Indiana starting RG Dan Feeney Injured, Out for Season

Submitted by Space Coyote on

This came out last week but I don't recall it being posted. Seeing as Michigan plays them, it's relevant. SO RG Dan Feeney was injured. He was projected to start for Indiana. Injuries don't just happen to Michigan.

Indiana wasn't going to have a great O-line this year, but this kid may have been one of their best offensive linemen. May hurt their ability to stay balanced on offense a bit. Honorable mention all B1G last year. Good news for Feeney is his redshirt year is still available so he won't lose any eligibility.

If so, that means he was all Big10 honorable mention as a true freshman offensive lineman?  That's pretty impressive.  I know it's the wrong Indiana school, but why didn't we snake oil him?

And FWIW, O-line accolades are about as random as it gets. Still, you are correct in that it is impressive regardless. He was likely Indiana's best OL as a true freshman, so regardless of "it's Indiana", it's still quite impressive.

True, we had a nice haul that year, but if I remember correctly, we were planning on taking 5 OL and had one decommit rather late, right?  So, there was room!  (I'm not really being serious, obviously, but wouldn't it have been nice to have a CFB-ready freshman guard last year who's redshirt you wouldn't mind burning since there were 4 other higher-profile OL in his class?)

I can only speak for myself, but when I complain about season ending injuries, what I'm really only doing is complaining about season ending injuries in relation to Ohio State. I expect to beat IU almost no matter the injuries we have. But every injury in relation to Ohio makes the most important and difficult game all more difficult.

If I am not mistaken, Jake Reed - the possible replacement - is a converted TE, and that conversion happened sometime between spring practice and fall camp. I am assuming Seth Litrell (Indiana OC) thinks that Reed's understanding of the offense is sufficient.

Still, that sucks for Feeney, and I am sure the Hoosiers will feel that loss of protection on the line (935 snaps, 0 sacks allowed, 54 knockdowns - not bad at all). Best of luck in his recovery.

Bad news for the young man.  Hopefully he can recovery and still have a prosperous career. Wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery.

I'm thinking Indiana could, "could", be a tougher game than people are expecting.

It's possible we could be looking ahead to MSU and not be up for this game and they are a pass happy team that alot of people say can put up points.

I forgot they were on the schedule.

I agree. They'll challenge our secondary and our ability to tackle in space. I wouldn't be surprised at all if IU led the league in passing yards.

That said, it's nice that we'll play them right after playing another passing spread team in Penn State the week before, so it shouldn't be a huge week to week adjust for the D.

I think Indiana this year was primed to look similar to Michigan 2010: Great offense, horrific defense. IIRC they were one of, if not the top pass offense in the Big Ten last year and they were posied to have another great year this year (coupled with the same mind-bendingly awful defense IU is known for).

They're going to win and lose a lot of 42-35 games
