perfectly compare from one game to another, you can't do it at all. what a team does against Michigan has absolutely no bearing on what they do against other teams and vice versa. the transitive property does not apply to sports.

Yeah, but, if Indiana were a decent team they wouldn't be getting schlacked 44-0 in the 3rd quarter by a 1-3 team. I was hoping they were a decent team.

If it didn't apply at all, coaches wouldn't use game film to prepare for opponents.

have to do with what i said? indiana played what was probably their best game against Michigan. does that mean they'll play that well every week? they got killed by uva today, does that mean they'll play that badly every week? you can't use the transitive property to determine who's better than who

Honestly, I was really suprised when i saw they got beat so badly... I thought they played a great game against OSU and were most likely going to make a bowl game this year. Who knows now.

The transitive property applies in the polls. People notice the fact that Michigan barely beat Indiana at home and then Indiana gets stomped. But regardless, it's not like the polls matter at this point.

UVa has a tendency to look horrible in September, then go undefeated in October. They did the same thing last season, and nearly the same the year before. They weren't supposed to be as bad as they've played this September.

As others have pointed out, UVA is the epitome of a Jekyll and Hyde football team. They make State look consistent.
The occasional shockingly big wins are how Groh keeps his job.

At least they didn't get shut out? I guess.
It just always sucks to see a team who we played and barely beat get all hell kicked out of them by a pretty bad team.

Yeah I would take Indiana's games with a grain of salt. MGoObes has a point in that football teams can't be measured from week-to-week in terms of playing ability. There isn't a better example of this than the team we play tonight who has won very close games against weak teams and played hard against strong teams.

Ark State, on the other hand, is a bottom FCS team,
but got no closer than an onside kick to beating Iowa.
(Ark State closed it to a one-possession, three point game
with just under two minutes to go, but their onside kick attempt failed.)

Still, I feel like the good guys have nothing to lose tonight, so they'll let it all hang out, and ((maize and blue goggles on)) I expect an extremely competitive game.
