Didn't see this posted anywhere, but this is gonna be a little confusing. So there's the Sun Bowl in El Paso, and no there is the VALLEY OF THE Sun Bowl. It is still keeps it's B1G-Big 12 tie in.
Another change is the Champs Sports Bowl (ACC vs SEC) becomes the Russell Athletic Bowl.

Sun Devil stadium, although
Sun Devil stadium, although it is home to a terrible college team, is really one of the most beautiful and scenic stadiums. Glad it's bowl's name is now sans annoying sponser. FYI - the Phoenix metro area is in what's called the Valley of the Sun, so the name makes more sense than many of you realize.

I understand the name is a local nickname and all that, but given that there is a long history behind the name "Sun Bowl" in El Paso, I don't think it was a great choice when it comes to the all-important branding aspect. People might confuse the two.

Misconception - it was never actually called that. When it was the Florida Citrus Bowl, that was its corporate name - it was sponsored by the Florida Citrus growers association, or some such. When the citrus people stopped sponsoring it, and Capital One took over, the entire bowl name changed, just as it had before (it was originally the Tangerine Bowl).

Really, the ones that should be keeping up with the name changes of non-BCS bowls are Sparty and ND fans. Being that they end their seasons by playing in one each year.

Nice post, but it seems ND is using what prestige it may have left to garner a permanent home in the Orange Bowl quote “ it would give the Fighting Irish an automatic landing spot in seasons in which they are good enough to play in a game but do not make the playoffs.”
