age. Santo's charity of choice is Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, I'd encourage people to check it out. Especially if you know someone who is a diabetic.
