Information: 2013 Punter Recruit Rankings and Status
It is a slow Sunday so I looked up at Scout on their 2013 punter rankings. A few of them are still available if we do go to 28 total. I am in particular interested in knowing if we can get that Rutgers commit if we do offer one punter.

Hagerup was suspended, not kicked off the team. He'll be back next year. We also have a walk-on freshman redshirting this year (Kenny Allen) who had several BCS offers.

I saw Kenny Allen kick in high school and the kid can really boom the ball. He is a really big kid (compared to what you see in most punters/kickers). I believe he is listed at 6'3" and 205 which sounds about right.

Hoke hasn't spoken about it, so we don't really know if any decision has been made for next year. Either way, Hagerup is clearly no guarantee for any given week, so I don't know if it's a bad idea to look for a backup plan at punter one year early.

He's been suspended more times than I can remember

he was suspended once under RR, and twice under hoke.. Hoke seems to be 3 strikes and out guy... so who knows
im sure he is only considering the times he has been in trouble under his watch

It would be fun to welcome Rutgers to the Big10 by Purduing their punter.

Does that say the Australian punter is 6'7?

Maybe he can play tight end too

He'd be UM's Reggie Roby - that guy was a beast as well.

Isn't Wile a punter? I think so. I think we are ok.

I guess it's safe to assume he'd be a master of the rubgy style kick.

I'm inclined to go after him if Michigan needs a back-up for Wile. The Wolverines might need his giant knife at some point.

Isn't this his third suspension? I also think he's done.
December 16th, 2012 at 12:42 PM ^
As much as I would love an Aussie punter who can do Brad Wing things, I'm not sure we'll need a punter with Allen. I could see us going after another as a walk-on though.

Why post this when we can wile out. Get it guys? Wile??? Hold your applause I'll be here all night.

This is Hagerup's 3rd suspension. He has to be walking on the thinnest of ice right now.

I'm not sure we would hear about a punter who is in his redshirt year. Regardless of how good/bad he would be doing. We hear very little even about guys like Jehu Chesson and Amara Darboh and they are WRs.

#1 - Hagerup hasn't been kicked off the team (even though I'm not sure if he'll return - I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't)
#2 - We have Matt Wile who's a junior next year...so we have a D1 punter
#3 - We have Kenny Allen who was a preferred walk-on
JT Floyd is the biggest loss, but it's one game...we can prepare another player to step in for one game. We've got plenty of time to do so. May help that player in the long run.

In Hoke's presser today, he said Norfleet was switching to punter. So we're all good.

For 5 stars he might have to be able to kick from his own endzone and have it downed inside the opposite 5 yard line on 9 out of 10 attempts....which would probably require a hang time of 12 seconds. Even then I'm guessing only 2 of the 4 services give him 5 stars. He would probably have to be able to force a fumble from the returner on the 1 out of 10 times the punt is returned, recover the fumble himself, and break 5 tackles en route to the endzone.
Basically he would have to dominate the game from the punter position, to the point where opposing teams would rather give up a 1st down then have him punt!
