Seeing as how we're going to be playing against Saban first in 2013 I'd be happier if the coaches sat down with Meyer to learn how to game plan against Bama.
Interesting RUMOR on Paul Finebaum involving Michigan
Meh, I'd rather beat Ohio State than Alabama. Alabama beats us and I'll just blame oversigning. Ohio State beats us and I'll be so upset that it will bother me daily for months.
Id rather beat Ohio too, but we'll have all next year to prepare for them, watching every game they play, but our new look front 7 will be lining up against Alabama right out of the gate next year so Saban concerns me more.
We'd just call Les Miles for that. He's still friendly with Michigan I hope.
As long as we can keep it secret this time.
Last I checked Bill Martin was not the AD any longer
Uncle Les may not be willing to help if we can't offer him a snack.
Saban is to defense as Rodriguez/Meyer are to offense. I have friends throughout the college coaching ranks that all study his philosophies. Most, if not all, have something in their gameplans that is Sabanesque. Any amount of time picking Saban's brain is time well spent. As a defensive coordinator myself, I would kill to be a fly on the wall of that film room. Mattison/Saban = the Aristotle/Plato for meatheads.
yeah but who's Meyer going to sit down with to learn how to game plan against Bama?
The enemy of my enemy is my friend - Old Proverb.
Yes, but if Alabama and Ohio are both our enemies and eachothers enemies, then what does that make them? Frienemies?
In all seriousness, it's hard for me to imagine a Saban/Hoke collusion against Urban Meyer. Doesn't Saban have better things to do with his time than settling old scores? Coaches do visit each other's camps and share info sometimes, but a planning session to really get a particular coach seems far fetched.
Also, wouldn't Mattison be the best source of info for stopping Urban's offense. He saw it live every practice for a year.
We've always been at war with Urban Meyer.
We've always been aligned with Nick Saban.
Ignorance is strength. War is peace. Brian loves MANBALL.
You have been all over this blog the last couple days. Appreciate the info.
Wouldn't Borges already know about Urban to some extent? And um.,..Mattison too?
This was what I thought, but this story seems to be gaining some traction.
Yeah, I guess I should not be that surprised. Coaches share '"info" a lot. I know it is pretty customary that colleges coaches will visit with the NFL dudes a lot. Interesting nonetheless though. Good to see the coaches at least listening to thoughts about Urbanmania.
Mattison should know everything about Urban that Seban does.
I don't see why Mattison would have ever had a full gameplan against Meyer's offense while he was at Florida. I think that is where the advantage of talking to Nick Saban comes into play. Sure Mattison will have valuable input about Meyer's general tendencies as a head coach, his decision making on both sides of the ball etc.
Coaches talk all the time.
the enemy of my enemy is my friend?
nope, don't care, hate saban
lol I'm not worried about urban, Carr had his number already.
Now lets meet with the Madd Hatter of Louisiana to discuss shop about Saban
I hear what you're saying, but the "Carr beat Meyer" meme is a bit overstated. Michigan beat Florida once in Carr's last game where Michigan was clearly more motivated to win and send its beloved coach out on a high note. Michigan threw all of its tendencies out the window, spread Florida out. To say that Michigan should not worry about OSU because Carr beat Meyer once in a bowl game years ago is a bit silly.
But I like your enthusiasm!
Understated is how much talent we had on that team. Damn you, Chad Henne's Shoulder.
Saban himself wants us to beat Meyer!? First we sell Michigan hats in Arkansas and then we find an unlikely collaborator. We live in interesting times.
The tide is really turning.
Wait, are you talking about the Tide or "the tide"?
No you see, we're going to take what Saban tells us about Urban and how to prepare for Urban's offense/defense, and then devise our own schemes to counter Saban's schemes. Therefore, we will defeat both Alabama AND Urban.
Seems to me Mattison would be fairly familiar with U Meyer
Nobody likes or gets along with Saban.
especially marginal players who are taking up a scholarship spot.
The rumor I heard was that the best way to stop Meyer was to send a young co-ed his way. It gives him indigestion and forces him to retire for "health" reasons
The co-eds in Columbus have nothing in common with those in Gainesville other than plumbing. Meyer won't be tempted. That's probably why his wife Shelley gave him the OK to coach there.
Those are common side effects.
OP: If there is a MgoPrize for most posts that are actually merit reading and generate decent discussions you'd win the award going away.
In other words....if posts were baseball you'd be Rod Carew or Tony Gwinn. Nothing flashy and not a lot of home run pop but man o man can you hit singles an doubles all day long.
Nice work - thanks for keeping the board updated and alive during this slow period.
yeah this is pretty common. The Harbaugh brothers got together last week to discuss beating the Steelers cause it helped out both of them.
