Insurgency

Submitted by bluefrombirth on

( Imagine the first paragraph of this post being a conversation with a finely mustachioed, courtly civil war era Southern aristocrat) Imagine if you will, that your hopes and dreams for the prosperity of future generations being taken from you in one fail swoop of administrative bravado. To take that which you have nurtured, and cherished through its gestation, only to smother the infant while it slumbers in it's crib. This is what Mr. Brandon's war of  Aggression has done to this gentility..

Contrary to popular belief, the propietor of this blog was not the last person to die on Rodriguez Hill. Though he was a stalwart in our partisan fight, he was the most hardy. I for one am still only half way down  the slopes of Mt. Suribachi. Instead of infecting others with my Edgar Allen poe style melancholy. I have stayed off the board, patiently watching the enemy encampment, looking for signs that the war is over.It was not until recently that i began to question the ethics of my own fortitude. Thw hoke hire was underwhelming to me, very underwhelming. Then the pressers semed to indicate a wholesale destruction of what was building into a juggernaut of an offense. I know that some will disagree, but an offense that was ranked that high, and returning almost everyone of its starters, with a qb that has more raw talent than the next two qb's behind him the league combined. Not to mention that the guy coming off the bench is either going to be a Vince Young Clone, or an ethically intact Cam Newton, gave hope to the future. To tamper with this seemed almost blasphemous.

However, as time went by, and my insurgency has weakened, i have seen that such thoughts are not good for my fandom. So slowly I have warmed to this new staff. What the final product will be is yet to be determined, and in september, amidst the ethers of autumn we shall see if the hire was great. In my absence from these part, i have noticed an overall lack of decorum on this board. this is distressing, this board has been a beacon of light for many ships adrift in the maelstrom. It is not whining to if trading in your Ferrari for a hummer is the right choice.Sure the Hummer can haul a small yacht, but seeing a ferrari fully opened up on the track is much more impressive, even though that ferrari has crappy handling in the snow. The insurgents are now here among you, waiting to see what this is all going to be in the end. You can try to alienate us, or you could draw us out in friendly discourse to show us the error of our ways. For historical context, the War in Iraq was going rather bad with the whack-a-mole strategy, when they began to engage the factions the death tolls dropped. On the great seal of our nation, the eagle in all it's glory clutches in its talons olive branches, and arrows.A reminder that one can peace or one can have war. War has very little benfits, while peace always offers prosperity, it is time to have a return to civil discourse. Afterall this is a blog about the Leaders and the best

While coach Hoke may not have been my choice to lead our team out of the tunnel this fall, he will be the one leading our team out of the tunnel. He may not have been my choice, but he is the Michigan coach. He is my coach.

What in the fuck? Why is a civil war era southern talking about Ferrari's and the war in Iraq?

But I share your feelings about being underwhelmed by the hire.  I have however been getting very excited about the news coming out of the administration this off season.  I as well am warming to the hire and very excited about the season.  Only 5 more months!   EEEEEEEK!

For what it's worth, I'm with you. I'm warming to him, too. I realize this is really irrational: we haven't played a damn down of real football yet. But hey, he IS our coach; this IS Michigan. It's my alma mater. I want him to succeed. For me to be bitter and have some sort of "I told you so" type of spite if he fails would be petty and really stupid; one should never, ever hope Michigan isn't succesful. It's like, in a way, when your best friend breaks up with a girl you really dug (as in, she was cool, not you wanted to bang her) that a lot of your friends didn't like, but you liked, and you thought she got a raw deal. Now, he has a new chick, and everyone's giving her a pass just because she isn't the old chick. To be spiteful of the new chick is silly; your friend is your friend, and his happiness is what's important. That friend, in a way, is Michigan football. And yes, I had a scenario like that. My friend is now married to the "new chick," and they have a beautiful daughter. Hopefully in this Hoke analogy, that daughter is a national championship.

Wow, that went off in a strange direction.

