Way back when there were only 10 months in the ancient Roman calendar, it made sense (Oct 8, Novem 9, Decem 10). Then they added Janurary and February

Renamed, not added*. According to Wikipedia anyways, January and February were added around 713 BC.
Quintilis was renamed as Iulius (July) in honour of Julius Caesar in 44 BC by Mark Antony. The calendar reforms were completed during the reign of his successor Augustus, when the Senate renamed Sextilis as Augustus (August) in 8 BC.
