Insulting Fandom
Does it insult you when someone (in your office, circle of associates, or even close friends) know about your intense love for all things Umich, claim they are fans as well, but just don't know who our incoming stud RB's are? Or "hey, i heard we JUST landed a really good DB for next year".
When you approach so called "fan" to rap a bit around the water cooler about the fresh coat of paint on the Big House, they look at you like a deer in the headlights?
Forgive grammar errors, its early and I'm tired.
who is a big Michigan fan. He doesn't check out blogs though. He kind of has a life I guess. He makes fun of me, and hates when I talk about players he never heard of during games. But then at parties when he gets into conversations about Michigan football/basketball, he always pulls me in the conversation to make him seem more knowledgable.
He respects my knowledge, but I'm jealous of his ignorance. You know, it can be blissful at times.
It doesn't bother me too much. What does bother me is when they wear red or green. I tell them to burn their fan card.
I wear red all the time. Gotta support the Wings.
Red with an appropriate logo and/or team name is fine. :)
Red Shirt Friday? As support of the troops and such? Acceptable?
Certainly. Personally, I would choose other ways to show support for the troops.
I can wear any damn color I please. Unless it's game day. Then, yeah, I'd have to burn my own fan card.
I would venture to guess that with all the sports and activities UM participates in, it is always game day.
Usually, I don't mind the Michigan fans who don't follow that closely. However, it got to me during the RichRod era. My uncle used to go on and on about how RichRod wasn't a good guy because he trashed his office on his way out of West Virginia (or whatever other ridiculous stuff was alleged) and because he committed so many horrible crimes during stretch-gate. Any attempt to correct him, or even chime in with a more nuanced perspective, was lost on him.
Ignorant fans are by far the worst when controversy strikes. The allegations even included felonies; at least two people I encountered regularly offered the opinion that he should be rotting in prison. I don't mind people who don't know anything and admit their ignorance one bit. It's the mind-blowing stupidity of people who don't have a clue and act otherwise.
lots of opinions, insight and helpful comments for that many folks to downvote the OP.
but it was a good question that resulted in lots of discussion. Not so bad for non-front page material.
Even Shakespeare was no Shakespeare.
BOOM. Edward de Vere'd.
...but hopefully you're not busted on by the members of the MGoCommunity for not being a grad. You and I are in the same boat...and I feel pretty secure here. And like you, I think I know the team pretty well. Anyone else have a problem with it...fuck 'em.
I think recruiting is a specialized offshoot of fandom, for a subset of nutcases like us who can't get enough. I know a ton of diehard loyal fans who don't follow recruiting at all, and that's fine. I think it's more unusual to keep track of recruiting than otherwise.
