Interacting With Recruits

Submitted by gater on

I'm with TOB on this one.  I can't believe people would do this.  Do they want to rebuild the program or not?

If you are the person who verbally attacked Anthony Zettel after Saturday's game because he hasn't committed to Michigan yet, or if you're the tool who flipped off James Ross and his father because they wore red and white ST. MARY'S PREP SWEATSHIRTS to the game, you're a piece of shit, and I'm embarrassed to cheer for the same team as you. Go jump off a cliff.

Do not be too suprised, i see a lot of off the wall comments on Anthony's Facebook wall. It shouldn't amaze me, but it does. Some of the stuff grown adults put on his wall. They post video links and makes abrasive comments to other teams fans. Though Iowa fans seem to be the worst on his FB wall. I had to tell one to back off and leave him alone. That he was only a HS student and didn't need to be told where to attend college. It makes me sick that "fans" can be so damn intrusive. You could say it is his fault for accepting their friend request, but thats not fair to him.

You're entitled to your opinion.

Like this quote from The Dead Pool movie says:

Harry Callahan: Well, opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.

I am not telling them where to go, or trying to contact them on their walls. The comments are posted on my wall, in the newsfeed.

vos postulo aspicio vestri mendum , pro vos iacio calx procul alius.

Is this where we see the grand revelation of the UCONN conspiracy to destroy Michigan? Who would be at the game specifically to make  Michigan look bad?

Fans do stupid, embarrassing things. Believe me, I know. Sometimes you just have to keep your distance from them and hope that their self-immolation fireball isn't large enough to burn you. As they say, "Not everybody gets to be smart."

who happen to like Michigan Football. They are not Michigan fans. They don't care about the university. The term 'student athlete' holds no meaning for them. They don't see any difference between the team they root for on Saturday and the one they root for on Sunday. By doing things like bad-mouthing a recruit, they demonstrate their fandom for all to see.

This is absolutely pathetic.  If anyone in the Zettel or Ross family happens to read this, please be assured that those actions are not indicative of the Michigan Family as a whole.  Hopefully one bad apple doesn't spoil the bunch, so to speak, and you can look past the ignorance of a few classless people.

EDIT: Beat out by mere seconds on the "bad apple" reference.

It's tough to imagine. What would even be the point? As if there isn't enough mis-information floating around out there. If they could be led to believe that kind of stuff is representative of how things get done here that would do everyone involved a disservice.

Read some of the posts on this blog and then ask yourself that question again. The vast majority would never consider doing something like this but it only takes one to leave a bad impression. Hopefully their parents help them see the UM experience as a whole and not judge on an isolated incident.

I doubt there are many Michigan fans who would deliberately try to drive off good recruits in order to get Rich Rodriguez fired...

I'm guessing these fans are simply pissed off that Zettel hasn't committed and that Ross was wearing OSU colors.  They're stupidly pissed off and immature, but in their drunken/stupid state, they probably think their verbal attacks will spur Zettel into committing to U of M.

This happens more than you'd think. My wife got harassed on USC weekend for wearing Cardinal and Gold, even though she was just repping her Iowa State roots with a cyclones shirt.

I get pretty lucky living in the Toledo area. There are a TON of M and OSU fans, with a descent smattering of MSU, ND, PSU and a few MAC schools mixed in (namely UT, obviously, but also central, western, Miami (NTM), etc). As such, everyone is usually really cool about  other teams colors except during the week of the game,  because you HAVE to interact with them. I never have to worry about getting crap for wearing Maize and Blue.

I can't believe that. I for one am embarrassed and apologize as a Michigan fan. Just don't judge us all by these jackass' actions. Take your time make sure Michigan is where you want to win at.

That is crazy. No amount of wobbly pops is excusable. As a Michigan fan, I apologize. That is not something I'm proud to be a part of. I'm proud of Brock walking, I'm proud of the way our team won yesterday.

I came across this fan made video on youtube a with "Demetrius Hart" search. Towards the end of the video there is some fan interaction with Dee Hart on a much different scale. Great Video btw!

This is unbelievable, honestly if I would have seen this happen in front of me there would have been a fight. How fucking ridiculous and embarrassing, just no excuse for this type of behavior at all. And especially to the kids and their families that we are recruiting. Wow, just wow.

This is really bothering me.  Is there security or university personel around.  Someone should have shut these guys up.  I am sick the more I think about it.

This is pretty fucking terrible.  I really really wish those people hadn't been wearing maize and blue.

If recruits or fathers of recruits read this, sorry.

Not much else I can say, but that this makes me really frustrated.

in the 1950's we stoped at stop lights in the country and waited and waited and waited for the green even if there was no one coming in either direction for miles. Now we run the stop lights and shoot guns (paintball or otherwise) as we drive through. In the 1950's no one cheated on taxes, now the guy running the IRS gets caught cheating says he is sorry and still keeps his job. It is a different time. Too bad even at a great school with great tradition there is decline. Great for those of you that would KICK THAT GUYS ASS!!!!
