Info on Kelvin Grady on Defense

Submitted by jbibiza on

Does anyone have any input on Kelvin Grady as a defensive player in high school?  I can't find any football recruiting info so perhaps someone might remember seeing him play DB  in Grand Rapids.  Grasping at straws?   Why not?

Just stop with the looking towards the next season when this season has not even started.  If the best thing that we have to look forward to is 2011, we are in a seriously shitty place as a program.  In 2008, we were "looking forward to 2009, because Tate would be here, and RR would have a second year to impliment his system."  Last year, we were looking towards this year because now our O-line would be older and our QBs wouldn't be true freshmen.

As recent events have shown, a hell of a lot can change in the course of a week, let alone a year and a half.

**This is not an anti-RR post.

Ok, Go Blue rah rah and all, but...

If you think we're going to hang 45 and win going away on anyone right now, then [insert lack of being objective cliche here].

If there's ever a time to temper expectations, try to be calm, and let things play out, it's now.

IMO this is the most obvious position switch.  Grady definitely has the athleticism to play corner.  Irrational or not, this thought momentarily makes me feel better.

From a MHSAA football forum, he's listed as the #4 player in the "Greater Grand Rapids area" in 2006 (two behind Keith Nichol) and as a "RB/WR/DB."  He's mostly discussed as a RB, but he's (apparently) a "lockdown defender when the moment calls."

(Note: a small video on the right side autoplays, focused on tennis, when you click on the above link)

For some more sad faces, look at the #1 player - good 'ol Ro Jo, who's taken his talents to LA (and was listed as first team DB; Grady was a first team RB).

Based on this little information, grab some old film, and start brushing up on your backpedal, Mr Grady.

I never remember him playing any Defense at least when he was starting to gain hype.  He was the workhorse for EGR just like his brother.  If he did play, it was hardly anything at all.

Actually, Kelvin Grady played nearly every down for EGR on defense.  He played very well, and obviously has more speed than his brother had.

He should get a look at CB, I bet he'd be better than anyone else that we can roll out there.

Contrary to what you all think, K Grady to defense is actually a very real possibility. Tay Odoms has been burning everybody in practice on the deep ball since camp opened up. This was when Woolfolk was in the lineup. Just for kicks, the coaches let Grady cover Odoms for a few plays, and he shut him down. He was the only guy who could hang with him.

The main problem in the secondary is speed. It's been even more apparent than usual this fall apparently as our offense has shown great improvement throwing the deep ball. A couple days in a row now our defense has been absolutely dominated by the vertical pass simply because they can't keep up. K Grady isn't going to see much time on the field on offense and represents the most likely position change. Cullen Christian is simply too raw at this point. He has legitimate D-1 speed but his technique is not nearly good enough yet. Don't be at all surprised if you hear in a few days about a potential switch for Grady.

I watched EGR a lot the last 10 years and I don't remember him playing much D. Unlike other high schools EGR has a million players. I dont think he needed to go both ways.

I think KG would be the most likely candidate to switch to D just due to the depth at the two positions he would play at (slot/RB), especially if he can backpeddle well and pick up on the schemes...
