Looks like Indiana hired a coach who at least has the potential to be successful. Still I would be shocked if they ever made any noise in the BigTen.
Indiana Football Article on Grantland
Well they did pick up Kiel. And Wilson had a lot of success at Oklahoma.
THEY WILL DEF. MAKE NOISE
The real Big Red in the Big 10
Yay, 9,000 word posts.
But I suspect that Wilson will leave for greener pastures if he does achieve what TIller did. IU cares little about football and Wilson with his experience at OU will have to be aching to get back at that level.
IU football reminds me of a better funded EMU. It exists simply for reasons of pride and the need for a d-1 program to keep IU in the Big Ten.
If he gets IU to 8-9 wins for a couple of years, he's GONE. Someone will throw double or triple his salary at him at a place that actually cares about football.
IU is a basketball school, that's 100X more important to them. They don't have football traditions. Think of Mack Brown at UNC -- he got them to 10 win seasons, Texas came calling, he split. Ditto Spurrier at Dook. Saban at Sparty. Mason at Kansas. These primarily basketball schools almost never, ever reach top football status -- their coaches get plucked away.
Frankly, its why Bill Freider hated it at UM -- no matter how great his hoops team was, he was always a distant second fiddle to Bo and football. Will be the same with IU, reversing the sports.
So if he gets IU football on the map for a couple of seasons, he'll long to go to a big-name school where football is king. And the money will be way better.
Sorry IU, you're just a football stepping stone.
Does every Grantland story need to be reposted on this board? Or is it safe to assume we can stumble our way over there if we feel like it?
someone post an article about the new coach at a school in Michigan's conference who also just happened to snag a 5 star recruit Michigan was going after.
I appreciate it. Mostly because I don't really have the time during the week to browse 40 websites for football news. I like it that people bring interesting news to me via a convenient iPhone app. If you don't want to read it, don't. I get far more pissed about all the damn opinion threads we've had lately (ex: what did GERG do all day?).
Especially when it's Big Ten Football. Go back to your cave.
