An Interview with Chris Wormley

Andrew interviewed incoming freshman defensive end Chris Wormley and posted it this morning.  Last time I posted a link to an interview, I was accused of "overselling" it, so this time I won't do that.  Enjoy.

I disagree rather aggressively.

The most interesting commit of 2012 (by your logic) is clearly Jehu Chesson.  A 3-star at a position of need that had "speed" as a weakness but yet wins State in the hurdles.

Wherever Wormley winds up he is going to have to compete with a lot of recruits in the 2012 class (and 2013 class with Taco / Poggi) to earn playing time.  I think Chesson is much more likely to make an impact in 2012/2013 than Wormley.

Darboh was a consensous four star if memory serves (or at the very least close to it).  Chesson was not, but has built up a lot of hype this offseason with his track speed.

Both are great kids, but since Darboh has a higher ranking - the casual fan would think he is better.  I think Chesson is more interesting because it seems as if he was underrated by the recruiting sites.  And as we know - seemingly every year a 3 star comes "out of nowhere" and becomes a real player for us (Braylon, Hart, JT Floyd, Jake Ryan, Frank Clark, Desmond Morgan etc. etc.).

Not to sub-sub thread - but which guy do you think is going to be more impactful in 2012 Darboh or Chesson?  Or do I have to wait for your countdown.

Eddins is undersold in that coutdown BTW in my opinion - but we will see about that on the field.  He's had the college workouts and training.  It's highly dependent on how fit/ready Williams comes in.

I'm still somewhat undecided on that...  I'm leaning toward Darboh because he's more physically ready, but I don't know that he's more talented in the long run.

The lucky guy may be the one who RSs.  The overall playing time across his career is going to be larger for that guy.  Devin will take the marginal snaps at WR this year IMO - which means nothing.

That he hasnt figured out how to translate that speed to the football field yet? I know his talent will be maximized at Michigan though. The 2012 class just feels like a powder keg ready to explode with potential to me with Darboh, Chesson, Norfleet, and Wormelu. Anyone else get that feeling?

Oh, you know recruiting sites.  Hurdlers have to go up and down so much the experts may worry that won't translate to straight-line speed.

This is the second or third interview I've seen with Wormley where he continually looks away from the camera.  I wonder if he's disinterested, camera-shy, or just wants to beat the hell out of someone asking the same annoying questions in interview after interview.  Either way, I'm excited to see him on the field.

6'5", 270 lbs is pretty impressive for a freshman DE.  There's not really much room for him to grow into that position.  Would you say it's 50/50 he ends up inside?

Eventually, yeah.  I somehow doubt that he can go his entire college career without gaining at least 20 lbs.  And if he's 290+, he'll probably be too big for DE.

It's not a recruiting violation if the players have a previous relationship.  Considering they went to the same high school, it's quite possible that Koger and Wormley knew each other outside of the Michigan connection.

Tweeting @RecruitX is bad. Sending a direct message to @RecruitX = not always bad.
