An Interview with James Ross
Andrew interviewed incoming freshman James Ross the other day. He talks about where Michigan wants him to play, how big he is right now, and Greg Mattison's tastes in music.
...is a class act and will represent M very well.
Thank GOD, something to finally read this morning. Work can wait.
Love this interview. What a great kid. Go make a difference on the football field and then give back to the kids in Detroit. The type of kid I love to see at Michigan.
Did he discuss what Richard Jonathon Rodriguez and Lloyd Carr did to piss off George Porritt?
I didn't do the interview, but my guess is no.
His offer from Michigan was in his soph year from RR. Not sure how OLSM's coach would have a problem with that . He (Porritt) is pretty tight with a ton of coaches across the country.
There have been rumors that OLSM coaches had a problem with Carr/Rodriguez because for a few years there, OLSM recruits didn't really give Michigan much of a look. Between Morgan Trent and James Ross, we didn't get a single guy from there. Allen Robinson, Earnest Thomas, Robert Bolden, Dion Sims, Taurian Washington, Dionte Allen, Justin Siller, etc. all went elsewhere (not all had offers, but still).
He would be on the smaller side these days as well.
According to a Maple Leafs blog in 2010, the average weight of NHL players is 204 lbs. So he would definitely be on the larger side. The Red Wings have one player over 225 (Bertuzzi). The Ducks have one. Bruins have three. Sabres have 0. The Flames have 0. So James Ross would be a big player in the NHL.
He has a 0.0 GPA and he got a 4 on the ACT, so no, he's not going to be eligible. Trust me. I checked his transcript. We just did this interview for shits and giggles.
He's my new best friend and he just explained that he's illiterate and the faculty is secretly letting Stephen Hawking do his work for him.
You sure know how to pick 'em.
Your old best friend was Aaron Burbridge.
Nice, Magnus!! Before Aaron, I was best friends with Demar Dorsey.
I know often times because you're a middle school football coach in Ohio that you think you have the drop on everyone, but there are still several in this class that are "on the line" so to speak. I have heard, from very good sources, he was one. Now if you have something to refute my claim aside from your usual smartass remarks, please feel free.
I'm not sure why you're asking the question if you have such high ranking sources.
No you're the all knowing internet Michigan Football God on here, please shed some knowledge. Nah you'd rather mock people for asking a simple question that is very relevant. I love the kid, can't wait to see him in a winged helmet, but I heard he had work to do in the classroom first. I was curious how he was doing? Please share some of your all knowing knowledge.
Look, you've got -121 points, so clearly you're well respected around here. So I'll help you out with some of my all knowing knowledge:
You're asking a question that nobody on here can possibly answer, unless James Ross or his guidance counselor reads and comments on this board. You have "very good sources" that have informed you he's on the edge, so no random poster on here is going to change your mind.
If you ask a dumb question, you get a smartass answer. That's the way it works around here. Welcome to MGoBlog.
My score is nothing more then a reflection of a few posts on Rich Rod that many "loyal to a fault" fans labeled me a "hater". All the while what I was saying was nothing more then truth they didn't want to hear at the time.
I am a member of several UM sites, and I don't think asking how a recruits progress in the classroom is coming is a "dumb" question. A smart ass remark seems to be your hallmark when you don't actually know something. If you and a few on here want to act like insiders, then when someone asks you for actual information you turn around and act like a child.
This site is not the only show in town, and it has been well cited on other sites there are a few who still have work to do.
Well spoken Mr. Middle School Football Coach Insider Man.
Again, if you trust the other sites so much, then it seems like a waste of time to come here and ask questions.
And again, transcripts aren't public information.
You're not going to know anything definitive until he's on campus...or he's not.
It's a dumb question, whether you think so or not.
I'm not going to waste any more time explaining why.
Well aware transcripts aren't public records. Most of the time when these kids talk to people that do interviews, or they have some sort of relationship with an "insider", they tell them certain information. On sites such as scout, there have been numerous times Sam or Tom have said on a kid that "fill in the blank" has some work to do but they are working hard, or it is only a point on the ACT. Something to that affect.
I thought you may know, or be in the know. I was wrong. Instead of saying I am not sure, or I don't know, or ask someone else, I get your usual remark.
I am stupid, you're correct, for thinking you actually had some sort of inside info. My fault, won't make that mistake again.
Mattison's experience with the Ravens is invalauable in recruiting... love that he can show kids Ravens film, and be like, "that's going to be you, if you come here and play for me."
Very impressive kid. Sounds like he comes from a good family and really has his head on straight. I'm guessing he plays some as a true freshman.
I can see why they only took two linebackers for 2013. Morgan, Bolden, Ross, Stone, Ringer, Poole, Gedeon, McCray....I think we can find a good MIKE and a WILL out of those players.
I'm wondering if anyone might get switched over to the SAM, if they have enough size.
Of the four guys we took in 2012, Jenkins-Stone seems the most likely to turn into a SAM...
Does anyone know what league those hockey highlights are from ? I need to get in that league becuase I would score 10 goals a game. They were terrrible.
You would score 6 goals a game, max.
I would't score less than 8, and i'm being completley serious. Unfourtanatley I found out that he was playing Bantam B in those clips. So he was a freshamn at the oldest. There are some good house leagues in michigan, that was not one of them.
Fo sho. And I bet if I played freshmen football I could score 8 touchdowns a game, easy.
8 ? freshman football ? that's weak. I wouldn't settle for less than 9.
Awesome! Another reason to pull for this kid!
He sounds like a great kid with high aspirations. He's making good decisions and Mattison is going to help him live his dream.
Good luck James.
Go Blue!
This kid has a chance to be one of Michigan's best. Along with Joe Bolden! Great interview! Go Blue
Here's to the next David Harris
