Fitz - Nope.
Miles - God no.
Hoke - We'll see.
Gruden - Meet him in the desert.
Note to Self: Try to appease fan base. Take forever. Be real quiet. Stay away from blogs. Smoke sticky icky. Go to bread. Wake. Repeat.

Go to bread? Why would he go to bread? Fibre deficiency?
January 8th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Maybe he wants some toast

One time Lisa had to babysit Bart and Bart said....., which was hilarious and then I used it in a post.

... do you like turtles?
January 8th, 2011 at 8:15 PM ^
This is just stupid. "Grown legs" in that article means Fox 2 reporter tweeted it. This is not news. This is not an independent source.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
And it should be recognized that the reporter deleted the tweet...This is all getting redic last night Miles to michigan, tonight gruden, tomrmrow hoke.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:31 PM ^
Jennifer Hammond's twitter still has the tweet about him interviewing:
January 8th, 2011 at 8:34 PM ^
Did she really? When I click on her account the tweet still comes up.
Edit: Beat to the punch.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
But to be fair, we are starting to get those "I saw a guy that looks like that guy" posts.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:16 PM ^
Well if Carr could have Tremendous as a fall phrase, we can handle a "That guy!" guy.
I guess my only question is where do Gruden's assistants come from? He wouldn't bring a bunch with him since he's not a current head coach clearly, so I assume we'd go for the recently released Florida assistants I wonder who else.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:23 PM ^
This is my only concern if he were hired. Im a huge advocate of getting Gruden, but like you mentioned, where would his assistants come from? Im sure he would be able to bring in a good staff. It would be interesting to say the least. Lets worry about this IF he gets hired. Man I hope he gets the job!
January 8th, 2011 at 8:29 PM ^
Yeah, this late in the year when most people have extensions and are locked in, the only people we'd really have a direct line on would be people who want to come home to Michigan. They're all talented assistants but I'd worry what happens if Gruden doesn't get along one of them (al la RR and Schafer). Then you'd have a "Michigan Man"* assistant arguing with a Super Bowl winning coach. That could get ugly. Still it beats not having a coach.
*I use this term in the sense of how many of the alums and media would feel about it, not out of any personal belief in the Michigan Man thing.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:57 PM ^
There are some pretty good assistants available, at least on the offensive side of the ball. Guys who have been let go a little prematurely.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:17 PM ^
Just tweeted that Jon Gruden's Wikipedia page has a whole section devoted to "University of Michigan Speculation" and that he either will or will not come to Michigan.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:20 PM ^
I love insightful news media. He either will or will not come to Michigan. Top quality reporting...
January 8th, 2011 at 8:22 PM ^
Wikipedia is probably a more reliable news source than the Freep.

Double post I suck. Just envision kittens here.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:30 PM ^
If getting neg-bombed for sarcasm is par for the course around here these days, I'll have to change my MO.
ALERT: My first post was meant to be sarcastic.
I love how people take a post about how people will take any post on the Interwebz seriously, serious.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:24 PM ^
I really am.
January 8th, 2011 at 8:26 PM ^
Wait until he pops up in a nightmare. That'll change things...

At this point, we can have Denard serve as offensive player -oach, Martin serve as defensive player-coach, and Hagerup serve as ST player-coach in 2011. That would give DB more to assess the situation and ponder what action to take.

with the college game for two decades. He has no recent experience in recruiting 17-yr olds, has no recent experience working with the academic side of the equation, has no experience mentoring and leading teenagers, and has zero recruiting ties in the midwest, or anywhere for that matter.
But he's blonde and telegenic and the media loves him, so it's all good.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:14 PM ^
I'd much prefer this:

You do realize your description would fit Pete Carroll 2001 perfectly, right? It's not that off the wall to think he would succeed. Whether or not he is a viable option is a different debate.

I dont think a Superbowl winning NFL coach will have a problem getting 17 and 18 year old kids to come to play football for him...

" I dont think a Superbowl winning NFL coach will have a problem getting 17 and 18 year old kids to come to play football for him..."
Variations on that statement were uttered a million times about Charlie Weis. Yes, he was only an OC, and I'll give you that Gruden at least has HC experience. However, the Super Bowl reference was also initially trotted out by the proponents of Greg Robinson. I don't think it means as much to a program's success as many think it does.

As if what anyone here wants really matters to DB...
Anyway, I referenced this post yesterday. I think Chucky to Michigan is possible because Chucky has kept his mouth shut for four days. When that happens, something is going on.
I don't really want Chucky, but I wouldn't be ready to jump off a bridge as I would if it turns out to be Hoke. Chucky's charisma would keep the media on his side and help in recruiting. His bro would make a creative OC, too. I would still rather have a spread guy, though.
It's just that the silence makes me think something is up.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:20 PM ^
If Chucky wouldn't take Florida or either of the two Miamis, he ain't coming here.
January 8th, 2011 at 9:54 PM ^
...but he has stated that Michigan was his "dream job" several times in the past.
January 8th, 2011 at 11:35 PM ^
Didn't JH say the same thing? I don't recall that turning out very well.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:41 PM ^
Gruden is a beast and if he were to come to Michigan I would feel incredibly confident that he would be here for a long time because he has the opportunity to coach in the NFL right now - the Browns, 49ers, and Broncos have all shown interest already. By coming to Michigan he would be choosing Michigan over the NFL (which is refreshing given the JH debacle).
With Jon Gruden at the helm we would get NFL talent back in the program which in my mind is what's most important. You can talk about schemes and coaches and everything else. But in the end what makes a great coach are the players he's able to get to come here - Gruden would be able to get the guys that want to get to the NFL.
January 8th, 2011 at 10:45 PM ^
He is a very very very spontaneous and charismatic personality and I have no doubt he would do wonders recruiting. Kids have grown up watching him on TV on Sundays - and more recently on Mondays - and know that he knows what it takes to get them ready for the NFL.
Last years Gruden's QB Camp is proof of his insight into the intricacies and differences between the college and pro game.
He is apparently a film hawk. Wakes up every morning at 3:30 am and just watches film for fun - trying to get as well versed on every team in the NFL.