By our choice of DC, we can consult half of Meyer's mind as it is actually. Still, it is interesting to see that there is open chatter about Urban Meyer and how to best him. Perhaps asking questions about Alabama vs. Florida through the years would be most useful, of course - two birds, one stone? One can hope, even in vain.
I thought Saban hated UofM since his time at MSU. Maybe he got over it, or Maybe he hates Urban that much. Hes not the first guy I would've guessed would help UofM.
Saw the game in Dallas as his idea of revenge, try to clobber us and say SEE WHAT I CAN DO WITH EQUAL TALENT!!!!!
Then he put us like 9th in his final coaches poll, and shanked Sparty. Now this. I hate him less, I can't help it.
The talent on the field in Dallas will be far from equal.
Over signing not withstanding, Saban is a hell of a coach. I can actually see many similarities to the Alabama program and what Michigan is building. I think this can only be good.
how to beat Meyer when Mattison worked for Meyer for years?
Oh and did I mention Paul Finebaum is awwwwwful!
I don't know whats more disgusting, that guy or his wife...
Not really because it makes no sense.
1. We have no idea what Urban's offense will look like at OSU.
2. Meyer has never had a QB like Braxton Miller
3. I don't think we can deploy this defense. "Here's what you do you line up your 11 5 star players........" Uh I have N. Brink in my 2 deep. "Nevermind"
4. This stuff doesn't happen.
Staffs trade ideas all the time so the rumor isn't crazy but they never trade ideas with teams they are playing in the next few years.
I'm with you 100%! Hell while we're at it, let's stop Michigan from watching tape ever again. Makes no sense to me! Just because they played one way against a team, doesn't mean out opponent will do the same things against us, am I right?!?! Also, I'm going to write a letter to Hoke and request that he not use a scout team in practices leading up to the bowl. I mean, who knows how much V-Tech's schemes will change during the break between games.
And the bottom line going back to a coach on a new team with different personnel is, why in the world would they bother coaching the same way they always have when they're in a different enviroment. Just look at a small sample of all these coaches that have drastically changed their styles when they coached elsewhere: RichRod (WVU vs U of M), Paul Johnson (Navy vs GaTech), Urban Meyer (Bowling Green vs Utah vs Florida)...
...or maybe it was those guys who didn't change a damn thing about their coach style...hmm, well, you know what I am getting at anyways!
this is a mindset I don't get. We beat Alabama next year, we are on the hunt for a national title. At a certain point, our goals have to reach beyond OSU into the realm of national relevance. Beating a marquee SEC powerhouse in the regular season would put us back on the map.
ergo, I'd rather use meyer to beat Saban. and then use saban to beat meyer. fuck em both.
i certainly hope the team doesn't take the general fanbase's attitude towards that game in texas stadium next fall. don't sit there thinking... eh, we'll probably lose.... whatever.
Yes, beating Alabama puts is in the hunt for the title game if we went out.
However at the end of the year we'll playing a tOSU team for whom "The Game" is also their bowl game. Next year is likely one of the worst years to look past that school in Ohio.
"We beat Alabama next year, we are on the hunt for a national title."
That right there sums it up nicely. Everything else is window-dressing.
this is a mindset I don't get. We beat Alabama next year, we are on the hunt for a national title. At a certain point, our goals have to reach beyond OSU into the realm of national relevance.
You can't win the National Title if you don't win the Big Ten.
Actually Alabama can win the National Championship and they finished second in their division.
"Let's walk down and fuck them all."
Ideally this would peeve Meyer and he would tell us how to prepare for Bama as well. The thing is, preparing for Bama is easy. Executing is hard. They do pretty normal stuff with little bling, however they do it very well. Urban isn't the same.
The Paul finnebaum "show" (if that's what you want to call it) is the worst sports radio program I have ever heard.
I was so excited when my new car came with Sirius radio and I found the college football station.
My excitement was quickly tempered when I was routinely subjected to the Paul finnebaum "show". Any idiot can sit there and take phone calls from redneck 'bama fans that just want to whine about the SEC. He adds nothing to the content of that show. It's terrible!
Yes. Sorry, but I can decipher 50% of what many southern callers are saying on that show. It's unlistenable - and not necessarily because of content.
I'm in the same boat, with Sirius radio. I live in central Oklahoma, so naturally college football talk is about 45% OU, 40% OSU, 10% other Big 12 teams, and 5% the rest of the country. I thought a supposed nationwide college sports radio station would be an improvement. On Finebaum's show it seems about 50% or more is spent on the SEC, mayber 20% on the Big 12 (but mainly about Missouri and Texas A&M, go figure) and the rest little bits and pieces here and there around the rest of the country. Oh well. When my Sirius contract runs out, I'm not really going to miss it much at all.
I know Urban Meyer vistied with RR a few times while RR was here and I am pretty certain RR visited with Saban to see how he utlized TEs when he first srated here because he had so many TEs and hadn't used them frequently in the past...