In September when the season starts Coach Hoke will receive all the support any other coach has ever gotten from me.Those that are skeptical of the hire like myself im sure will support him also. That does not change the fact, that he is an unknown quantity. The Schembechler hire turned out to be great, however those that doubted him as a coach were still justified in doing so. When he turned out to be the Grant to woody Hayes's Lee, this ended the doubt in everyones mind. I am not Anti hoke, i hope Hoke turns out to be the offspring of Yost and Crisler, and that he wins 15 consecutive national titles. I also hold the right to question his ability until i see an on the feild product that is better than the last two guys.

loved the RR hire.  Still think he was not given enough time.  But God I hate this phrase it is what it is.  We now have Hoke.  I was a Michigan fan when Bo was hired and I'm still here.  I've neversaid Go Coach whoever, just Go Blue

"that your hopes and dreams for the prosperity of future generations being taken from you in one fail swoop"

how exactly has hoke ruined the program before he has coached a game?

I'm pretty sure it was a play on words. And I also think you misread what he was posting in that portion of the OP. The "hopes and dreams" were of either a.) RR turning the corner and making us into a machine (I know, I know...dreams), and/or b.) after he was fired, us bringing in someone with a dynamite resume, who seemed like the "perfect" fit (Harbaugh). I don't think it was the hiring of Hoke that dashed the hopes and dreams, but of it being the anti- a. or b.

Also, if you'd like to be further amazed, check out the intro to this model's website. She happens to be the niece of Michigan U.S. Rep Fred Upton. It's definitely worth your time.

God I hope Hoke is the answer because I really don't want to read further speculation about a guy whose defense as the absolute shittest in the HISTORY of the program. Had the defense even been average and the special teams not an abomination, perhaps we might have seen what might have been.

I had high hopes for RR, but must say that his undoing was that defense.  So many what ifs.  What if he had let go of the obsession with the 3-3-5?  How good could the team have been if he had let SS just freaking coach and stayed out of the way?

But what's done is done and I don't disagree with the decision to fire RR.  For all the progress that was made last season, the bowl game was condemning.

I openly told friends I would jump off a bridge if Hoke was hired.  When he was, the river was frozen and I had to wait.  As I continue to wait, 99% of my fears about Hoke are out the window.  He seems to really have it together and I haven't heard about a single player or recruit say anything bad about him.  He has the attention of more 5 star kids than I ever remember RR having, and none of them arer 4'11", 73 lbs, so that's a plus as well.

I really hated the end of the Lloyd era when even games the team won were too often boring and frustrating.  I'm greedy enough to want a dazzling but disciplined offense with a bone-crushing defense.  I may never see that, but I'm feeling like Hoke may have more of those pieces in place than I've seen before.  It's hard to stay pissed about this hire.

There was a time and place for this topic/point of view.  It is well past.  Brady Hoke and company have the reigns now.  Soldier on.  My dad  played with Dave Strack and when Canham fired him for Johnny Orr he cashed-in his Michigan credentials, which I never understood.  Are you a fan of the school, or are you a fan of certain individual coaches?  I'm a MICHIGAN FAN.  Whoever the f_ck is coaching our guys.  WTF???

Don't we still have hockey?

<br>This was an amazing display of a lack of capitalization, spelling, spacing and punctuation. I think it helped your point.

Cowhoke™ is not a Hummer but more of a Aztek (pun intended).  A homely-looking member (inbreed cousin?) of the extended family with a losing record and a dubious future.

And that warming feeling that some of you express probably has more to do with winter receding (it is April after all) than any logical assessment of the team's performance.  The chill will return in October if not September.

Let's sit and watch what happens.  No use "what if"'ing or "woulda" "coulda" "shoulda" anymore.  This is our reality and we need to just go with it.

But, I do have one final statement about RR's offense.  Yes, DRob is amazing and the offense did some amazing things this year.  I give props to RR for bringing DRob here, but look at how this offense did against top tier teams.  When you're a "one man" offense the good teams can throw everything at that guy and slow you down and even stop you altogether.   That happened last year, and that's fine, give respect to those teams for figuring it out, but where was our adjustment...there wasn't.  Good coaches can have a great plan, but what separates them is when their plan is failing.  How do you adjust?  I just didn't see it except on the other side of the field from the opposing defensive coaches.  There was not much else except Denard.  A few good WR performances, but they benefitted from all the attention on Denard.  There has to be more than that.  One guy can't do it.  Spread the wealth, draw attention elsewhere.  Take the bullseye of our shoelace.   I didn't see that during the year.  We may have had a good quarter or two, but adjustments were made by the good teams and shut us down so we couldn't keep up with our sieve of a D.  I have a feeling Denard is going to be way more effective this year.  The stats may not show it and It may take a few games to gel into the new system, but I think it's going to be fun.
