I'd love to see Chuck back in Ann Arbor coaching for the Wolverines someday. I'm not sure he's finished with the NFL yet, but of all the former players who could come back to join Harbaugh at Michigan, he'd be top of my list.

With the way salaries have exploded the prior decade I am curious how many star players will ever get into coaching.  It is one thing if you are Mike Hart and had 3 years in the league at a lower salary but these guys who have been around for 10ish years and at the top of the profession - I wonder how many will bother starting over for $200K a year to be a position coach.  You'd have to truly love the sport and be extremeley passionate about it.  It was different in Harbaugh's time, I wonder what his max annual salary was ... and coaching was all he knew growing up so was in his blood.

It would be an interesting case study to see how many "star ex NFL players" ever got into coaching withing the past 10 years.  I thought a guy like Chris Spielman who played in the 90s (when salaries were very good but nothing like it is now) was a natural for a coach but he never did it.

You make a great point about salary, that probably would deter many players. There's probably more than salary when stars go back to be coaches. I think it would be about the love for the game in woodson's case. Plus, he might want to be a head coach someday, why not start off at Michigan. Plus, who else could pull off the ncaa national championship (player), heisman, Super Bowl champ (player), Ncaa national championship (coach). Nobody.

I would just like to say that I love the name of that blog. Did it just come into existence recently, or did another blog change its name?

Man as a HS kid doing this that must've been awesome!. Wearing a jersey that you got from the equipment manager, and the posing next to a famous picture of CW with the rose in his mouth with said jersey. Man that has to be really compelling. I bet he's loving this trip!

You should be much more confident about getting Weber than Marshall.

Michigan's only competition for Weber is OSU, and our new RB coach—Wheatley—was the first to extend an offer to Weber, when Tyrone was at Syracuse. Given Weber's long-standing desire to play for Michigan, it would not be a huge upset if Mike ended up back here.

By contrast, Michigan has to compete with USC, UCLA, Notre Dame, Oregon, Florida State, and LSU for Marshall.

Right, a very uphill battle indeed. I'm not sure how hard it was to convince a HS kid to extend his vacation by 2 days, either. The pedigree of some of our recruiters seems to make this interesting, at least. Realistically I'm sure this is like the rest of his trips and he jsut has to sit down and think of who he was most comfortable with. As a fan though the thought of having Marshall and Peppers is very exciting.

I'm as big of a pessimist as anybody here, and I think we'll end up with Weber. I'd be very pleasantly shocked if we got Marshall—that would be an insane recruiting coup for Harbaugh & Co., considering how little time they've got to recruit as a staff.

And is a future HoFer as well.  Shaun Alexander on the other hand had a few good seasons because he ran behind another former M-product, Steve Hutchinson, then flamed out when Hutch left.  There's that whole Heisman thing too.

I think there's at least another 5-10 years of hyping up Woodson unless he comes back here to coach.  And that's a distinct possibility if he wants a career in coaching.

Yes i was thinking about this too.  We are lucky Brady and Woodson have lasted so long in the NFL, especially Woodson. QBs can play into their mid 30s+ but most field players go downhill fast even in their early 30s.   We need another generation of high level NFL success stories.

I do lilke how we have a "thing" with #1 and #2 jerseys though.  It's a decent carrot for those 2 positions.

Is Iman Marshall's visit actually till Wednesday? The only places I see that mentioned are on 2 blogs that I'm not sure of the quality of information. Haven't seen anyone report that on twitter.

This kid will be extremely tough to pry away from the West Coast, but him extending his visit is a good starting point. Just getting him on campus and getting top recruits to seriously consider Michigan again does nothing but good things for the program's image.

A secondary with Marshall and Peppers locking down both sides of the field, not to mention with guys like J. Lewis, would be a nightmare for any WR to go up against.

If we can snag him, the thought of him and Jabrill together in the same defensive backfield might prompt more Urban "heart problems."  Not optimistic but the fact that he's even giving us a look this late in the game bodes well for the future.

Looks like someone forced Iman to wear our jersey and stand there...he didn't "look" like he was standing in a former Heisman's jersey...he looked like he was wondering why someone gave him a Blake Countess jersey...no offense, he didn't look thrilled. Going to be an upset if he comes...