I could be wrong AND I am not really sure how this plays into this post, BUT I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night and it smelled like sex in there.
I'm not sure about Saban.
I think you're thinking of Stoops, not Saban re. RR using TEs.
I don't really think it's a mystery as to what Urban tries to do on offense. All coaches need to do is watch the film and look for tendancies.
Perhaps it's a friendly conversation, but I highly doubt it's deep in scheme or that Saban has all of the answers. As someone already alluded to, it would almost be a slap in the face to Mattison if we think that he can't put together a gameplan.
I forsee the conversation going like this...
Hoke: "Wellllll...Meyer did a tremendous job down in Florida offensively, and we're trying to do an even more tremendous job defensively to stop the future OSU offense. Any suggestions?
Saban: "Recruit and oversign REALLY REALLY talented kids on defense."
STOP SPOUTING OFF LIKE THIS IS FACT ITS JSUT A RUMER ... YOU scUMMERS ARE JUST JEALISS LIKE ALL THE OTHER SEC TEAMS THAT GOT THEIR BUTTS HANDED TO THEM BY URBAN ... WERE GUNNA CRUSH YOU EITHER WAY
The the fact that you have to ask that question shows just how awesome the internet, along with its inhabitants, is.
hacked into the account again, huh?
WHY ARE YOU YELLING?
I slept with your wife- and Urban's...
Doesn't really tell you much about how you'd work against us. So some form of conversation is not out of the question. I'm sure Meyer is talking to Rich about Michigan. Tressel. Etc. And we're talking to people about him.
Finebaum sucks. I have it on xm radio and all it is is rednecks calling in dissing Bama and Auburn, and sometimes you get racist people.
I had Finebaum on XM the other day and a guy called in and started going off about all of the "coons" at LSU. It seriously blew my mind. Finebaum just went on to the next caller like the last guy hadn't used a racial slur 15-20 times. I thought maybe it was some sort of inside joke or something?
The southin red-neck is a very interesting breed. Past experince taught me that while living in the south for over ten years...
I am sure coach Hoke and Mattison are spending time worrying about how to defend Ohio in a game a year from now. This is ridiculous to say the least.
To say coaches wouldn't meet in the off season to discuss a future game isn't accurate. I think it happens every offseason, in every sport.
Yes, all you have to do is check out Borges's last interview that Boyz n da Pahokee linked to. He talks about seeking advice and input from other coaches as a matter of usual practice. I'm sure the same goes for other coaches as well.
When RR was hired Tressell supposedly met/talked with the South Florida coach about how they defended WVU. RR lost to South Florida in '06 and '07.
they're going to the right man/team on how to beat Urban Meyer into a pulp.
of hearing about this guy...He's a great coach but very beatable.
Beating Alabama is urgent, but beating Meyer enduring. If we gain "the tide" over Meyer, we could set up a decade's dominance.
That is, if he doesn't spend any more time with his family.
Just get in Urban's head, and sooner or later he will crack. Then he will blame it on health and not being there for his family which will put him back on ESPN till the Texas job opens up. I give it 4 years.
I will do it...for a fee, of course:
Seems doubtful, given that we'll face Saban before we face Meyer.
I sometimes wonder what happened to k06em01?
I just hope we don't see those depth chart threads again every week leading up to the season.
c'mon dude those were some good times. That kid was nuts.
Michigan State and Tressel collaborated on Michigan for years, so its nothing new really.
Man with holes in pockets feel cocky all day long!
Airport turnstyle sideways going to Bangkok
I highly doubt this is true. But even if it were, Saban's record against Meyer is just 2-1. And if Florida and Bama had played in 2007 (Saban's first year), Tim Tebow would have destroyed Saban's 7-6 team. So basically they beat each other once in the SEC title game and Saban's squad crushed a crappy Florida team last year suffering the loss of Tebow. I don't think that really qualifies Saban as the master of knowing how to beat Urban Meyer.
First, i was going to ask "Wait, they talk about something other than Alabama/ Auburn?" Then I realized, it still in some way involves Alabama.
in the first game of the year than any other. Nobody knows how good they will be until they get a couple of games under their belts.
I think Bama will be better overall than Ohio, but I think it will be easier to beat Bama in the first game than Ohio in the 12th. There will be no surprises in Nov., but many in Sept.
probably not even true, but if it is I think its funny he did'nt go to msu with his info.
Finebaum is a total deushbag. I called in his show last week to ask some non Alabama question, which the dude who answers he phone first said "oh yeah we talk about all college team". What bullshit. So I ask what other bowl game he's lookin forward to and if he had any insight/analysis on the sugar bowl. That dickhead didnt even answer either question and then they wouldnt let my call back go thru. I hope we beat Bama so I can talk mad shit to that SEC lovin prik!!!
