Evans and Higdon are 1A and 1B, in no particular order.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:05 PM ^
Love them both but Higgy is better.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:09 PM ^
Any word on his health?
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:17 PM ^
BTN sideline reporter say he was cleared in the locker room but held out for the day as a precaution and because he wasn't needed. Not sure how accurate it is, because that seems pretty detailed and not something likely to come from Harbaugh, but BTN aired it.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:49 PM ^
some gamesmanship there with the staff saying he checked out fine, gotta have him for next week no doubt

Both are explosive. Higgy runs with more power and is more durable. Of course Chris will get more mass and size thougout his career but Higgy will always have the edge in power.
Together I would take them over Samuel and Weber.
October 22nd, 2016 at 10:14 PM ^
Uuuuuuuuuuuuuh...
I know we're excited about finally having good runningbacks for the first time in nearly a decade but can we pump the breaks a little? Weber and and Samuel are playing at an elite level.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:49 PM ^
Smith might be the 4th best back on this team.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:40 PM ^
However, he is steady, plays with an edge, sets an aggressive tone and is a solid blitzer picker-uper.
Smith is very good and is sadly underappreciated by Michigan fans who are unable to see the big picture.
October 22nd, 2016 at 8:15 PM ^
smith should be the #1 back, with his toughness and power, good pass protection. It's him wear down the defense so other RBs can excel later. He's always the number 1. He doesn't process sideline to sideline speed, so it seems less effective in red zone.
October 22nd, 2016 at 9:17 PM ^
Smith had some damn nice runs today though in the first half that only he can get. Won't matter though. I'm watching this suckeye d-line right now against Penn State and if Michigan doesn't run all over their candy asses, hell must've froze over. That means the Vikings have won the Super Bowl. I know that hasn't happened.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:50 PM ^
We really need Morris to do more than lead block on pitch sweeps.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:57 PM ^
I am hoping that's being used to set up something interesting for the future.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:58 PM ^
That's about all any qb can do on pitch sweeps. He's not Bo Jackson!
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:52 PM ^
I like it. Beat State!

Lot of good throws, took great care of the football. Higdon is a stud. Deveon ran well, Ty ran well, Evans ran well and walked off field on his own power after vicious targeting hit. 7 & 0.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:54 PM ^
Really happy Speight had a very solid game right before we go play Sparty. Hope Evans is healthy next week.

but it looked like Evans got his bell rung pretty good and may have been out for a sec. I'd be surprised if he's available next week with the concussion protocols.
We'll see...

We'll know more throughout the week. If he can't go, Higdon better be a huge part of the game plan.

Higdon should be a huge part of the gameplan regardless. He looks great.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:02 PM ^
After the Rutgers. . . "game" I said to myself, "Harbaugh is going to spend the next two weeks fixing this."
You pretty much have to try to be a bad QB under the wing of the QB Whisperer.
October 22nd, 2016 at 6:54 PM ^
coasted with 10 in the second. They did fine. Need to tweak some things but we have the coaches to do it.

Peppers seemed a little flat this game...It felt like coaching staff and peppers migh be trying a little too hard to give him carries.

I'll bet they ran Sparty bait plays. They didn't need Peppers to play offense, and damn well knew it.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:25 PM ^
Eh, I don't think so. Don't get me wrong Harbaugh knows what the hell he's doing but Pepper's offensive play seemed a little forced today; and I don't think they were Sparty bait plays. Those same plays have been run all season, any competent coaching staff would watch this years film and see that.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:27 PM ^
I think they're trying to get him the Heisman.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:47 PM ^
...Of course, and I respect that but like I said it was forced, and if we didn't score on that drive I think you'd say the same. This was Illinois so it doesn't matter either way. I'm content with the way the team played.
October 22nd, 2016 at 8:43 PM ^
Not gonna speak for Anthony, but for me, they're both true. I mean, yes, it was totally forced. It was forced because Harbaugh is trying hard to get him in the Heisman conversation. If Peppers had kept that foot in bounds on that would-be-TD catch it might have worked. Even if it had, it still would have been forced.
October 22nd, 2016 at 9:30 PM ^
if the plays were more about getting Jabrill reps. It seemed like he handed the ball off quite a bit against RU and today he seemed to keep a lot. Either way, I agree it seemed forced but the film on those plays should be helpful for Jabrill.
October 23rd, 2016 at 1:08 AM ^
+1 if I could
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:33 PM ^
They didn't do anything new with Peppers, and Illinois did their homework.
Peppers I think had a down day overall but I don't think that's a contradiction. He pulled when he probably should've handed off but it didn't matter. My point is that if Harbaugh felt an urgent need to add to Peppers' highlight reel he could've rolled out new stuff that sprung him for 200 yards and 3 TDs. He obviously kept that stuff in the garage. . . for Sparty. Today's stuff was just for Sparty's A/V interns to feast on.
October 22nd, 2016 at 8:08 PM ^
My thoughts exactly. Plain vanilla stuff, but Peppers needs to hand the ball off sometimes. At least 2 of those would have been big gains if he didn't pull it.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:41 PM ^
UNFUCKING believable that Michigan fans are actually complaining about Peppers getting too many touches.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:54 PM ^
Relax little buddy, nobody's complaining. I'd love to have Jabrill playing offense every play. I'm saying get him in the open field, maybe run some jet sweeps, screens, anything. If anything I think we could've used him more throughout the game without giving up plays to future oppenents, but that wasn't needed this week.
October 22nd, 2016 at 8:19 PM ^
i was so scared he got injured. He force te play sometimes should have hand off the ball. I like his decoy roll more than keep the ball himself. it's shame that he didn't get the passing TD.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:04 PM ^
I think the whole team was a little flat other than the first 1 1/2 quarters. I think they wanted to get this one over asap and move on to MSU.

I agree with the trying too hard for stats assessment. Without the benefit of a rewatch I think he should have handed off those zone reads.

Yeah. I'd like to be using him a bit more than we had up until today, but it did sort of fall flat in this game. Maybe save him for those situations where we know he can be deadly and/or mix it up with some different looks for him to run. He is the focus of the D every time he steps on the field and they will be familiar with everything we have run with him in previous games.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:05 PM ^
He should have handed off on at least two of those reads.

putting what he wanted on tape, while saving the variants for the big game.
Peppers needs some reps to work out the kinks. Also, they can learn from this game to see how to better use Peppers in the future.
October 22nd, 2016 at 7:22 PM ^
I think he try's to make the highlight reel play a little too much from time to time, which with his athletic ability, who can blame him??? But that run inside the 5 where he tried to hurdle, I think if he bounced it outside he had a good shot at winning a race to the pylon and adding a TD to his resumé.
