An Interview with Erik Magnuson
This isn't the worst interview you've ever read, nor is it the best. It's right smack dab in the middle. Andrew interviewed incoming freshman offensive tackle Erik Magnuson about why he came to Michigan, his unicycle, his future position, and more.
Neither oversold nor undersold. 6/10 would read one more time.
I laughed, I cried....it was much better than 'Cats!
Provided good insight to this young man. He is going to be a great one.
Wow, riding the unicycle could really help train your balance and even work some core muscles. That actually seems like it could be fun and help his football playing.
When he mentions eventually being at left tackle, do you (magnus or whoever) think that does not take into consideration Shane being a lefty? Seems like coming in at right tackle, initially not the blindside, then not having to make the switch by the time he has a few years under his belt and being called upon to protect shane's blindside is kind of a perfect way for his career to progress. Though, maybe I don't have the full understanding of how different the footwork is on each side, and maybe he is a more natural fit at left tackle. thoughts?
I think saying he'd eventually be a left tackle is more of an evaluation of where they see his skills fitting, specifically as a blind side tackle. Saying he'll be a right tackle would imply that Shane Morris has the job locked up, but Denard, Gardner, and Bellomy are all right-handed. No matter who wins the job for the duration of Magnuson's career, I expect that he'll eventually be protecting the QB's backside. He seems like the most natural fit at left tackle outside of Lewan and maybe Schofield, but those guys will be seniors (or gone) when Magnuson reaches his redshirt sophomore/junior year.
Appreciate the insight, and yes my inquiry was heavily assumptive regarding Shane starting early in his career. Great to hear he is at 295 already.
Lewan = redshirt senior in 2013
Schofield = redshirt senior in 2013
Magnuson = freshman in 2012, redshirt freshman/sophomore in 2013, redshirt sophomore/junior in 2014 after Lewan/Schofield are gone
a well-balanced interview.
I need to hear Queens "Bicycle" while reading this interview, then it would be a 10/10.
I started singing it in my head when I got to the end of the interview. However, I tried to change bicycle to unicycle and decided it just wasn't the same.
But "bi" implies that there are two wheels. That would be misleading.
might as well beat them to the punch.
That was somehow the worst and best interview I've ever read. I wish Magnus would stop selling it somewhere in the middle.
And considering Taylor Lewan's notorious affection for his tandem bike, there is only one logical conclusion: "Left tackles abhor normal bicycles."
This should actually become some sort of standard question for prospective left tackles - "What kind of cycle do you prefer to ride?". As someone said, the unicycle should actually help him out with balance and core muscle development. Moreover, I like that he wanted to follow Hoke to Michigan essentially, another example of the impression our coach makes on people. Only good can come of such an ability to connect with people, I would think.
to the Lewan / Magnuson photoshop thread.
Before my time is done, I hope to see our entire offensive line riding a 5-man bicycle.
One that can support what is sure to be at least 1500 lbs.
I'm so excited for this class and next, but I have to keep remembering that O-Line recruits don't usually pay-off for a couple of years. We'll definitely have a dominant O-Line in 2015, and we should be getting better every year between now and then, but we still have at least a two year wait before these kids take over.
I'm ready for Treadwell to commit. Once we get him, I don't care much who the last guy is (I'd love a premier RB or CB).
Luckily, we should have a pretty good offensive line in the meantime, too, though it will be pretty thin...
might help.
I'm not sure what this means...
if I have to explain it. But just for you...
...it was a smart-ass comment by me directed at "Half Blood Dutc..." and the mispelled word in his above post, "He gas his goals..."
Gotcha. I rarely look at the subject lines of posts, so I missed that line.
Thanks for the explanation, though.
